Moku is a trendy place to go with tasty cocktails and some good food some just mediocre.
They were great at increasing our Rez from 6-9 that morning. However it went downhill from there. The service was at a snail’s pace. I couldn’t figure out why. Even for a big table it took forever for the server to get our orders, once he was gone it would be for 15 minutes at a time. Rez was for 11:15, we got out of there after 2:00 pm. We never ever want to penalize a server, but if it weren’t for my daughter reminding me that servers depend on tips, I was going to reduce it from 18 to 15%. He was very very nice and I am sure a good person, but it was very unacceptable.
And the food—desserts always awesome, but the bulgogi tacos—over seasoned and very salty.
To add insult to injury, the napkins they use are dish towels —I get it—very fashionable and trendy, but they have to be washed first or you will be covered in lint if you are wearing anything dark—as I was wearing all black. Town restaurant has the same problem. I want to add that the manager did apologize after I questioned whether we had to pay the 18% for a party greater than 6. I really dislike complaining about servers, their jobs are hard to do well, and this guys was really nice, but someone should’ve helped him.
Wash your brand new napkins before giving them to customers!
Food was overpriced & overall the place overated. I've been there many times. The first time was great being that it was a new experience. Second, Third, Fourth, was just ok. Menu never really changes. Food not that special or different. Minimal choices. Very pricey.
Pie was delicious.
It’s extremely loud inside, which made it very difficult to have a conversation.
Far too long for our food to arrive. Drinks were empty for quite awhile before anyone asked if we wanted more. Music was so loud, everyone in our party, and every other party, had to yell to be heard, which made the noise level unbearable. The food was quite good, but the rest of the operation made this a much less enjoyable experience than it could have been.
Delicious. The waiter. The food. The drinks. All well worth it. I would totally revisit this place over and over again.
Despite the steep cocktail prices, the libations are delicious. Recommend the No Ka Oi and for food the roasted veggies!
I usually love Moku’s, but this lunch was just “meh” for me. Besides the excellent service from John, the pizza and poke tacos were not at their best. Both came out on the “skimpy” side and the pizza was especially weak (not great on the cheese or fillings and too spicy for my taste). I also made a birthday lunch res, and while everyone else celebrating there got a candle and pie, my bday guest got nada. I’m not sure if other guest’s dessert was comped, and I definitely don’t mind buying my guest dessert, but missing the acknowledgment was, well... a missed opportunity to showcase your hospitality. Lastly, there were a LOT of empty tables, but we were seated right next to the door where servers congregated and talked loudly in our ears. Not your best performance Moku’s!
Great food - great space. Cocktails were unique - fries amazing! Pot stickers, wings & green beans all excellent. Ahi tuna was amazing - a must get!
We've been here at least 10 times in the last year and it never fails to impress. The food is amazing. We had dinner with relatives from Kauai and they loved it. I had the Prime Rib, not a huge prime rib fan but this was off the charts. Amazing! My son said the Fish & Chips were A+. Pizza's are really good here. Makawao Ave. cocktail is a must. Love Moku!
Great restaurant & will return again. Loved the food & music!
Too noisy on the inside of the restaurant; would recommend outside seating only!
I really went for the live music by Jeff Rasmussen, but was smitten by the overall feeling of the place. I enjoyed the music, the attentiveness of the staff, the welcoming feeling I felt as I walked to the door and of course the ono food. I'm a people watcher and a self proclaimed critic of food establishments being in the field over 20 years and I must say your employees all appeared to enjoy being there which means the customer can't help but enjoy themselves. GOOD JOB MOKU!! I will definitely be back...of course on a Wednesday night 😉 lol! Blessings
Enjoyable client dinner. Food was great. The Schezuan green beans with Macadamia nuts, and the lobster deviled eggs were especially good from the pupu menu. Entrees and desserts all received high praise.
Great food, service was excellent. Love the choices on the menu and the PIES are to die for.
The only complaint I would have is the noise level because of the live music. It was hard to have a conversation. Perhaps piped in music would be better for the future and at a medium level to allow for conversations. Otherwise awesome place. have been there many times.
We went to Moku two nights in a row because their bulgogi tacos were too good to only have them once. Their cocktail list is great and they have awesome craft beer & sommelier-chosen wine list. Definitely a staple spot.
The food was only average except for the mango pie which was fabulous. It did not live up to the reputation and was rather expensive. I have been 3 times and thought I was choosing the wrong entrees but none were impressive.
First time in Hawaii and loved this place. Would highly recommend if looking for a local restaurant with great options. Definitely a place for foodies...
