Mizu Steakhouse - Covington
Mizu Steakhouse offers a variety of libations to pair with meals. It provides outdoor seating and take-out service.
We made a reservation ahead of time, noting it was a special occasion, birthday celebration, and after even mentioning happy birthday for our cheers, in front of the server, it still wasn’t recognized, or noted by our server in anyway. After about 20, of waiting in the corner we were stuffed into we were asked if we had been helped, and finally had our drink order taken. Not a very pleasant experience on the service side, however, the food was delicious.
We went to Mizu a 13 year old's birthday. It was entertaining, the chef was funny, the food was pretty good. Overall it was an average experience. For $500. If the table were cleaner, condiments at the table changed more often (the soy sauce bottle was grimy, pepper had more old pepper crusted at the top of the bottle then usable pepper at the bottom, salt had old grains of rice as a cheap way to keep it longer), and the chef better at actually cooking, it could have been a great experience.
For the entertainment we might consider going back only for a rare occasion, but for the price it was marginally worth it.
We had a reservation at 6:30 and were seated immediately but proceeded to sit for 30 minutes at our table waiting for our server. Our server was new and very flustered. He was very very kind and we felt bad for the lack of training he had clearly had. Our chef was late to the table and said they had called him back to work after an earlier shift. We came in to celebrate my Moms birthday and half our group had never been to this type of restaurant before. Our chef was clearly tired and not quite as entertaining as they normally are. Our food was served out of order but all in all our food was very good.
We didn’t have anyone come clear plates or drinks and had to go get chopsticks ourselves. We weren’t offered dessert in spite of it being a birthday celebration and we had to ask for dessert menus at the same time they handed us our bill.
It was almost a 3 hour experience from start to finish which is far too long as we are usually there about an hour and half.
For almost $400 you should expect top notch service and we were severely disappointed. I will never recommend that location to anyone, nor will I go back. Good food isn’t an excuse for poor service.
Didn’t honor reservation, only had two chefs for the night and didn’t have any space at the grills. Ruined our anniversary dinner as we got a baby sitter for nothing. Ended up getting something quick to eat and heading home.
It was just ok, we have had better times there. We just paid over 100 and couldn't get service for drinks.
Not the best showing for Mizu. We have enjoyed Mizu in the past. The chefs are entertaining, the food is delicious. But this time was tough. We had a reservation for 5:30 and weren’t seated until 6pm. We were told some appetizers would be comped since we had to wait quite a long time, but even though the server was told, the bill came with no discounts. The exhaust fan at our table wasn’t working so we were smoked out during the cooking of the meal. While the food was enjoyable as usual, the eating of the meal was not. The whole restaurant was very smoky and oily.
In laws were in town
We had reservations for six. I understand needing the whole part there, but they make quite a deal about it. The urgency of this seems at odds with them having you wait 45 minutes for your chef to arrive. Perhaps it was just the corner we were in, but when the HVAC kicked on, it blew quite the breeze through our area. One of our group was stuck trying to brush her hair out of the way repeatedly. It lasted around 15 minutes, so the concern was not raised to staff (no staff came by during this time anyway). Pricing is generally fine, but $3 for hot water and tea bag seemed excessive. I should have just gone with the $5 hot sake. The chef was entertaining enough, but not so impressive with even portions. We saw another table have a cute birthday celebration. Our reservations noted it was for a birthday and then it was mentioned to the chef, but nothing came...perhaps that is an extra cost.
We had a very nice waiter and chef. The food was tasty. If there are a lot of people it can get noisy. Since some of the table grill Japanese restaurants have left the area, this was a pleasant replacement.
Just another great experience. The food is great, service is exceptional and the show the chef puts on is outstanding
Always entertaining and staff is friendly. Good food.
I made reservations on Valentine's day. I found the restaurant unprepared to handle the crowd. Even with reservations. I had an 8pm reservation. I arrived 20 minutes early. I wasn't seated until 8:45pm. The servers where cordial, but overwhelmed. I had to ask twice to get place settings. After being seated we had to wait quite awhile again for orders then the teppenyaki chef. The chef was new and rushed. Our vegetables where overcooked, the yakisoba had too much soy sauce, and my scallops where rubbery. The chef did put on a good show, and my steak was perfect. This restaurants menu is overpriced, but usually the food is good, the chef is fun to watch and the atmosphere is inviting. This night, they just weren't prepared to handle the crowd. They must have been understaffed as the hostess was also clearing tables. I am not sure I will return. I spent $150 and felt let down.
It was very busy with long wait time but it’s understandable because it’s Valentines
Had to wait a little with a reservation, but it was Valentines Day so understandable. But after we got seated the chef we had was very entertaining and the food was excellent Will definitely go back again. Recommend making reservations it looks like it's crowded daily.
Lot of fun, always good time sitting around the hibatchi table watching the chefs do their thing - our guy was pretty good, had the patter down, didn't miss a trick - food was good. Went on a busy Valentines dinner and they kept up pretty good.
