MJ O’Connors was clean, food was very good, Guinness was cold. We got our table on time. Service was good. I would definitely recommend this.
The food was mediocre at best and the service was poor. We weren't looking for anything elegant or overly expensive. But the experience was not at all what we expected. Would not go again.
Hello- We're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your recent visit with us at MJ O'Connor's. Would you be willing to share additional information about your visit, so we can make the necessary improvements? Any additional information you're able to provide would be greatly appreciated. It was game night and we thought with it being an Irish Pub in Boston that the place would be heaving and have an amazing atmosphere. It couldn’t have been further from the truth, the place was half empty. The servers looked like they didn’t want to be there. I asked one lady (who wasn’t my server) for a couple of glasses of water (we were already 3 beers in at this point) and she walked away from the table shaking her head. Food was OK but wish I’d researched more and gone to a proper Irish pub instead.

Very nice ambiance but the noise level was extremely loud. We could not have a conversation without screaming at each other. Food was very good, but the noise is the reason I would not visit again.
Hi Yvonne, Thank you for the review and feedback. Our apologies for the noise level. We've shared your review with management, so we can work on making adjustments. We're glad you enjoyed the ambiance and good, and we hope you'll give us another chance in the future. Apologies again, Grace
Server was rushed, brought one wrong order.
Not particularity friendly or caring.
Beef stew had practically no meat in it.
Fish and chips good.
Noise level very loud.
Hello- Thank you for providing us with additional information about your visit. Our apologies again. Grace
We went for our 10 year anniversary and had been here prior. Loved it the first time. This time was slightly disappointing. The food was great. Service was good. A party of about 20-25 people came in and just sat themselves. Pushed tables together and when asked by a server if they got permission, they said yes and continued what they were doing with no regard to anyone else in the restaurant. The server took their word for it and let them continue on. It got loud fast. People were so close to us, even standing right next to us having their own conversation, almost leaning up against us while we were trying to enjoy our night. Our server had a hard time getting by them to bring our food or get our next drink request. We enjoyed the food, but the staff had no control of that party or thought of the other patrons trying to enjoy their dinners. We weren't the only table upset by this either.

The staff was awesome! Very accommodating. Went there for a veggie burger which was homemade but very bland.

Service wasnt the best. Guinness onion soup was delicious!! Quesadillas were average but the beef tips and beef stew 👌🏼👌🏼

