Visited on a Friday night. Reservation was for 6:15 and we were the only ones in th dining room for probably 30 minutes. Makes you wonder but the food was very tasty, cocktails were good and when we left 2 other parties had arrived. It's not cheap...4 cocktails, 2 apps and a split entree came in at $120 but it was a nice date night.
Service was real slow and there were only two other people there. We kept having to re-ask for refills, water and in the end the wrong price was charged to our credit card which then had to be straightened out ... not the best experience
Best gnocchi ever! The food was exquisite. Limited menu and fledgling restaurant (they had to get their dinner bread from another restaurant) but what they do have is delicious!
We planned to spend our New Years dinner here. We arrived and there was no host, no servers, only a single bartender working. We were not spoken to for 15 minutes after sitting down. We found another place within walking distance after waiting so long. This is obviously a sorry attempt at a hotel restaurant and not a serious restaurant. I will not be returning.
This is a nice restaurant. However the Bartender was also acting as the waiter, the service suffered. Also the food was just ok.

The ambience could be great if only the food and service stepped up. There was also no music which was odd. There was one other table the entire time we were there which was awkward. The service was bad. Our drinks took forever and didn’t come out together. Two people on staff the whole night (including behind the bar). One of the staff seemed to need to tell the other what to do the entire time. It was odd and seemed like a lot of tension.
The food was just so bad. The menu was small which alarmed us but we though perhaps they were really good at the things they did. nope! I had cucumber and avocado rolls to start, which could have been so good with some Asian flair to it or something, instead it was drowned in a balsamic reduction. Two of the main dishes had identical sides served with it which is just lazy on a menu that small. The chicken and salmon were so overdone. You couldn’t out a fork through the salmon. Our other dining date had the gnocchi which remained barely touched due to just not being worth eating. Wine tasted like it had been opened 2 weeks ago or was stolen from the local church wine collection. Paying $13 a glass for a bottle that’s only $9 is robbery. At least get some obscure brands so your customers don’t know you are ripping them off. Until they redo the menu and revamp the service and wine list do not go here. The prices are in the same Ball Park as Brabo at the Lorien and there at least got get a decent meal and wine list. $$$
One server on a saturday night and she was also the bartender and hostess!! So slow...even with only 1 other table.
One couple was there for a business meeting and were obnoxiously loud in the space and the staff did nothing to quiet them down.
Staff was kind and helpful, but only one server was on duty, so we waited to be seated and we waited to pay the bill.
Limited menu was nice, but had nothing special on it. I felt like it was just an overpriced omelette. I got the corned beef hash ... but it wasn't a hash, more like a stew. Not what I was expecting and not particularly good.
Not sure what’s going on since they were once the Grill at Morrison House, then Ashlar, now MoHo... Fantastic servers tried to accommodate, so the review is not addressed to them, but to the food quality and value. Serving Well underdone food is unacceptable and unfortunately constitutes the poor review. The French toast was ok and the corn beef hash interpretation was equally ok. Again, the servers were truly professional, apologetic, and asked if they could recommend something else, but I was let down and chose to just sip water while my family finished their meal.
Great service and excellent food , the attached hotel is a beautiful old classic.
This is the restaurant inside the Morrison House hotel. We were looking for a place to get breakfast on a Sunday morning and saw on Open Table they had availability. The room was nearly empty, maybe two other parties. It took more than 45 minutes to get two breakfasts of fried eggs, potatoes, bacon and toast. When the food finally arrived it was fine. Something is very off in how the place is run. Might explain why there was no wait late on a Sunday morning.
Bartender/waitress Cynthia was great. It was a joy to be served by her.
This is the restaurant in the Morrison House called Ashlar... didn’t realize that when I booked it only when I got there. Was looking for cocktail in s less formal more lively setting. Felt a bit underdressed & not so thrilled with apps, service, or drinks for cost. Will probably not go back.
The wait staff was on point. Very attentive. Drinks from the bar were the highlight. Can't remember specifically which drinks we ordered off the menu, but both were excellent. Will definitely be back especially for Happy Hour
Great place for a romantic date. Quiet and the food was amazing. Not sure if it was because of the holidays or not but there was only the bartender available to play server, host and bartender so service was a little slow.

