Moku Kitchen is a chef-driven concept that brings Hawaii’s rich upcountry farming and ranching heritage to downtown Honolulu’s urban lifestyle. The upcountry way of life echoes a simpler time where food was locally-sourced and cooked over an open fire on the ranch. At Moku, we like to keep things simple and will serve Chef Peter Merriman’s twist on upcountry specials.

I miss the full table service
I was surprised that I had to open a tab, order and take my drinks with me to the table before we were required to seat ourselves. I understand the concept of "contactless" payment but if the waitress is delivering our food - why wouldn't she be able to deliver the drinks too? :)
Other than that - the Steak Tacos were so yummy and messy (probably not the best thing to order for a business meeting) and Poke also very good. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive.
Very casual with ordering now taking place at the bar before you are seated at the table. Minimal interaction with staff. Good for a weeknight relaxing meal.
Moku has it all! Great food and fun, lively environment, and excellent service!
My friends and I met to catch up after nearly 2 years of no visits (COVID) and 2 of the 3 of us getting married! We had delicious cocktails (a good paloma is my go-to, and the likoi foam on the mai tai is amazing!), wonderful pupus (my friend loved the squash ravioli and I am partial to the thin crust mushroom pizza - i have become a creature of habit), and strawberry cream pie to round it out -- always a treat. To help us celebrate they gave us bubbly to toast while we swapped wedding photos... what a lovely evening! Thank you!
The logistics of getting food I hope is temporary. It was awkward needing to go up to the host table and bar when you wanted to order and get the check. Hoping this is just temporary companies to what it used to be.
Food was great. Location and open air seating is great.
Loved the area it was in, super cute, had reservations and arrived a little early and got in right away. You go up to the bar and order food and drinks then it’s brought to your table. Food was okay, nothing special. Would like to try the pizzas if we come back.
Love that it's dog friendly! Food was good as always! Happy hour is the best!
Great customer service and dog friendly restaurant!
The current set up doesn’t allow for any special event recognition since you have to order drinks before finding your own table then it takes a while for the server to come to the table and because you have to start a tab at the bar then they only know your last name and I’m not sure if they see the notes. We went for my husbands bday and no mention of it. But the food was outstanding.
Great place! Great drinks! Great food! Great service!
Food is good. I just wish the salad bowls were bigger so the greens aren’t stuffed in. It’s difficult to eat the greens when it keep falling on the table. But I love the squash pasta and the roasted vegetables dish that looks like it could feed a village!! Lol! The ginger beer is quite yummy too!
Missed having someone come to your table to take order. The wait wasn't too bad unless you have a group of people, not able to make up their mind about what to order. Enjoyed the food. The Kale salad was very good with the miso dressing.
The servers and bartenders were so kind. Thank you for serving me and my guest well.
Highly disappointed in the change at Moku's. Takes a long time to check in, food was just ok, and service was not good. We went more than 20 minutes with no one checking on us.
I got sick after eating here, but I think it might have just been something spicy not sitting well. The food was excellent, the staff lovely, the drinks tasty, and the atmosphere wonderful. I'd eat there again.
Easy and fast! Staff were great and always checking if web were ok I love this place!!!
Food was phenomenal. I went during happy hour but still expect to spend a good amount if you plan to indulge in several cocktails. Drinks were well made and wait staff very friendly. Noise was not an issue even though it was live music night. Still able to hear conversations and be heard without yelling. The music was pretty great, too. Overall fantastic vibe. Highly recommend.
I haven’t been back since the Pandemic started and was surprised a 4% tip for kitchen help was added to the bill. The food was good and generous. Ordering from the menu before sitting is a great idea. Can’t understand why at the bottom of the bill was 18%, 20%, 22% if needed to tip. Ordering your own food then getting your own drinks is similar to a buffet where usually 10% tip is added. With the extra 4% tip
added it’s a shame to only leave less then 6% tip for the waitress. Gyutaku restaurant years ago did this added a kitchen help tip & when asked why customers weren’t told they said to just deduct that help tip from your regular tip. It would have been nice to be notified before hand about this added tip.
Checking in includes your vaccination card and ID. Then you place your order with any open cashier. Upon placing your drink order or if you are ready for your food order, you can grab a table where ever you prefer. The wait staff is attentive, and friendly.
