From September 30 through October 4, 2023, Knightsbridge Restaurant Group’s chic Italian restaurant, Modena, located at 1100 New York Ave, NW, 20005, will showcase a special tasting menu that will tantalize the taste buds in honor of Italian Design Week, an annual event which brings together industry leaders, experts, and enthusiasts from various sectors to explore the latest trends, innovations, and insights in Italian design. Executive Chef Benjamin Lambert’s swoon-worthy four-course, prix fixe menu will be priced at $90 per person, excluding tax and gratuity, and will be available in addition to the restaurant’s seasonal a la carte lunch and dinner menus, from September 30 through October 4, 2023. Recently diagnosed gluten intolerant it has been a challenge to find delicious foods. This place had it all! Even different pastas that were gluten free… not penne- the saddest noodle.

We chose this restaurant because they offered gluten free options, and my friend who is very begrudgingly gluten free was overjoyed at the quality and variety of GF options. We split everything, and I didn’t miss the gluten at all. It was all delicious.

Food was fine. Service is weak. Asked for a cucumber martini and was told they don’t make them. No one ever offered ground pepper or cheese. It was just full service. Atmosphere was cheezy Italian decor. Hard chairs, no table clothes or candles. Felt just slightly better than Olive Garden. Prices were moderate, presentation of most dishes were nice, taste was good to very good.

Highly recommend Modena for its excellent food and service. The menu presented wonderful options and servings were ample, beautifully prepared and plated. The most amazing polenta appetizer with juicy meatballs, tomato sauce and spinach. Our entree of skate was a surprising hit with my husband and I. If only I could cook like their chef. Do try it.

We loved our dining experience at Modena. The ambience, service, and food were exceptional. It was our anniversary, and they brought out a glass of Prosecco for each of us as soon as we sat down. The food and flavors were outstanding. We had the fried artichokes for a starter, which were delightful. I had the gluten free homemade gnocchi with mushrooms, which was such a treat. My husband ordered bolognese and loved it. We will definitely keep it in mind for a returned visit when we are in town again.

Fellow travelers, take note! After a long day of meetings in DC as you are looking for a bit of calm and deliciousness, head directly to Modena. Every element of my experience was wonderful…especially with the Chef’s attention to my gluten free requests…a perfect setting for a business discussion…an intimate dinner or a time to simply relax at the end of a hectic day. We did the four course tasting menu. It did not disappoint! You may see other reviews mention small portion sizes, but I found the portions to be perfect for the four course meal. So…find a way to stop by Modena….and tell Preta and Dan I said hello.

We had a pretty big group and overall the service was excellent. Our server was attentive and helpful in making recommendations. We had a variety of drinks, primi, pastas, and secondi, and everything was absolutely delicious (we didn't have dessert). My only complaint was the value. It ended up being about $80 per person, including $40 for water (not sure if this is a DC thing, but it's a little silly in my opinion). I also find the 3% surcharge thing a bit silly, why not just raise the prices?

We love this restaurant -- the food and the wonderful staff, especially Petra. We've brought friends who enjoy it as much as we do. It's an easy Metro ride from home and a short, pleasant walk. We love the fish and the pasta, recent choices. Their creative heirloom tomato appetizer as one example. The desserts vary and never disappoint. Flavored olive oil pairs perfectly with the focaccia bread. The eclectic cocktails and wines at reasonable prices give patrons plenty of choices.

If I have to rate Modena extra stars, then I would without hesitation! We had a great experience starting form the greeting, the service, the food and then they went over and beyond to accommodate a table for my special occasion. Special thanks to Zack and Dan.
