Chef An met his fiancé in Ambler which led to his decision to open his restaurant there. He is now an Ambler resident. You can catch him around town walking his two dogs, Henry and Louie. He is excited to share his unique approach to Korean food at Mokja and is knowledge of Asian cuisine all together.

We came for dinner on NYE and were the only ones there. The apps were delicious but the entree (spicy pork) was lacking flavor. As someone who lived in Korea for 4 years I was disappointed. Service was below average. We were never checked on and our water was never refilled. Another family was seated right next to us when the entire place was empty.
Great food and service. Wait times for food were very long though.
We truly feel this restaurant has incredible potential for the ingredients and prep are quality. The restaurant was freezing which led everyone to keep coats around shoulders. The server never even faked a smile once. She just seemed miserable. The limited menu means all items are deliciously made to order which they were. There was an item I requested that was not available any longer. Menus and website could be updated. We definitely will give it a second chance in the Spring.
There was a high pitched sound that kind of reminded you were in the dentist office or something. Very cold inside, had to keep your winter jacket on.
The spicy pork was burnt to charcoal on one side, very unacceptable. Told them about it and they were clueless.
Would not recommend.
Terrible experience. Went on a Saturday night and it was dead in there. One other couple was eating, it was freezing inside, no heat, just a small space heater and dark, not inviting. Service was fine, server was nice. Food was terrible. Yaki Ramen was greasy, fried tofu was over cooked and hard. Tofu came out way before the food and was cold. Portions were smaller than last time on some dishes. Kimchi was pungent, so they served us older kimchi instead fresh. White rice was old and not fresh. Seated near the bathroom and it stank of urinal cakes. Don’t know how they’re still open. Meal was $100 and the biggest waste of money. Really regret going there and will never go back.
Delicious Korean food. Fresh ingredients and very balanced preparation. I’ll definitely be going back.
Food was excellent as always however we were seated next to a door that had a large draft of cold air coming in, making the dining experience very uncomfortable.
The cucumber salad was outstanding! Very fresh with loads of garden tomatoes and a very good dressing. The sauce on the brussel sprout appetizer was very, very good. We had the bimibob with Tofu. The tofu was super crispy and the taste was delicious but the rice was not crispy.
Love this place!!! Food and service were exceptional.
Appetizers of kimchi and fried Brussels sprouts were amazing. The meal itself lacked flavor and was a little bland. My husband’s egg on top of the bipimbap bowl was over cooked unfortunately.
We sat outside which was nice but the tables wobbled a lot and the design of chairs and table were not ideal - the wide slots made chopsticks difficult to control and needed very careful placement of cups.
Another great dining experience at Mokja! Yummy food, in a cool setting!
First visit a couple weeks ago was excellent. Brought friends and crossed fingers for second visit - outstanding. Warmly welcomed back by George who quickly got us glasses for our wine and beer. Once again tried Chef Daniels special and it did not disappoint. The other entrees were all wonderfully flavorful. Brussels sprouts were a stand out app but also loved the edamame, shrimp and fries. Thought we were too full for dessert but it was so good we cleaned the plate.
100% recommend and looking forward to our next visit.
First time we went for dinner, excellent food and evening. Highly recommend…
Very tasty food, glad we got to try the place. The wait for our entrees was longer than we would have expected as the place did not seem to be very busy.
BYOB and enjoy the excellent food at this little restaurant. Book in advance as they seems to fill up. Tried a few different dishes and the kicker shrimp was my absolute favorite this time.
Hidden gem! Walk around the corner from Main Street and try one of everything!
We just returned from dinner at Mokja and feel compelled to share just how good this place is. We tried and devoured the dumplings, eggplant, Korean fried chicken, brussel sprouts, amazing ramen and bibimbap. We even saved a little room for dessert which I can best describe as a tasty, fresh Korean donut. Every single thing that came out of the Kitchen was absolutely delicious, each dish was better than the next. After dinner, we had a chance to speak with the chef/owner, Dan, who was kind and interesting, a skilled restauranteur who is really easy to root for. We had a fantastic meal and will no doubt be back again and again.