Service was abysmal, ordered sushi for an appetizer and took over 1.5 hours to get service. Waitress had to retake our orders over seven times and still could not get them correct. A simple water order took an hour to reach my party.
They then had the audacity to mention to the other three folks sitting at our table that because they did not reserve their seats, it was why service was horrible.
After finally hitting a breaking point and trying to speak to a manager, it was made clear, they had zero interest in actually assisting us with our problems. The manager was consistently trying to undermine my complaints and did very little to help us. Even after i brought up the fact it had been 1.5 hours since we arrived and people who came behind us were already being cooked for and servered their food.
We had a great time! It was a mismatched group of couples. They had been waiting for a little while but the locals next to us said it was worth the wait (which we didn’t mind anyways as we were there to unwind and had nothing but time before the movies...) Our chef was unexpectedly comedic, and really made it a fun experience. The food was delicious. We’ll be back for round 2 -thanks!
We will return again. Enjoyed the atmosphere, food and chef show....little expensive but for the uniqueness I understand paying a little more.
Mizu’s was so fun and so good! It is well worth the price! We had sushi and the grill and we will be back again.
Super fun with great food. Bring the family!!!!!!!
The food was very good and the cook was funny and entertaining.
The service was very poor; I ended up getting up to refill our water and get a refill on a beverage. The food was typical and way over priced. The chef was OK; nothing special.
Would not recommend this to anyone.
Great show with an excellent meal! Just go expecting to spend some time there!
Went on NYE, asked for a glass of champagne, they didn't have champagne by the glass, only by the bottle & that was $100. It's NYE, why do you not have champagne by the glass!! Our appetizer arrived AFTER we got the bill. Even though we had a reservation, we were seated 30 min later. Not a good experience.
The overall experience was great for New Years Eve dinner. The only negatives were that the waitress never came to ask if I wanted a refill my drink and I was out of soda 3/4 way through the meal. The other think was that the chef that cooked for us was great at cooking the meal but not as entertaining as some of the other chefs in the restaurant and with teppanyaki that is part of the reason why you go.
Our chef and server were both great. They made our Christmas Eve dinner special. It was a little noisy but the place was packed so it was expected! We will be back soon!
Have been a couple times now and have had a great experience each time!!
Quiet night- not crowded. Three adults and two grandsons 8&6. Boys got a kick out of the chef and the interaction. More than enough food but the meals a little pricy. Great place for a special occasion
We had a great time, only complaint is that the edamame was over salted and the yakisoba noodles were very salty.
Loved our cook, he was so entertaining. Wish service was a bit quicker.
The Japanese style grill chef was really fun and put on a good interactive show. The dipping sauce was really good, but I was a bit disappointed with the fried rice. It seemed to be a bit on the dry side and missing something. For the price, I was expecting a good show and excellent food, but I found the food to be only decent. Overall it was a fun experience with family and friends as an early Christmas dinner, but it seems like it could have been better for the price.
My husband wanted to take my out so I had a different steakhouse in mind. But he suggested we try this. I was bummed. But after going there, I’m so glad we did!! The food was amazing! The service was phenomenal. They even asked if we wanted the whole grill to ourselves and of course we said yes. It was so nice to not feel rushed or crowded. I went back two days later to get food to go because it was that delicious! Check it out!
Had friends in from out of town, and they were intent on having sushi. Sushi and saki were perfect!
I absolutley love this place. On a night we would have usually stayed home because the Huskey game was on we were able to go to a nice dinner with a large TV with the game on. Win Win!!
Descent steakhouse. A little over priced for the quality and service. Was a little leery about the health code rating of “good.” The chef did a OK, and gave descent entertainment. We did tell them it was our daughters Birthday, but nothing that special came out of it. Otherwise, the service was good and quick. Food tasted good as well. We did come in at 5pm on a Wednesday so the place was barren.
I do love Japanese Steakhouses! This one was good, but I was disappointed with a few things. We sat kinda close to the door and it was FREEZING cold. We literally had our jackets on the whole time & had a hard time enjoying it because we were so CD every time the door would open. We were told they had Coke products but definitely not, it was Pepsi. Had I known this I would've just ordered water. Another thing that. Otbered me was the ramiken for sauces. I could not poor the "yum yum sauce" on my food because the steak sauce would've poured as well sense it was combined. The portion size of the rice and vegetables were kinda small. We were the last to be served so we got less than everyone else. I normally go home with leftovers which makes me feel a little better for the price, but this time I had none. Lastly, this one is just a preference, I love bean sprouts which is normally what you get at a Japanese Steakhouse, but instead there were carrots.
Even with a reservation, we had to wait an hour to be seated. We asked to wait in the bar where we were then ignored by the bartender and any servers. Food was okay but overpriced for the experience. I would not recommend and this used to be our favorite place, too. Time to find a new place.
The restaurant is filthy!
Not to make it big of a deal but There was a curly hair on my steak . my sister said it might be just a hair that curled up because of the heat . who knows really... But in the end i ended up not eating my food .
