About Mizuno Japanese Restaurant
Mizuno Japanese Restaurant is a family-run business that first opened in 1996. Located in Virginia Beach, Mizuno is embedded in a seafood hotspot, only 25 miles south of the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay, and 158 miles south of Hatteras, North Carolina. Chef-owner Wataru Mizuno feels blessed to be a sushi chef in a culinary trifecta like Virginia Beach. Mizuno and his team take advantage of the restaurant's access to local sources by artfully composing daily specials that feature fresh shrimp, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, flounder, blue crabs and oysters, to name a few. The hook's simple. Mizuno resists complicated sauces and excessive ingredients. Instead, he flavors scallops from the world famous Chesapeake Bay, adding nothing more, at times, than a dash of citrus and a pinch of sea salt. Wataru Mizuno: Chef/Owner Born in Japan, Wataru Mizuno received his formal training in Tokyo, as an apprentice under master Teruo Sato.

Mizuno Japanese Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Reserved 2 seats at the sushi bar for my wife’s birthday. We were later joined by 2 more and they had no problem accommodating us. Our server Julia was extremely helpful with the menu and very attentive. Japanese beer selection had the usual favorites and quite a selection! We were easily able to carry on a conversation between the four of us at and around the corner of the bar. The food was out of this world! Their fresh wasabi was a treat and all of the sushi and rolls were fresh and delicious. Also had the hot and sour soup which was a treat on a chilly night. As was the hot saki. Can’t wait to go back!
Mizuno was an wonderful experience for me and my boyfriend. We were looking for a good sushi place while vacationing in Virginia Beach, and I'm so glad we found Mizuno! The food was outstanding. I started off with a seaweed salad, which was very unique and was unlike any I've ever had before. We each got an exotic roll, one which had steak on it and was phenomenal! The service was also great, our server was very attentive and sweet. I cant' wait to visit again.
Second visit for these out-of-towners. Same wonderful quality food as we remembered. We made a point of having the fabulous dumplings again, and they were still blissful. Because we were out-of-town visitors, we got lost looking for the restaurant, the woman who answered the phone kindly talked us in. Then, she was concerned that we might have been confused, and phoned back to make sure we were ok! Now that is customer service. Will definitely put this on our must-do list for our next visit. It's not cheap, but the food, service, and kind people are definitely worth it.
Our experience at Mizuno was once again a wonderful one as expected. We met family members for an 'after the holiday' get together to enjoy some great food and company. Beverly provided us with one of her signature beverages and Waturu and his team delivered once agin the best sushi in town. We even picked up quite a bit to go and surprised the chefs and servers at Coastal Grill since they too were extremely busy and needed a holiday treat! They too said it was AMAZING!
Mizuno's is reliably excellent. The sushi and sashimi are superb. I highly recommend this restaurant to all sushi lovers. The owner/chef is Japanese trained and it clearly shows in the beautiful, fresh and delicately conceived dishes. There is a wonderful cocktail lounge as well with creative libations you will not find anywhere else in our area.
We went here for dinner on a long weekend in VA Beach. It was some of the best sushi I've had. Very fresh. Some innovative rolls that still allowed the fish to shine. All in all, very impressed. The Crispy Maguro roll was so good we almost ordered one for dessert but we were too full!
I cannot completely fill out this form as we were unable to attend our date because OpenTable schedules a reservation when the restaurant was not open so we showed up at the restaurant and it was closed very frustrating as we've been trying Four weeks and finally had the opportunity and we were unable to attend because the restaurant was closed
Mizuno was a special treat on our trip to the VA beach area. Food was good although im still undecided as to whether the quality was worth the price. Maybe we're just spoiled for excellent sushi at less cost in the DC area?
Nice ambiance. Excellent wine list although would be nice if more wines were available by the glass.
We ate sushi here on 4/8/16. Rolls were good but were the usual; nothing creative. Wine was ok but nothing special and no beers on tap. We read reviews on OT about the prices but weren't prepared for the sticker shock. We did order soft shell crab which was market price and we should have asked the price. Three rolls, and appetizer and 3 glasses of wine (quartinos) was pushing $150. Service was good and staff was friendly. Wouldn't be a priority to come back.
