M.J. O'Connors Waterfront Ratings and Reviews
First, the chicken strips (beer battered, not kids) are SUPERB. The flatbreads are good, too. We ate here 2 nights in a row plus one lunch for a dance convention in the hotel. The Friday and Saturday night server was excellent. The fish tacos are lame. No salsa and served with tarter sauce. Yucky and plain. And fried. Get a lesson on fish tacos.
The worst 2 parts....to go lunch line on Sunday was hideous and it took 40 minutes to get one order of chicken strips and fries. Even worse than that....Saturday after noon went in for margaritas with a friend and asked for a "good one" (i.e. top shelf - good tequila plus Cointreau) and the bartender was super grouchy and rude. (A bigger girl with lower shirt buttons unbuttoned because her shirt didn't fit, for reference.. SO RUDE to us!!!!! Saturday, April 30th, 2:30pm. Awful) So, the margaritas came and they were SO awful and sour...but we were so afraid of her that we didn't dare complain. So....she charged us $32.00 for two horrible margaritas served with a side of nasty attitude. Worst bartender EVER.
This restaurant mainly attracts a hotel guest, convention or comedy club crowd, so it gets really busy at times. On comedy club nights, it's crazy busy within an hour of a show, then quiet, then busy again for the next show. When conventions are in town, it's crowed with large groups and gets quite noisy. Service suffers when it gets busy so expect that. That being said the food is good so I do find myself going back often.
M. J. O'Connors was a delightful find. I was looking for a restaurant that would accommodate a large party in close proximity to the Seaport Convention Center. The location was perfect, but more importantly the service was fabulous and the food delicious. Great menu with lots of options; something for everyone! I have a convention this summer at the Seaport and will be recommending M. J. O'Connors to my colleagues.
Simply stated the food is amazing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable as well. I've eaten here several times due to being in the immediate vicinity for work and while I don't consider myself a bar or pub person; I would come here again even if I wasn't working in the area. They have a lot of options, a reasonable price point and excellent presentation.
They also have a gluten sensitive menu, which contained quite an array of dishes to choose from. The food and service was good on a quiet night, although I asked for no onion on my salad and it came out piled high with them. I did my best to eat around them and it was fine. I didn't say anything to the waitress because I didn't want to wait for another salad with chicken to be made as it was already fairly late on a week night to be eating. I'd definitely go back as it was a quiet alternative to the busy Seaport restaurant scene.
We came to Boston for Marathon weekend. We made reservations for all our dinners because with 7 people and 2 small kids, we knew it would be difficult to find accommodations. But what a find MJ O'Conners was. We had a wonderful meal here. Great food, great beer selection. Jovial atmosphere. Great time.
This is a convenient restaurant attached to the Westin at the Boston Convention Center. The atmosphere is "Sports Bar" - the food is acceptable but the service is indifferent - forget about getting more water. If it were not for the convenience factor for conventioneers they would have a hard time competing with other seaport restaurants.
Good food, laid back atmosphere. The waitress was great and suggested something from every section of the menu. She suggested the clam chowder which was out of this world good. Not on the waterfront but convenient and walking distance to the Blue Hills Pavillion.
We were seated right away. After that, we waited, and waited, and waited. The waiter seemed to disappear and never really come back too often. It took forever for him to take our drink order and then forever to get them. Seeing the writing on the wall, we put our entire order in right away. I ordered the Fish and Chips. It was a very large piece of fish which was a pleasant surprise. The French Fries were good, and seemed fresh. I also had the Clam Chowder which seemed a little thin.
Nice atmosphere, food was very good. I don't like to book reservations through third party, it creates a distance/ cold feeling. Waitress was great although we think she was the only one working. We had reservations so the wait wasn't bad, 15 mins. Those without had to wait 20 mins, or more in an empty restaurant. There were over ten empty tables. Most of these people left and these seats went unfilled. I understand there were lots of reservations that may not have shown.
The night we were there, the wait was an hour or more. We had reservations and were seated right away. It seemed as though they were not prepared for a large crowd. The wait was long, menu kind of limited. I think you are better off with burgers, or sandwiches. Fries were cold, steak tips chewy. The atmosphere was lively and comfortable, the waitress was pleasant. I think the food could be better. A good spot to meet for drinks.
Our experience at O'Connors was really great - we are family and hadn't seen each other in a long time - a lot of conversation, picture sharing, laughs - and Myra, our waitress, was very attentive, personable - excellent - we were wishing she could join us!!!!
The corned beef special was delicious. I had the Salmon. The only disappointment was that the menu said plantains, but the were thin strips of fried plantain chips, not whole plantains fried, which was I expected. Great selection of beer. Service was friendly.