Beautiful restaurant. Simple menus. Drinks were on point. Had a steak and my partner had a chicken meal. Both were exceptional!! Highly recommended
The restaurant is really aesthetically pleasing - we loved the decor and the beautiful lighting. It is inside the Morrison House Hotel and the Hotel is also very classy. The restaurant was having a very tough evening - it looked like they had a staffing shortage and as a result it took 1.5 hours to get our main plates delivered (and they forgot mine). Nonetheless, the staff were very polite, the cocktails were well mixed, and the food was certainly fine. When it became late enough that I had to move my car, I asked for them to comp me for valet parking and they did so without batting an eye - so I tend to think this is a place that deserves another try on a night when everything isn’t so quirky.
Located in the Morrison House Hotel, a boutique property of Marriott (formerly a Kimpton property), MoHo is a stylish venue with an eclectic style mixing modern and classic historic Alexandria. Very quiet...my companion and I started out as the only diners, but we were joined by others as the evening wore on. The menu was a bit limited, but the food was tasty and delivered with enthusiasm by our hostess, Cynthia, who shared some history on the property.

I really wanted to like Ashlar. Years prior, I had eaten at The Grille and was so enamored by the place and food, but Ashlar fell flat. The restaurant and bar provided a great ambiance, but the food was lacking flavor. The server and bartender—one in the same, since they seemed understaffed—was friendly and kind, but was pulled in too many directions, forgetting our appetizer, forgetting changes to our entrees. Too pricey for lackluster food and forgetful service. Would not recommend at present, but see potential.
The hostess was amazing, attentive, and kind. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
I don't even know where to begin. I'm a foodie and I was raised in the hotel industry.... MY Expectation was way too high, the food was average at best...and we were starving! Paid $50 for breakfast for 3 people. And we drank water. Never again!!

Just plain all round bad. Stood around. No hostess to seat us. Other staff saw us and didn't care. Slow service. Cold eggs. Burnt tasteless bacon. Not cheap. Avoid.
Wow, service was horrible! I saw many other reviews comment on service but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Well, the other reviews were spot on...service was poor, slow, lacking any emotion. We even saw another table not get any service beyond drinks and they got up and walked out. Even though there were three people at any given time in the dining room nothing seemed to move any faster...especially our food.
Let me start with drinks - ordered a coffee, a tea and 2x fruit smoothies...coffee came out, then smoothies (which were about room temp, barely thicker than milk and not sweet at all)....had to ask about my tea (really??? it is hot water and a tea bag...why the long delay?!). And, the food - we waited nearly 45mins to get our food after we ordered. They delivered the kids pancakes and my omelet as ordered (surprisingly) then another omelet with a side of toast only (menu states it comes with home fries but we had to ask for them as well as the side of bacon we ordered--how do you forget to include all the standard items for each entrée??). Also, the menu is really limited...if you like options, check the menu before you arrive or you may be disappointed.
Atmosphere was nice and quaint but with a crowd of people it gets a bit loud. It is kid-friendly in the sense you can bring a kid there but they do not have any coloring sheets/crayons for them...be prepared to bring your own.
It was a swing and a miss and I cannot recommend Ashlar to anyone else, sadly. Best of luck to them bouncing back before it's too late.
We used to love the Grille and had great hopes for Ashlar but were disappointed. The service was so-so; the appetizers and dessert were fine but the entrees were also only so-so. The pork chop was slightly dry and the ribeye overdone. Lastly, parking is limited nearby and the valet was nowhere to be found on arrival and again on departure.
We loved the brunch, will try it again soon. The venue and service was perfect.
Former Morrison House spot. Food was good. Service was a bit slow but the female manager was very nice and accommodating. She was a great service to the restaurant.
Good brunch selection for Mother's Day. Something for everyone, including the children. Crab cakes were excellent; sliders were ok. Service was superb.
This was a quaint little restaurant, a true hidden gem.
Opportunity lost. The space is beautifully remodeled. The waitress sat us down with me yes and I had to ask for the cocktail list, then I had to ask for a wine list. She recited names of grapes then I had to politely ask for a list of actual wines. We ordered two glasses of the same wine and the bartender came over opened a new. Ottowa and poured the glasses not offering to taste the wine. He returned 2/3 the way through dinner with a full wine list, a bit late.
The deviled eggs and cucumber avocado small plates were good. We split an entire and ordered a side of Brussels sprouts. It turned out the pork chop came with Brussels sprouts but rather than tell us the server delivered a main course with an identical side vegetable rather than recommend a different side dish
The food is good, the service seems to be under educated for the level of dining the restaurant menu deserves.
The menu was very different that what was on Yelp. Their web link was broken. So I was surprised that none of the ladies gems shown in the yelp photos were on tonight's menu.
I hope they improve. The design of the space deserves better service as does the kitchen staff who deliver on the cuisine.
Very limited menu choices. Almost a disappointment. Then we had the deviled eggs, which were the best any of us had ever eaten! The shrimp cocktail had a very pleasant and unique sauce. The BBQ ribs (special for the evening) were plentiful and exceptional. Our special compliment to Brad, who was the bartender, Maitre d', and waiter. He did it all and was fun, professional, and efficient.