Food was always good but on a salty side that night. We had dined here before but I don’t remember it being salty but we will still go back when go on vacation on this beautiful island of Oahu.
Great but it was hot and getting hold of a waiter was hard. I would waive but they wouldn’t see me until later.
The food was good but not a fan of the cafeteria-style service. I understand itʻs related to the pandemic but if everyone is required to be fully vaccinated, I donʻt understand why the server canʻt come to the table to take your order.
Date night out, easy to make reservations. Just a little different situation due to safety measure on ordering food and drinks. The have 7 great Moku Libations to choose from. We went with the kale salad, fresh and great portions. Did the local organic mushroom pizza and the truffle oil fries. All excellent delights. Atmosphere is quaint, live music for selected hours. Great staff.
Little to no service at all and the food wasn’t that great.
Something for everyone at every age.
Went there for lunch. We both had the fish sandwich. Very delicious and very messy. Buns kind of gave way but very good. We also ordered some garlic truffle fries that rounded out a great meal. The Beer Lab Seasonal IPA was a great compliment to the meal that I HAD TO order another round 😎. Great meal and will definitely be back.
Expected a table service experience but is was order first then there’s bring food. We were celebrating anniversary which I said in reservation but that was pointless based on service set up. Food was good. Had a couple of hairs in my drink but after I pointed it out to bar tender he remade it. Bottom line it wasn’t “bad” just not the experience we were looking for.
They never asked if we had made a reservation. We just lined up and they verified our information like vaccination card, etc. and we signed in and were told to order at the desk or bar and it was open seating. Never did they asks if we had made a reservation. Food and service was good.
If you haven't been to Moku recently, they've changed their format a bit. You order everything at the coutner (bar area) and then take a number to your seats. They bring out the food, but you get your drinks when you place the order. During your meal, they have wait staff expediting, etc., so you're not without service. I think this is a good idea to have minimal contact with people. I do applaud Merriman for having his employees vaccinated. Certainly, this adds a level of safety for everyone. The hostess also checks for vaccine cards (QR code) and ID for check-in. Additionally, the tables are spaced out very well. I feel like Moku is doing everything right at this point.
The fish and chips was really, really good, with crispy breading, very light. I enjoyed it for lunch. My son had the fish sandwich, which was nicely grilled and had lovely veggies.
They are currently operating “a little differently” given the current pandemic/circumstances with no wait staff and a limited menu. This, I understand. The food was subpar.
Want sure there was a warning that the service was not done by a waiter but yourself ordering your meal at the bar. It broke the mood of the whole evening especially it was for Christmas dinner. Ordwr the food was awkward and confusing and the menu was expensive, and not much too chose from. Although we had to overcome this challenges we still made it through dinner because the bar tender helping us whi was a local lady did her best to make our night better. Besides her there was no other brght spot. Steak was hard and not juicy. Pizza was just ok and can't say more for the rest. Also the food took too long Strawberry pie for dessert was the second best moment of the night I know its covid time but service didn't have to be this bad. I didn't take it out on my server and tipped more than I should but it Christmas dream do come true.. Moku management please improve or you are not going to make it. I want you to thats why I make these comments. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🌲
Moku is our favorite place to eat on island. We go there for date night and family dinners. We love all their appetizers, pizza, and those mai Thai’s!
I normally hate Mai Thai’s but theirs is my favorite drink! We went for Christmas dinner and they had a holiday lamb shank special and it was fantastic! Always great service .... and those Mai Thai’s
Went there for Christmas dinner to get out of the house. The COVID mitigation’s made it a little interesting at first but everything was great. The food was excellent although the menu was limited probably due to being Xmas day. Regardless, it was great! Good service.
We are regular customers but this time the pizza was really not to the standard.
White Wine on the menu was out, Moku sold us a $80 bottle without offering honor the same price on the menu.
Enjoyed Christmas Eve here with the family and had a great meal!
Pretty good, considering all the COVID restrictions. We'll be back!
John our host & B our server were just superb. With the timing of everything, the restaurant was quiet and the quality of service and the high quality of food went so well hand in hand even with a last minute reservation. So thankful :)
I wouldn’t come here for the food. It’s just ok. But the vibe is lively. I’d come here for basically the bar or a happy hour - it’s good for that.
Our server was fantastic! She was really helpful with my food sensitivities and made it happen. Great children’s selection and happy hour!
