Mitchell's Steakhouse - Columbus Downtown Ratings and Reviews
I am a bit more of a snob than most when it comes to food. When i am dining out and paying a higher price for a dinner my expectations are that i am going to get a meal that warrants the cost. I don’t mind paying for a great meal. In fact if the meal blows me away i feel good as i pay my bill.
This meal was not one of those meals. I say this meal was middle of the road and the pricing is more about the show and glamour of the restaurant than the actual food they serve.
What a wonderful memorable dining experience. Service and food top notch. Our server went above and beyond to make our Anniversary Spectacular. Highly recommend shrimp cocktail, tuna poke, beet salad. My husband chose the steak. Phenomenal food.
Good food here. Shrimp scampi was delicious, and the little loaves of sourdough are SO good. Not too crusty, just right. My Cosmo was done just right, with fresh lime juice. Husband's steak was a good portion, cooked perfectly. Waiter was perfect in level of attentiveness. It is expensive so expect $100 per person if you have a couple cocktails. Good place for special evening.
Went here for dinner before going to the Ohio Theater. AFter reading the mixed reviews our expectations were not very high, but we were pleasantly surprised that the food and service were both very good. Our appetizers and steak were all excellent. The mixed drink and wine were good and reasonably priced for what they were. Desserts were good as well. No complaints and we would return.
We loved Mitchell's but the last visit was very disappointing. All started well as they had one of our favorite wines but quickly went downhill. The tune poke appetizer was very good. A matter of fact my wife order another for dinner. The dinner tuna poke tasted totally different and was pretty bad. Soup was warm at best and my medium rare 10 oz filet was medium well and didn't look any bigger than the 7oz filet. Not once did our waiter ask how our food was. For a $220 dinner it wasn't as good as a day to day steak house. This is disappointing because we loved to go here on play nights in the past. Not again
When it was owned by Cameron Mitchell it was a premier establishment. Things have slipped slightly under Ruth's Chris. Our biggest problem was our server. He asked if we had time constraints and we said we did not. But wow it was ridiculous. We sat for a long time after finishing our salads and we never saw our server anywhere in the place. Finally asked someone else to find him and our entrees. Entrees showed up seconds after asking but served by someone else. Potatoes did not arrive and when they finally did they were cold. Had them replaced but too late by then. Server showed up during cold potato problem which was resolved by the manager who happened by making rounds. Only left a 10% tip and wanted to tell server why but of course couldn't find him. Too many other great restaurants in town to repeat this one.
Our server Tyler was AMAZING...gave us great recommendations. My lobster tail was a total disappointment, no flavor, poor texture and just wasn't right. Tyler immediately rectified by involving the manager who quickly came to the table and explained that due to the lobster tail being a warm water lobster the texture and overall taste is not like cold water lobster and i would merely be getting the same but they would be happy to provide another. He did suggested the Scallops and a good suggestion it was!
I would return because the manager handled the situation correctly, he recognized that by the time i got my second entree my husband had finished his meal and i was now eating by myself, not a good feeling when you're spending 200-250 for two people and the excitement was gone.
He didn't charge us for the Scallops and when they found out it was my husbands birthday, they offered complimentary dessert. This could have easily turned into a poor dining experience, but they recovered and understood the overall experience of the customer.
Kudos to the Manager, he was on top of things!
