MJ's was a great alternative to the hotel restaurant we were staying in. The New England clam chowder was the best I've ever had, and that includes having lived in Newport, RI for several years in the past. The roasted chicken and shepherd's pie were also quite delicious.
We picked this restaurant because it was close to our hotel. We will go back next time we are in Boston because of the great food and service.
Great service and food. Will definitely return.
We had such a great time at MJ O’Connors. The staff looked after us, especially Madi the server and Jeff the manager. They made us feel welcome and so we came back the next day! Just what was needed after a day of walking around Boston, good food and serious nightcaps!
Veille de la St-Patrick, outre les clients qui sont costumés, pas de grand déploiement dans l’établissement.
Food was delicious! Service was fantastic, got us in and out in plenty of time to catch our show but didn't rush us.
Incredibly loud, very hard to have a conservation without yelling to the person right next to you, and it was only a Thursday night. This would be a very fun place to hang out and watch sporting events.
Visiting from the UK. Great Chowder! Irish coffee not so good, arrived Luke warm and rather flat like a regular coffee. Just a tip!!Needs to be topped with a head of full cream, unstaired to be authentic! I have had many an authentic Irish coffee in many Parts of Ireland so know what to expect.
Good food and service very reasonably priced
Went here for a special occasion to get a casual bite to eat. The food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. The service was great and the atmosphere was easy going yet just busy enough to feel like it was a popular spot. Highly Recommend!
Everything was great!
Food was great but very over priced
Good food, good service, cold beer
Nothing special here. There weren't many tables occupied and the service was still very slow. I ordered the beef stew and a black and tan. The stew was fine, but the beer tasted watered down. Whatever stout and lager they're using, they're not good. There are a number of restaurants in the area that are similarly priced. I'd try one of the others.
Good food for a quick bite to eat
It was good food but server was not responsive. Took so long to get things. She’d disappear for 20 min at a time. Somehow dessert took longer than dinner to arrive.
MJ O'Connor's was just that - an Irish pub. Food was good, service decent, but not really a date night vibe. My husband and I made the mistake of trying it out for a date, not realizing it was an Irish pub - whoops! Other than that, we did enjoy the food we got (nachos, clam chowder, beef stew, and flatbread).
Dined here with my husband and two kids, ages 18 and 20. We all agreed the chicken tenders were the best we've ever had.
Went before a show at the park plaza. Convenient location and nice decor inside. Food was typical Irish pub style which worked well with the kids (18,16,11). A little pricey but have to expect that in back bay Boston
The food was good and like the location. Made reservations and was seated right away.
Typical bar food. Food is ok not bad not great. Waitress was good but not there towards the end when we needed out bill. There were some very loud people yelling to speak to each other.
The restaurant had a very comfortable vibe to it. We were able to converse without shouting at each other, but there was a quality hum-drum from the other guests.
Probably not completely authentic irish, but still a great restaurant.
Food was very good, a little pricey, but very good! Ambiance is nice and the service was good too! Friendly and warm staff and environment.
2nd time here and the food was once again delicious. Love the ambiance with the old beams and Irish charm. Perfect spot to hit before a show. Reservation worked very well as we got right in were eating within 15 minutes of arrival.
Second visit to MJO's in a week and it was like a sketch from monty python, everything we asked for on the menu was met by "it's off , we have run out" We eventually settled for the Irish stew, which was thankfully still on. It was very nice but could have done with more lumps of beef in it . The wait staff were courteous and apologetic and the lack of menu didn't ruin the night but the management need to ask themselves hard questions as to why they allowed the food to run out.If this had been our first visit, it probably would have been our last but having been before I know they can do better
Staying at Boston Park Plaza, and attending Huntington Theater that evening, we had a reservation. Seated in a corner without a waitress for 15 minutes, when a hipper couple sat next to us, the waitress immediately came over to them. We left and went across the street to Maggiano's, without a reservation. They were polite and accommodating. The food and service were exceptional. That's where we will eat again and again.
Would never recommend MJ O'Connors. I had to rate food, service and ambiance, but there wasn't any.
Fast service, perhaps a little too fast as they served our mains before we had finished our starters, although I now understand this is a trait in all the bar dining in Boston. Lesson learnt don't order starters, other lessons learnt are if you want another beer or a desert ask for it early or they will assume you have finished and present the bill. Overall a good,if a little rushed experience
Very good food in relaxed surroundings..Try the Salmon and Lobster Special!
Due to its location I thought it would have been a little more upscale. Looked very tired. Burger was good however and so was so was the beers.
Was our last night in town and was looking for a nice place to eat with a good variety in menu. To pricy for what you got.
Server was preoccupied even though there were not an abundance of full tables. She brought our food and drinks when it was convenient for her. Unfortunate . My experience at another location was phenomenal.
Excellent service by our very attentive server! Food came out quickly and was great. The loud bar crowd made it hard for us (sitting at a nearby table in the dining room) to talk without yelling, so not the best place for a quiet dinner. But it's a fun spot!
Out of seven of us, two had credible reasons for not liking their dinner. Tacos very bland with no spice to it al all, and salmon overcooked. Wait staff were very nice and helpful, especially to the two children with us.
They had no record of our reservation but seated us in a timely manner.
I would only go back if it were just for drinks and appetizers.
When in the city of the most Irish outside of Ireland I expected a selection of Irish pints to choose from - they had 2: Guinness & Smithwicks. 'Nuff said.
Food was FANTASTIC. Had the Glazed Pork Chop, girlfriend had the Buffalo Mac & Cheese (we tried each other's) both were absolutely delicious. Beyond expectations. Medium crowd and food was out quick.
It was fine. Not great. Food underseasoned. What I would expect in a pub. Service was very good.
The food was mediocre at best. Service was lacking. Our server was not attentive at all and we had to ask another server to get our server for us. This is not a place that I would run back to anytime soon if in the Theater district again.
Great food and drinks. Perfect spot to hang out in a group or on a casual date.
It was not great. We were a small group of friends who went for an after show dinner. I ordered a dish on daily specials menu that given to us. They then brought different dish. I said it was not what I ordered. They bought a different daily specials menu. Obviously they had given us an old one the first time. By the time I got my meal all the others had finished and were ready to leave. The loud drinking crowd around us made conversation difficult. One the others in our found their meal “not good” but did not send it back. The conclusion is – go there to drink – but don’t have expectations on the food – which is not cheap…. So I
My boyfriend and I were in the city for the weekend and went here on Friday night for drinks and appetizers. We'd both been there before for drinks with friends and enjoyed it. This time we sat at the bar and service was great. Food was good and the staff was nice. However, we returned on Sunday for brunch and received a completely different experience. We sat at a table rather than the bar this time. The waitress was not very attentive. She took our order, dropped off our food, and checked in on us once. It wasn't even crowded when we were there - only a handful of other people for two waitresses. We definitely would have ordered more drinks if she had checked in with us more. We ate in about 40 minutes and then waited another 30 minutes before finally having to find her to get our bill. She wasn't busy with other customers but rather was standing and chatting with the other staff. She then brought out bill and forgot the pen. Overall, we were really unsatisfied with the experience we had on Sunday.
Four of us came for dinner before a comedy show and it was excellent. The place is pretty big so it didn't feel crowded though there were plenty of people. Had the Guinness Beef Stew, French martini for dinner then bread pudding and Nutty Irishman for dessert. They had to roll us out. Food was excellent, server too!! Highly recommend!!
