My friends and I went to restaurant week and one of them arrived about 10 minutes late due to traffic. The waiter made a comment about her not being there which was fine but when she arrived he made a point to say she was late which definitely made her uncomfortable. As we were looking over the menu he became annoyed that we’re weren’t ready to order the two times he came over but we made a point to tell him we all wanted to get different dishes so we could try the most amount of dishes so it was going to take a minute to decide. After that we didn’t see him for probably 20 minutes which if he was giving us some space I appreciate but he almost seemed to ignore us for most of the rest of the evening. It’s not to say the food wasn’t good or his service wasn’t the best but not only did I notice it, my friends did and another server who checked in on us more than our own waiter. It just seemed like he didn’t want to bothered with a group of girls. Oh and not to mention we all saw him check his tip on each one of our bills. Normally I’m a 20% tipper but he was not very attentive and seemed like he assumed we’d be bad tippers as a group of 30 something women. Which if that’s how your operating your table you will get a lower than above standard tip.

The left-side room is quite "bright" and so fairly noisy... but fun people-watching. (the chairs are actually just right, and no one was seated cheek-and-jowl close). The service and wine suggestions were competent.
Food: The Burrata salad was excellent... , lush burrata on crispy tiny greens and shaved fresh hearts of palm with pomegranate seeds and small sweet squares of persimmon to cut through the cheese.
The Rigatoni (Amatriciana) was al dente, the sweetness of the tomatoes were a bit lost in a quite salty sauce -- I blame the guanciale.
The duck breast was HUGE! seared, but quite rare (no medium there) ... really needed the serrated knife to cut it. The sweetness of the pomegranate/cider reduction balanced the duck nicely.
The poached pear tart was a nice book-end to the creamy burrata and a good cup of coffee (press) was just right.
Wine: Vermentino was a long-forgotten old friend and the Sangiovese blend was just light enough to balance the duck.
Was it worth $250.00?... in today's market, YES. ... was it Saturday night of restaurant Week?.. YES. Was it gracious?.. Sort of.. we will go back on a less popular evening.

Loved it. Hadn't been in DC to eat in two years but am happy I went in tonight. Sat at the bar and had some delicious drinks made to complement the price fixe meal. Had roasted octopus to start followed by gnocchi. Main course was Branzino and gave into the tiramisu for dessert. Was a great choice.

Lovely experience dining at Modena for restaurant week! Was with a small group of friends and we did the 3-course menu. Everyone enjoyed their dishes; the heirloom beet salad was something I could eat every day - super-fresh and delicious. Tagliatelle was very good, but could've been hotter. We enjoyed chatting with our server about both food and wine. Very pretty dining room and cozy at the same time. Look forward to returning to try what's on the regular menu.

This is my favorite restaurant in DC, and I want to explain why, with enough detail to be helpful to others who are looking for new places to eat. First of all: the food is exceptional. A lot of Prix Fixe places want you to spend 200 bucks walking in the door - Modena lets you order one or a few of the amazing things they have on the menu, or go Prix Fixe, and the chef's menu changes often.

The next thing I love is the amazing craft cocktails. This place is small compared to some other DC restaurant, but their lead bartender Dan is an innovator. He's always inventing new cocktails, and the go-to drinks on their menu are excellent.

Finally - they take great care of their staff, so the staff sticks around. Our favorite waiter, Vic, has been there since shortly after opening, and knows what we want without us having to ask.

Modena is great food, amazing drinks, and top-notch service. Give them a try!

We did the Italian Experience. Food was good quality but seemed a quite over priced for the dishes we were served. Added wine selection at $45 per guest and expected to at least get 1 red wine at a With our Italian Experience. Whites and Rose. Quite a let down.

We went here to celebrate a birthday because it had outdoor seating available on short notice while other restaurants closed down. The food and service were superlative. I requested an off the menu pomodoro with vegetables because I didn't care for the other vegetarian options, and it was wonderful. One of my companions ordered the truffle gnocchi and it was one of the best things I've ever tasted.

I had always thought of this place as a business lunch fixture, but I'll definitely come back here for regular social occasions. The outdoor seating is a an ordinary plastic tent, but they kept it warm with heaters and had soft lighting for ambiance.

We had the most wonderful dinner. The food was excellent, the pasta home made, the portions perfect. Our server Petra was fantastic; knowledgeable, fun and friendly.
The restaurant design was such that the noise level was minimal with many soft surfaces absorbing the sound.
The wine list is very good.
Highly recommend for special celebration or a romantic dinner.

Went to Modena for Christmas Eve dinner and had the 3 course option.
We had several options for each meal, all very delicious. The server was even knowledgeable on GF options.
Everything tasted very good. We had the heirloom beet salad, arugula salad & grilled calamri as appetizers, the braised short rib (the best of all), the ribeye & GF tagliatelle.

Food is carefully prepared, and nicely served, but not outstanding in taste. Given the high price point, it was not worth it for us. Only one item out of a dozen stood out: the fried artichoke appetizer.

Very good selection of Italian dishes. I highly recommend the beet salad and the in-house gelatos and sorbets. The seafood stew was good — large prawns and excellent white fish. The broth was over salty for my taste. Service very good.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Modena on December 15, 2021. We had the beet salad and the arugula salad, and then duck breast and tortellini in brodo. Everything was delicious. Our server, Antonio, was professional and attentive without being intrusive. A very nice evening.
