We only serve ranch specific Alberta Beef. That means we don’t serve beef from anywhere else on the planet. We know our farmers and ranchers personally and respect the hard work they put into produce our beef. We like our beef to be, hormone & antibiotic free and pasture raised. Happy cattle make for better steaks.
We are one of just a handful of steakhouses in Canada that serves, Grass-fed, Grain-fed, Wet-aged, Dry-aged and Waygu beef 365 days a year. Our beef is always fresh never frozen.
We use an 1800o Infrared Grill to cook your steaks. The high heat creates a flavourful crust on outside of the steak and leaves a juicy centre.

I have known of modern steak for over a year now but I had not had a reason to go. I finally went there for a date and was immediately greeted by a friendly host. She took out coats and lead us to our table. Our server was excellent. He read our table, gave us a knowledgeable walk through of the menu and gave us an excellent wine recommendation. He ensured that our table was doing well, constantly refilling our waters and wine glasses. The food was tasty (I fell in love with the butternut squash) and the steak was amazing. The ambiance of the restaurant was amazing, the decor was great and the music was at a good level. While it is on the pricy side it is a great place to go and experience if you haven’t. Could see it being a great place not only for a date but for groups. Will be back soon. P.S. (I can’t remember our servers name, maybe it was mark? But he looks like he’s in he’s 30s with dark hair, he made our experience great )
Our first time there, a date night and it was a great experience. They sat us in a cute little private room with a few other couples away from the noise and other diners. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I have a gluten allergy and was told that I could have anything on the menu as they make everything in house and would be able to modify. I definitely recommend to anyone.
I found us a reservation for Valentines day. 7:45. We weren't seated until after 8. There was a set menu, two options for each of the four courses, except for the main, which you could chose from a handful of different steaks. The first two courses were great (we got opposites to try everything), other than how long they took to come out. The main was underwhelming. My steak was nearly blue rare; I ordered medium knowing they come on the rare side. I also received a sirloin, instead of the striploin I ordered. The 'house vegetables' were fresh (uncooked) green beans, now cold but previously butter melted upon. Mashed potatoes are pretty tough to mess up. The Orange Chiffon Cake for dessert tasted like Tofu, we didn't bother finishing and rushed the bill to make our show downtown which we were late for. (2h:15min from our reservation time) I had to try 4 samples of the few 'by the glass' red wines before I could find one that was drinkable.. Not really impressed for a $300 dinner.
It was our first time at Modern Steak and we were there for Valentines Day. There was a set menu with 2 choices for each course. Everything was good, not outstanding. A little pricier than other chef tasting menus we’ve had but the wine was 1/2 price Thursday so that was nice! Excellent waiter and service. Nice, attentive staff and upbeat yet classy atmosphere.
Great fine dining experience. It's pricey but your not just paying for the food, you're paying for the highly experienced staff and the beautiful ambiance. I felt like every one of my needs were met in a heartbeat. It felt as if we were a priority. My only complaint was that there seemed to be a draft at our feet and by the time we were finished eating my toes were numb they were so cold. It was freezing outside so I'm not sure if there was a window or door open somewhere but it was quite unpleasant. Overall, it was a very memorable experience for my husband and I. We hadn't been out on a date, just the two of us, since before our daughter was born 6 months ago. So, this meant a lot to us.

We made a great choice heading to Modern Steak. Some of the reviews on here about portions and quality had me a little concerned but I’m glad we still decided to check it out. We personally had a great experience. We had the Tomahawk Sunday special. Like I said, the steak was unreal. The sides were tasteful & we found the portions to be quite alright. The music? Try not to sing along when you go, it’s nearly impossible. Jeff, our waiter was knowledgeable and provided great service. It was also nice to have the manager check in on things, he was upbeat and I quite enjoyed his friendly persona. Overall the place was super fun and I didn’t mind paying for the quality that we received. We were both well fed when we left. The steak was cooked how a steak should be, if you’re looking for a place to ruin a steak by overcooking it- this is not your place. We would 100% recommend for a night out.

