Mochica’s policy of dinning group from 10ppl and up regards and includes:
- Table minimum reservation period if 2.5 hours
- Time slots (walk-ins)
- Non-refundable deposit and cancellation fee (contract)
When you make a reservation, you agree to meet the table minimum.
Table minimum depends on of the group size and time:
- 10ppl -12ppl $450 minimum consume
- 15 – 18ppl $540 minimum consume
- 18 and up ppl prefixed menu + room fee
All minimums did not include the tax and gratuity. If minimums aren't reached then, Mochica will add the difference to the final bill before the guest closes the bill. Please arrive on time and be informed that your reservation will be held for 15min after this period we will cancel it.

Started with a cocktail (a gimlet with mint and basil), so refreshing!
Shared an order of ceviche mixto, all of the seafood was stunningly fresh and flavorful.
Ordered the aji de gallina and pulpito (octopus) dishes. Loved the aji de gallina, delicious flavors. The pulpito was well prepared, but I didn't love the spice mix. No knocks on the chef, that was my personal preference.
Only one warning: as in many SF restaurants, the tables are fairly close together, so your experience rests on who your neighbors are. It wasn't an issue with the party on one side of us. However, the party at the table on the other side included a woman who had an incredibly shrill voice and spoke very loudly. It was difficult to have a conversation after she sat down.
I have nothing against the food in Mochica...it's tasty, and so are the drinks. But have something against the price of the food. Much of the menu is small plate tapas, but with prices of $15-20, these tapas very quickly add up to a major price tag. My dining partner and I elected to take mains, instead, which were priced in the $25 range. That's an OK option, but not a desirable one when you'd rather have several interesting nibbles at a cost that doesn't break the bank. I won't rush back.
The food was good but they were not very accommodating of gluten free options and the service was slow. Didn’t get water or attention for 10 minutes after we sat down. The waitress was nice was also giggling and distracted while we ordered. Unlikely to go again and better options nearby in Potrero.
Mochica is a different neighborhood gym. The food is terrific the service is wonderful. It is very noisy the Acoustics are somewhat lacking. However it is a delightful place to try some excellent Peruvian dishes. My ahi tuna which I found on the short menu for Tapas, was delicious
Food was good, especially the Aji, and the hot sauce requested was actually hot. Thanks! Beet salad lacked a little zing. The Pisco sour, however, was abysmal. Come on, include a little alcohol, wait until the foam dies down and give us an honest pour. Fortunately, you had some Sculpin in bottles, so the drinks were not a total loss. Good attentive service.
We live in the neighborhood and have found Mochica's to be a great local eatery when we want to celebrate a special occasion. We had a relative from LA who'd never eaten Peruvian food. Days after our dinner, he was still talking about the lomo saltado and seafood dish in a curry spicy sauce. We shared those dishes and appetizers and he commented how everything was fresh tasting. The calamari was not chewy and dry and the crab filled yucca-balls were superb. Service was wonderful. The waiter suggested the sangria pitcher instead of buying by the glass. By the way, the sangria beats all others!! The one thing I'd change is the choice of music from salsa to the beautiful sounds of Peruvian pipes and others. Otherwise I recommend Mochica's Restaurant.
We were there to celebrate Peruvian Independence Day. The restaurant was not too busy, with a couple of people waiting. Food was great, the service was awful. Arrived at 8:30 for our reservation, and was seated promptly. No one came to our table to greet us nor take our drink order for about 15 mins. We asked the hostess whom our server was, and she responded "he will be right there". He finally arrived 5 mins after. Greeted us, and said we have something for you from the house. Did not even ask if we wanted something to drink. He showed up 2 minutes later with a sauce container of roasted corn nuts. Then he finally asked us if we wanted something to drink. We told him we were ready to order, and gave our server the entire order. The drinks came quickly, but then I noticed the 2 tables next to us, who were seated 10 mins & 20 mins after us received their 2 appetizers before us. 5 mins later, at this time, we were half way done with our 2nd round of drinks. 1 of our 2 appitzers came, and then nothing else. We asked our server if our 2nd appetizer was coming, and he said "everything was coming". The table next to us received their entrees, and we were still waiting. The server came after looking at our table with nothing on it and dropped 2 shots of pisco, and said the kitchen is backed up. Right, the kitchen was backed up, but the table next to us already received their entrees. Finally 10 mins later at 10:10pm, the server came with one of the 2 entrees and finally the 2nd appetizer. Another 5 mins later, the 2nd entree came. At this point, I have lost my appetite and didn't even enjoy my meal. After our meal, we were looking all over for our sever for the bill. We finally found him chatting with another party in the other side of the dining room. If there is an option for 0 stars for service this server would get it for his awful service. We have been to all of Carlos Alteimiro's restaurants, as well as the food truck, and everytime we had great service.
Very good experience at Mochica. Nice beer and cocktail selection (loved the sangria!) and delicious Peruvian dishes. We tried all three of their best-sellers, the seafood bouillabaisse, chicken in aji amarillo sauce, and stir-fried beef with lomo saltado sauce. All three were great. There was a slight misunderstanding about our order but it was ironed our very quickly. Our waitress was wonderful. The only thing I would ask is for Mochica to move a little closer to downtown - but then it would be always busy and hard to get a reservation. Thank you, we'll be back!
My friend and I had a 5:30 pm reservation that we made on Open Table at about 5:05 pm. Upon our arrival, the waiter took our drink and food order promptly. I had one of their artesanal beers on tap and my friend had a fresh lemonade. Both were brought to our table quickly. We then split a delicious salad that had both veggies and fresh fruit on it -- highly recommended. My friend had the half roasted chicken -- the portion was so huge that he took the remainder home in a doggy bag. I ordered the bouillabaisse with salmon and seafood -- the serving bowl was gargantuan and the combination cooked in a spicy cream sauce was delicious. I should have taken part of it home too but it was so good that I ate the entire portion right there. Service for every course was prompt and friendly. And the prices were outrageously reasonable, seeming to us like what we pay for a meal in South America rather than in San Francisco! We'll definitely be returning to Mochica.
The food was mainly terrific- we split the beet salad (ok) yucca balls (very good) and seafood stew (the standout). But they brought the salad and stew (the entree) at once, followed by the yucca balls. Which made no sense and also meant we were done more quickly than we wanted since we weren't tempted by the dessert menu.
