Mitchell's Steakhouse - Columbus Polaris Ratings and Reviews
I'm typically against New Year's Eve dining as it often results in a below average experience but Mitchell's exceeded my expectations. The prices were fair and on par with a top steakhouse. I actually found them more reasonable than a recent trip to Smith & Wollensky. Bottle of wine, two steaks, and a shared side for about $160 before tip. Our steaks were prepared perfectly to temperature and the side was easily enough for two people. Enjoyed the experience and we will definitely return to Mitchell's for steak cravings in the future.
First , I have a mixed review. To be fair the steak was very very good. The bread , French onion soup, coffee were very good as well. Where the marked was missed was on the chop chop salad and the baked potato. For a $9 salad the greens should be the crispest and greenest salad. Basically I could of got bagged lettuce for .99 and been the same. Again for a baked potato at $8 it should of been a good size potato. The sea salt was a good touch though.
Downtown is a better location. The room we were in had a fire place that didn't work. They put water softener salt on the side walk and made it harder to walk that if it was iced! The hat check person didn't have change for a tip--took 5 minutes to get--gave her a $5 tip and she never thanked me.
The food is good--no doubt about that!
The first not bad thing is the confusion regarding Cameron Mitchell gift cards. 3 Out the 4 Mitchell gift cards were not accepted at this “ cameron Mitchell” restaurant. It’s deceptive. If they are not accepted take his name off the restaurant or the gift card. We weren’t the only table that had gift card issues.
Overall: Food quality not near what we're accustomed to... I've been taking my family (6 of us) to Mitchell's for the past five Christmases - Every year since the restaurant started taking reservations for Christmas Day. We also eat at Mitchell's each year for our anniversary & our birthdays. This was by far the lowest quality food and the lowest customer service we've ever experienced - I am more than happy to pay the high menu prices so long as there is also high quality food & service, but that wasn't the case this time. It was Christmas, so everyone tried to remain positive while there, but we were all truly disappointed...
Didn't start off well - the hostesses were not very professional, didn't ask to take our coats, however asked everyone following us. Daughter did check the coats, we still tipped them.
Made my reservation over a week ago, had to wait over 20 minutes to get seated - guessing they sat some folks ahead of us without reservations. Reservations for a reason.
Service from our waiter was fine - until he packaged the food. He put all the filets together - never did that before. Guess they are cutting back on containers?
Not a great experience.
Mitchell's is always hit and miss, wish it hit the mark more often.
Overpriced and over served. We were having dinner with friends and we had not been to the restaurant before. Looking forward to a holiday dinner. The waitress was nice, but we felt pushed. Wanted to sit a talk a bit, but felt like we had to order. Table was cluttered with too many plates/glasses. Menu A la Cart, and waitress could have explained that the side dishes could be shared, but instead we ordered duplicate dishes, and too much food. Side dishes came out cold, and had to go back.
We were constantly interrupted by the wait staff, pretty annoying. Won't be going back. Better steakhouses, were the food is just as good, and much more relaxed .... :(
Only our second visit to Mitchell's as we are very regular visitors to another fine restaurant in close proximity to Mitchell's Polaris. Really disappointed from the beginning - had a reservation and we were early so we had a nice visit in the bar. When led to our table, it was at the back of the room close to the kitchen where servers were coming and going at a rapid pace. They offered to close the curtains at which point I heard servers audibly complaining..."great now that makes our job harder". Apparently they thought I could not hear them. We were fairly quickly set up at a far nicer table in a private corner. Then the debate began on who our waiter would be; there were 2 who came and both claimed they were our servers. We didn't really care, we just wanted one. We ended up with the gentleman who did a fair job but not great. Food was pretty good and so were the drinks - it just wasn't the smooth, professional experience that we regularly enjoy elsewhere. So we likely won't be back. Overall, they appeared to be quite busy and at full capacity. Hopefully others had a better experience. To top it off, we found out they don't accept Cameron's gift cards any longer since they were SOLD to some other company nine years ago.
Thanksgiving dinner. Food was fine. Thanksgiving meal was okay. The tipping point, though, was our server. No matter what we ordered, there was always an up-sell. Strip? Get dry-aged, bone-in. Need a sauce? Coffee? Try a French press! It was like car shopping while dining.
The endless decline of this restaurant is really sad. We used to eat here monthly, but as the service and food has grown increasingly disappointing, we seldom consider it anymore. We had a server who was very attentive and well intentioned, yet clearly wasn't trained properly. The food was poorly prepared. There appeared to be no management present. I hope whomever purchases Mitchell's next returns it to its former status.
We have visited the location downtown and loved it. Everything about the experience was excellent. So we figured the location by Polaris, where we live, would be equally as great. Unfortunately, that simply wasn't the case. While it was ok, it simply wasn't what was expected and left a lot to be desired.
The steak was very good, the sides and appetizers were good, but the 'Iced Seafood Tower for Two', which I chose as my entree to satisfy my seafood love, was horrendous. I don't know if the king crab and lobster talks were cooked and then placed in water to cool or were stored in water, but they were waterlogged. I don't know how to describe it, except to say that they were flavor less and I was literally squeezing water from each piece before trying them. Also, the oysters were dreadful. Ugh. So disappointed, especially at $60.
We celebrated my husband's 63rd birthday. We had a nice dinner, dessert and drinks and fun talking about the couple of trips we would be taking in 2018. I thought ahead and went to Giant Eagle to purchase gift cards for Cameron Mitchell's to use for the evening, as well as getting our fuel perks. We received the bill and thinking we were at a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant, I put the gift cards with the bill. Our server picked up the waiter's wallet and walked away. The manager came over a couple of minutes later and said they could not accept the gift cards because they are not a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant - they are "Mitchell's Steakhouse" and he said it has happened before with others and did apologize. I said ok and paid with a different method. I thought we were going to a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant - I guess that is what I get for thinking. Yes, it was my fault, but we ended up having a nice evening, in spite of the mix-up, anyway. Thank you!
The server was chewing gum and treated us as if we were a problem, I had to ask for a drink she did not offer. The steaks came out over done but we just ate them to get on our way. Im very disappointed for what we pay there I expected much better table and plate presentation.
A fabulous dining experience! Our server wss delightfulband well versed on the menu items, recommending the bone marrow butter ( we would not have tried it except for her stellar recommendation and it is delicious!) The food was nicely plated and excellent! The chop salad with house viniagrette surprised with sweet corn and figs, the bread was wonderfully crusty and the steak was so tender we did not use the steak knives. Also, best creme brulee ever! We will definitely becreturning soon andcrecommending it to friends.