Mokja is a Ambler’s best kept secret. Unbelievable food for very reasonable prices! The chef came to our table multiple times to explain the specials and to check in. Service was top notch! The meal that my husband and I were especially blown away by was a special - octopus with rice cakes & snap peas. The octopus was cooked for 5 hours and was the best I’ve ever tasted. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!! I had high hopes and everything about our experience exceeded expectations!
Everything we tried was excellent. Chef Daniel’s octopus special was sensational. Chicken wings were crispy and tasty. Only change we’d make is calling the edamame dish a dumpling. Gentlemen hosting was welcoming and informative. Will be back soon.
Mokja was amazing. The chef went out of his way to come speak to our table after hearing we had food allergies. He tailored our meal based on our allergies and everything was phenomenal. The chicken wings were so crispy and amazing, that’s all I’ve thought about for the last 24 hours. Can’t wait to go back!! Highly recommend!
Yum yum yummy! Why haven’t I been here before? Definitely coming back soon.
This place is awesome. The food was delicious, and we’ll definitely be coming back.
First time I had Korean food. Very delightful. The special of the evening with a Canadian background was fabulous. French fries with Kim chi and spicy beef a true triumph. Will highly recommend this establishment to everyone.
Delicious meal and great service. We had the ramen bowl and fried chicken sandwich. Very good. Will be back.
Waiter was very pleasant and helpful with suggestions from the menu. Food was very good especially the appetizers.
Food is always fantastic here! Service was great too!
Three female friends and I went to Mokja for the first time. None of us were very familiar with Korean food. We were greeting by our server Jo who was very pleasant and patient with explaining the menu to us. We all really liked our meals and shared most dishes with each other. The food came to our table piecemeal, so we did not actually all eat together. Luckily we had allocated plenty of time to be at the restaurant or this could have been problematic. Jo could have visited our table more frequently to see how we were doing, for example for a refill of drinks and extra napkins while waiting for the food. Overall my company liked Mokja and will return to enjoy Korean food.
Last thought, the menu could be improved by having pictures of the dishes on it.
Enjoyed our second visit much more than the first. First visit was marked by a lot of fried food recommended by the waitress. Second visit better advice from the service staff and the food was flavorful, well portioned, and diversified. They could create somewhat better tables outside but otherwise a very good choice for ambler dining. We will return
The food was fantastic. The wings and fries were hot, crispy, and delicious. The ramen was also tasty.
Service was very slow. We were one of two parties in the restaurant. Food was good and portion sizes were generous. Prices are reasonable as well.
Because of a Friday night (combined with additional crowds from Ambler first Friday event) and a very high amount of takeouts our dinner took over 2 hours with very slow service. Restaurant clearly overwhelmed…
We will avoid peak times there in future.
Food was decent.
Great wings and ramen
Mokja was wonderful as always! This was our second time eating at the restaurant and the food and service is always excellent. The owner caters to gluten free allergies and is so kind. Highly recommend! Will be back soon!
Bulgogi could have had more flavor. Meat was good quality. Overall, very good experience. Crispy tofu delicious.
Food was the highlight- other areas could be better as far as service and ambiance. Loved the fried tofu, French fries and the wings. Bowls are good too. The brussel sprouts had way too much balsamic. The restaurant is small and busy. They do a huge takeout business and the servers were hustling to serve customers in store, while filling takeout orders too. It took a while to get our order taken, but then the food came quickly once we ordered. One of the cooks had his mask down every time I saw him in the window. Something to note if not vaccinated or Covid conscious.
Food was amazing!! Highly recommend
Chef Daniel is very accommodating. Food was great!
Great little neighborhood gem. We had the brussels sprouts, the wings, bimimbop, and the ramen. Everything came out delicious and full of flavor. Will definitely be back.
It was fantastic. I’m a big fan of Korean food and the Chef created a fantastic menu that touched on a little bit of everything. The Korean fried chicken wings were spectacular and the Bibimbap was perfect (I want the bowl that it was served in). The homemade kimchi tasted so good that I wish I had asked for a jar of it. I recommend getting several of the sides along with at least one app and large plate. I can’t wait to go back again.