Went before a show and had a great dinner. The mixed drinks were very good, it was loud but that’s was to be expected. It didn’t ruin the experience.
Hi Shayne, Thank you so much for the review! We're so glad you enjoyed visiting MJ O'Connor's before attending a show, and we hope to see you again sometime soon. Best, Grace
First time diner and I was pleasantly surprised w/ the overall quality of the experience, especially the food quality. Other than being really loud, no negatives. Hostess seated us immediately even though we were early for our reservation and the whole party had not yet arrived, which was greatly appreciated. On both quality and quantity food & drink are good value.
Hi Jeffrey, We're so glad you were pleasantly surprised by the experience! Thank you so much for the review. We're glad the hostess took care of you and that you enjoyed the food, space, and service. Our apologies for the noise. We hope you'll visit us again sometime soon! Best, Grace
I love MJs! At my most recent visit to the restaurant, I got the shrimp pasta special (something along the lines of Shrimp Fra Davalio) and it was exceptional! That paired with the Raspberry Limoncello Prosecco beverage made for an excellent meal. Thank you!
Hello- Thank you so much! We're so glad you enjoyed the pasta special, and of course, the Raspberry Limoncello Prosecco cocktail. We hope to see you again sometime soon. Best, Grace
Exceptionally helpful service for family and large groups. Loud bar atmosphere, but the kids and family had fun.
Hello- We're so happy to hear this! Thank you so much for the kind review. We're glad your family enjoyed visiting us, and we hope you'll visit us again sometime soon. Best, Grace
Way too noisy for conversation at a table. It will not be our first choice for a quick after-work meal.
Hello- Thank you for the review and feedback. We apologize for the volume and have shared your review with management so we can work to make the necessary improvements. We hope you'll give us another chance in the future! Best, Grace
Nice spot for dinner before the theater, good music and a good crowd.
It was really nice, it isn’t too crowded the food was served really quick and it tasted great :). Would recommend
It took quite a while after we were seated for anyone to come over to our table for even water. However, once our server come the service was fast and she was great! Drinks were awesome and the food was wonderful! We will be going back!
Terrible Shepherd’s Pie! Waitress could bother to clear dishes. Burnt kids grilled cheese.
We had reserved a table for 8pm and had requested a high table near a TV. It also asked if there was an occasion we were celebrating and we were celebrating my husband's birthday so said so when booking. Upon entry the lady who was at the desk looked for our booking and pointed towards the back and and said we are through the back, go to the bottom. So she could have taken us along not having been there before but we made our way through. It didn't seem very clear where we were to go but we found someone who we asked again about our table. Our table wasn't really ready as she asked did we definately want to sit at a high table, if so, was the one nearest to us at the time ok, which wasn't near a TV and they did have plenty around. Anyways, I'm only mentioning this as it didn't really make us feel welcome and my husband was a bit annoyed that he wanted to leave. Server was nice enough but didn't smile alot. Husband had a burger, plus cheese & bacon for $17 and I had the Chicken Caesar salad for $18. They were both nice but not worth the money in my opinion. Definately not the salad. We were in, out and back in the hotel room (Plaza) in an hour. I just didn't think the experience was nice and that is why I wouldn't recommend it. They ask if your celebrating but for no reason so it seems. I'm not saying this expecting a free meal or drink of any kind, but awknowledgement or at least have our table ready would have been nice. We were also sent towards the back of the bar (opposite Maggianos) which was lacking in atmosphere in comparison to the front (Plaza side).
Made a reservation for two. Were seated basically on top of coat racks. Ordered a Makers Mark Mule. It came in a tall water glass not a mule. It tasted like straight bourbon over ice. I didn’t taste the ginger beer nor did it have the fizz it should. We both ordered the shepherds pie. It was fine.
Nothing special. Given location and nearby theatres, would expect a better food. The hostess was not pleasant, seemed annoyed that people were coming in. Attentive service did not exist. Food OK. Likely pick another place next time.
Mj o'connor is a "known" quantity for us. Sorry to see curry sauce has left the menu! Mac & cheese was great tho.
Soups were very good! Friendly bartenders. Meal was ok.
Location is good they needed more help in dining area New Year's Eve .Waitress was good ! She just had several tables to cover.
We had reservations here prior to seeing Blue Man Group. They tried to cram us into a 4 top when we were a party of 5, three were tall guys. The waitress was flat and the food was either cold or over cooked. Disappointing at best
La soupe à l’ognon était parfaite!!!!
Hostess was rude, after trying to make 5 of us sit at a four top even though many tables were open and we had a reservation. She did add a two top to make a larger table but only after rolling her eyes at my request. Waitress was very good, food pretty good.
Was looking forward to dining at M.J. Connors but unfortunately was somewhat disappointed. Have been in many Irish Pubs before ( including in Ireland) and frankly didn’t really get the pub vibe here. Service was okay as was the food but neither were exceptional. I know there are many other Irish Pubs in Boston and next time I’ll try another.
We went here before seeing a show at the Shubert Theater. We made a reservation but were running late so I called and the staff was very understanding and accommodating and saved our table for us. The service was fast and the food delicious!
Pretty much the most mediocre food ever. Lobster way over cooked on the watery lobster Mac and cheese. Server working hard but too many tables to keep up and lots of waiting.
First time at M.J. O'Connor's in years and needless to say, my Husband and I will not be back anytime soon. We ordered a lot of different appetizers and entrees and the Server forgot to place one of the items and I had to ask multiple times for more mustard - At $100.00 with only one alcoholic drink, you're better off going to one of the better restaurants nearby - that way you will be guaranteed better service.
There for Thanksgiving our waitress was amazing!
Fantastic food with phenomenal server (she recommended both beer and my entree (must put chicken curry back on the menu!!). Had a great corner spot that was moderate in a lovey atmosphere.
We were a group of six on our way to the theatre. Our server was attentive and responsive. I had the fish and chips and the dish was fantastic as was the Kentucky sidecar!
We are in Boston for the weekend we stopped by MJ’s after not being treated well at the Four Seasons Hotel bar. What a gem! Recently remodelled MJ’s has a great atmosphere. Felt welcomed the moment we walked in. The staff and manager were excellent and attentive. Especially our server, Jess. We ordered the fish and chips and two glasses of rose wine. The fish and chips were perfect and delicious and the rose was really good. Both were very good value for being In the heart of Boston. We will definitely be back next time we are in Boston.
Service was terribly slow and one of the worst I have ever experienced. Although the food was good I would not go back.
Guinness onion soup and beer was excellent. Highly recommend. Prompt service as well.
I met some friends for dinner here last week. The service was pretty good and the food was tasty. There was a nice selection of beers but not overwhelmingly large. For dinner, I had a reuben which is my favorite sandwich I have had 100's of times. The reuben was good but not tons of meat. For $15, I think they could have provided a bigger sandwich. The fries were good.
The server was friendly and timely.
I think the prices are high for what you get, and I realize I was eating in downtown Boston.
Overall, a nice place to grab a bite and a beer or two before a concert of theatre.
Food was subpar and atmosphere was sparse and uncomfortable.
We were staying at Boston Park Plaza hotel and this restaurant was very close and much more reasonably priced than the hotel restaurant. We visited this restaurant 3 times during our stay. Everything was very good - I did feel the service could have been better. I do not blame the waitresses they were trying to keep up with the inside and outside. I think they need to hire more help.
Enjoyed my return visit to mJ O’Connor. I have visited each time I’m in the city over past few years.
Young guy from Ireland welcomed me. Very welcoming and ensured I was seated and being looked after. Nice to hear a voice from home.
Only downside was length of time it took to have food order taken.
Will however return next time I am in Boston.