Ordered a flat iron steak medium, it was served very rare. Sent it back, they basically seared the outside and sent it back....still rare. Hubby had stroganoff, far too much rosemary in it, to the point of overpowering. Wouldn’t bother eating here again, very expensive for only a fair-ish meal. You’d do a lot better at a Ruth’s Kris, or even the keg for that matter, compared to this.
Great experience, service is amazing and educational. My only complaint is with the food, although the steak was delicious, the side was really lacking, we tried two different ones and they were not that tasty. The poutine barely had any cheese or gravy and was not any different than an ordinary poutine.
These guys know steak. I had the grass-fed filet and my husband had the Wagyu striploin. Crab in a jar to start. Baked Alaska to end. Fresh, delicious food. Steaks perfectly cooked - I usually under-order the temperature because most places over cook - but they came our perfect. Attentive service. Oh - the cocktails were awesome too.
Our server was friendly and answered all our questions and the wine was delicious. It wasn’t too noisy we could carry on a good conversation.
We came on date night and it was our anniversary so we really hoped that it would be something special at Modern Steak and boy was it ever. Our server Rachelle was absolutely incredible and the right amount of attentive. We sat at table 20 which was a cute little privateish spot that was cozy. The night was spectacular and the food was brilliant. Both steaks cooked perfectly and we enjoyed our sides. Desserts were delicious to cap the night off. We will definitely be back and we would absolutely recommend.

It was delicious and awesome. My only complaint is the value for the added scallops on the steak, which, to be fair, the server tried to steer us away from. Super knowledgable and helpful with a variety of allergies. It's hard to find a nice place to eat that can easily accomodate dairy, gluten and egg free but this place was awesome!! Highly recommend.
Was really looking forward to this dinner at Modern Steak. I am pregnant and was very excited for a “good” steak. We ordered a medium rare strip loin and received a very rare (was obviously raw in the middle still) and being pregnant I don’t want to risk anything. We sent it back to be cooked more. The manager had the audacity to say very loudly when he returned with our steak that “ it has been cooked to a medium from a medium rare”. The steak was still borderline rare but it was decent. I’ve had steaks from Gordon Ramsay steakhouse and other various high end steakhouses around America, I know what a true medium rare looks like. The be treated as if I didn’t was extremely maddening and we will not be returning.
Our meal was great but the cleanliness of the restaraunt & especially the bathrooms definately need to be addressed.
Absolutely unreal experience! The best meal we’ve ever had. Wagyu steaks just melted in your mouth. Everything was cooked to perfection. Brandon our server was fantastic, can’t speak highly enough about this place, our meal, and experience. We will be back 100%!
We celebrated an anniversary dinner at Modern Steak. The service was exceptional - very attentive but never intrusive. The Brant Lake Wagyu trio was heavenly! Would highly recommend this restaurant. It's worth the splurge.

Outstanding service from Brennan and amazing wine selection. The steak was UNREAL (ordered the tenderloin - could have cut it with a butterknife), loaded mashed potatoes (OMG) and the butternut squash (that had a maple glaze). I would absolutely go back!!
*my only caveat - not a fan of the decor...felt a little 'Miami Vice' with all the high gloss white framed mirrors, black walls, and crystal chandeliers.

Steaks and wine were great! Creme brûlée wasn’t the best but it didn’t affect the overall experience. Lovely staff and perfect ambience for a date. Thank you for accommodating “cozy seats” request - we loved it there and will be back for sure!
Ordered risotto as well as prime rib with baked potato.
The risotto was excellent, but the prime rib was cold and tasted as if it had been re-heated. The baked potato was undercooked. While they acknowledged they made a mistake and the waitress did not charge us for the meal, it was a disappointing experience, especially for a place that specialises in steaks etc
We enjoyed our meal and left very full! The baked potato was enormous! Wait staff very nice and when error made in cooking steak the owner came over right away, apologized and offered to comp the steak. That was above and beyond!
Tess our waitress was awesome, extremely knowledgable of the menu, suggestion were right on and she anticipated our every need. Food was great. I would tell you the best table in the house but I dont want to make sure it's available when I reserve dinner the nxt time.

We had an amazing dining experience this evening. It was my husband’s birthday and the experience was wonderful from the time we arrived until the time we left. Our server, Kade made our dining experience extraordinary! He was very knowledgeable about the menu. He was very personable and accommodating. Definitely a place to go for an amazing steak and amazing service!!

We really enjoyed the food and service. Unfortunately my husband and I both got sick but due to many factors we cannot say for sure it was from here, but coincidentally this was the only place we both at the same meal at.