Been wanting to try out Moku since they opened. Since we were in the are we decided to check it out. Everyone seemed nice that tended to us. But to be honest...The Menu was all right nothing special. They have the same food like all the other eclectic restaurants on the island so nothing stood out. The food was OK. But it could be Good place to meet friends and have a quick tapas. We had pizza and street tacos. Bulgogi tacos were very salty and tasted more like buffalo sauce than bulgogi. Which were comp since we brought it to their attention. The only thing good about our experience was our waiter who was very attentive and the live music. It’s a Nice restaurant very casual, but please get rid of your napkins. I’d rather have paper napkins than a dish towel that leaves lint all over your clothes and face. If we are ever in the area again, will give it a try again.
Fun atmosphere. Great food.
I've been to Moku Kitchen several times and the food/service are very consistent. I like the vibe of the restaurant and especially like the bar area (it's a great happy hour!). Drinks are good as are both small and large plates. A good value!
Went for happy hour. Had to have bill adjusted because we were charged full price because our server placed our pizza order after happy hour was finished when actually we ordered everything before happy hour ended. Our server asked if we wanted our pizza to brought our after our small plates and we thought it was a good idea. However, he neglected to tell us that he had to close out our small plate order and then had ordered our pizza after happy hour ended, hence the full price charge. Anyway, restaurant was noisy and a little warm in the restaurant.
Easy for taking my babies. Always kind staff with great willingness to assist with anything we need. We have come here many times and love bringing people. The noise level is a little high (my friend with hearing loss struggles to hear over the music), but the food and drinks are worth the struggle.
We had lunch here on a Saturday. The restaurant was quite loud, it was difficult to carry on a conversation. Food was excellent. We shared plates of green beens, pot stickers, fish tacos and
kale salad. All were delicious. Our waitress was great and checked on us multiple times. Overall, a great place.
Great venue, food and service- really enjoyed and will continue to be regulars.
We have been dining at Moku Kitchen since a week or two after they opened. Always one of our favorites. This time, pineapple-habanero salsa on both pork pot-stickers and duck tacos (two of our long-time favorites) was so overwhelming that no other flavors came through, just HOT. Caesar salad was excellent. Portuguese tako stew was delicious, but not a stew, more like a thin broth soup with a few pieces of tako, not anywhere near as filling as "stew" would suggest. Service was not as good as usual. Live music is almost always very good, no exception this time.
First time there - great vibe - cool place. Waitstaff and hostess were great had some helpful recommendations - Bulgogi Tacos and truffle fries were my faves. Definitely will be added to my list of go to places on Oahu!!!
We were fortunate enough to get there during happy hour and there were some great specials going on. The food was all wonderful we tried 3 different small plates and then two entrees. Everything was very good and we had plenty to take home for leftovers.
My 3rd visit here and the food and service continue to rate high! As a "senior" I would prefer reducing the volume of the music as it sometimes makes it difficult to hear my friends. The acoustics is not great for quiet conversations.
One of the best meals that I've had recently. Started with the poke tacos and truffle fries then had the prime rib sandwich and banana cream pie. All were delicious and the prime rib sandwich is now my favorite by a mile. I can't wait to have it again.
The waiter was so great. Service on point.
Excellent service and food enjoyed by all. The pork sandwich was really delicious and highly recommended. The fish tacos are always excellent; well seasoned and full of fresh fish. Server was knowledgeable and patient with an inquisitive guest. Hard place to have a conversation since the room is so "hard" causing echoes. And please, no more cotton towel/napkins getting lint all over my clothes.......
Such a great find while vacationing here.
Not touristy. Lots of locals go there.
We actually ate dinner there two nights in a row the food was so good and we wanted to try more dishes! Our waiter was so fun and made the experience even more enjoyable!
Good food. Waiter seemed overwhelmed. But great atmosphere
Always eat here but this time around food was salty and service was sad and depressing. Jeffrey hardly visit and don't even have any energy to work.
The duck in the duck taco was not crispy as described by our waiter.
Garlic truffle fries were a little on the burnt side
The food was very good. Our server (Max) did a great job. Loved the music during our dinner. Will return.
We had the happy hours specials. It was a nice beginning to an afternoon of fun on a long weekend.
Way too noisy couldn’t hear my partne from 18 inch away. Food mixed fried beans good, poke very bland.
The food is consistently good at Moku. The biggest issue is the deafening noise level, always inside, and recently, also outside. If we had been given an inside table, we would have left. Can't imagine how people can talk when inside. Glad it is so popular but they need to make an effort to absorb the noise. A common complaint around town is the noise level at Moku~
Great food, atmosphere and service. Love this place. And Happy Hour offers some great savings.
