San Francisco’s critically acclaimed Mochica is the home of Peruvian Fusion. Long considered one of San Francisco's best kept secrets, Chef Carlos Altamirano prominently features the unmistakable touch of Peru, with the distinct flavors of regional spices in every dish; yet with unexpected and delightful twists.

Delicious food, tasty drinks and great service. We will definitely be back
Mochica is one of the best restaurants in SF. Daniel and the entire staff are incredible! The Peruvian menu, empanadas, scallops, seafood paella and everything are sublime.
Love this place - the food and the outdoor dining and the friendly staff!
The Pisco Sours were good. We had Anticuchos of pork belly - not warm enough and average tasting and Ceviche Chifa - which was good. We had Lomo Saltado which was decent. Overall the food quality was average but the service was good.
Really exceptional service, excellent food, dine in the outdoor area and mid-day it was just fine...not crowded...very enjoyable. I was surprised when I got the bill...perhaps it is pandemic prices...but over $150 for lunch...granted we had two drinks each which contributed...but still, quite steep. Still, I need to underscore that both the food and the service were top notch.
Peruvian food is known to be very flavorful - I didn’t feel this was quite the case with Mochica. Everything was okay, but I wouldn’t say good or great. Paella was decent, ceviche was okay but some of the seafood in it was bland. The empanadas were mediocre. The churros for dessert were not sweet and the dipping sauce for them was very liquidy and looked like milk (as opposed to a thicker chocolate or dulce de leche dipping sauce).
Food ans drinks are always great, a must do in San Francisco.
Very good food and awesome service! Don’t forget the Piscos!
This is NOT authentic Peruvian Food. I was very disappointed. Ceviche was so small and it tasted bland, Anticuchos were undercooked and raw. Only thing that was okay was the Lomo Saltado but we all know it doesn't take a genius to make that. Over priced for crappy food I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.
Food and drinks are fantastic. The owner is very friendly and welcoming- we took my parents there who were visiting and he made them feel super special. Love this place!
We tried a few different cocktails and several tapas, and every single thing at Mochica was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. This is a new favorite restaurant!
Great staff, good food, portions were too small for the price point
It was over a year I did not dine at Mochica, it is always as good.
We picked the outdoor option, such a nice addition to this restaurant that was always packed! Now it can be packed in and out. We had a reservation and were promptly seated.
The service is always super friendly, it did take some time for the food to come, but we were enjoying our time chatting and sipping on delicious cocktails.
Portions are always quite generous, I generally cannot make it to deserts! I had the Quinotto (Quinoa Risotto), if you are into creamy cheesy type of dish, you will have a blast. My partner got the half chicken. We were both satisfied!
Evenings are quite busy in Potrero Hill, so you get a bunch of people passing by and the overall energy is super.
Was concerned that charged when asked for extra chips and extra sauce.
Hadn’t been to mochica in a while - forgot how delicious it was!!!
Mochica has an incomplete variety of Peruvian cuisine. We understand that the cost to operate a business in a pandemic requires additional capital, however, we don't believe the price justifies the quality which is served. The ají de gallina was texturally excellent, yet lacked flavor. Similarly, the ceviche de pescado had the same predicament. It's great to see this restaurant roaring back to life during the pandemic, but, having experienced many Peruvian restaurants, I'd expect either a better value or higher quality of flavor.
The food was more than excellent. One of my favorite places in the city to eat although a bit pricey. The ambience is nice for outdoor seating. The service was slow but I understand during these times that staffing may be limited.
Unfortunately the lomo saltado wasn't done the traditional way (soy sauce based) but instead with mexican tomato sauce. Also they were out of Inka Kola.
Always had good memories here. The dishes I had this time ... after Covid shut down seemed a bit different but still good. Will return as this is a local joint for me! And the sangria never disappoints!
service could have been better.
lack of attention, I needed to ask for help
Hard to rate based on coved. it was very cold outside and the heat lamps were not powerful. Food was ok but overpriced. Service was friendly but not very attentive. Sufficient street parking in a lively area.
Lets just start by saying Peruvian food is the best in my opinion. My girlfriend and i went there about a week ago to celebrate her birthday. And althought we had to sit outside we enjoyed it so much. The food is so delicious and the service is 5 stars forsure. Would we go back?🤔 yes we will! Amazing restaurant! Super recommended!
Phenomenal food and the owner is so sweet!
I found it a little overpriced for the quality. But overall ok
We had a wonderful time in Mochica. The outdoor set-up was just lovely and roomy. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went the extra mile for us. Even though it was late afternoon, they noticed we were feeling a little cold and lit up the outdoor heaters without us having to ask. The food was amazing as well, from the ceviche, the cocktails, the main courses, to dessert.
Great food and attentive servers!
Best Peruvian in SF!
One of my favorite Peruvian restaurant in town. Ceviche is to die for. Drinks are great!! It’s the place to go for Peruvian food!!
The food and drinks was great!!
The food was amazing! Everything we ordered was delicious - the platanos, the chicken chicharrones, the seafood bouillabaisse and the pork belly fried rice - I recommend it all! Also enjoyed the sangria. Can't wait to go again!
The ceviche was definitely not fresh.
Love the food & great ambiance for outdoor dining
Great date spot
The food was great but the overall price did not justify the food. The service was really bad and had to wait over 15 mins just to have our order taken and then same to pay the check. I specifically asked to have us seated near a heater when I made the reservation, and no arrangements of the sort were made even after we reminded the restaurant of our needs(there were other tables available within 10 minutes of us sitting down)
Got seated on a wet table and chair while it was drizzling outside. No cover offered. A very wet experience.
Great Food and Drinks! Staff was Amazing! We are looking forward to our next visit.
We came here with low expectations, knowing that having just reopened for outdoor dining poses a lot of challenges for the restaurant. Nevertheless, we left with several bad tastes in our mouth and the feeling of having been completely ripped off.
We were hugely let down by both the poor quality of the food and extremely high price. We would have been more than happy to pay what they charged us, had the food been even close to worth the bill.
The "complimentary" chips they served us were oily and soggy. The drinks were almost entirely juice. Their margarita tasted like cleaning fluid. The shrimp I had for appetizer tasted and stunk like chemicals. We also had a Cebiche, which was actually pretty good.
Our main courses were reminiscent of slop you'd avoid at the grocery store's hotbar, accompanied by dry and bland rice. I was lucky enough to have picked one that actually had a leaf or two of fresh ingredients, a poorly executed and predictable afterthought of overly vinegared greens, although my dining partner was not so lucky as her plate consisted only of bland rice and extremely bland chicken that looked and tasted like it belonged in a "1954 Jello Mold & Casserole Edition" of "Barely Housekeeping". My short rib dish was drenched entirely in a sauce that added zero new flavors to the dish and was indistinguishable in flavor from the meat itself. The beef itself was overcooked and chewy. The presentation was what I imagine meals in white-collar prison look like.
The food quality was objectionable, but only because of the price. We ate most of what we were served, but it tasted like a $15-30 per person meal.
Service was average to good, but they then slapped our party of two with a 20% non-optional gratuity already added into the bill. We would have tipped 20% anyways, but it added to the mounting evidence that they knew they were ripping people off. Save your appetite, and your wallet, for a restaurant other than Mochica.
