Mitchell's Fish Market - Tampa Ratings and Reviews
Pre-Show (Andre Bocelli concert) dinner on Valentine's Day. Greeted quickly and politely at the door. Waitress Corina was courteous and prompt. Ordered the Perfect Pair (Stuffed Lobster and Shrimp) and Twin Lobster Tails. Both were served hot and accompanied with signature smashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. Enjoyed our dinner. Usually come just for the fresh oysters.
We eat dinner often at Mitchell’s and it is usually great! Brunch, however, was not. Eggs for Eggs Benedict (both orders) were hard-cooked, not poached. Shrimp and scallops were over cooked and tough. Service was great as usual, manager is a really nice, friendly person. So maybe they just need a new cook! Not sure we will do brunch there again ... :(
We ended up sitting At the bar after being sat in between 2 families with young children. There was plenty of available tables however they sat us elbow distance from the others. Once at the bar, we enjoyed oysters, amazing pecan trout and some cocktails. Great service.
This was our first visit to this Mitchell's. We opted for a booth in the bar area so we could watch the "football" game on TV. Service was professional & courteous.
We weren't that hungry so we split a Chilean Sea Bass (always one of my favorites). Our meal came out on two separate plates (each w/our own ordered veggie). The fish was a bit salty. The veggies even more so. We did mention this to the server who said she would mention this to the chef.
When we asked for the check, she offered a dessert on the house due to our meal "hiccup". We bowed out of having dessert but thanked her anyways for the offer.
Have been to Mitchell's before with much better results. Calamari was good, Seabass was okay but not as good as on other trips, scallops with duck confit hash was either a very poorly conceived or very poorly executed dish. Hash did not look like any hash I've ever had, and came out stone-cold the first time. Thinking that going on Sunday night and sitting in the bar is not the place to be. Did not hold up to the excellence I've experienced doing other trips there.
Employees servicing the lounge area near the bar were understaffed. Our waiter was making drinks and attempting to fully serve 3-4 tables. Due to this, it took approx 1.5 hrs for my party of 2 to be served/cashed out, and the time within we were only visited three times by our waiter.
Mitchell’s has seemed to run hot and cold of late. This visit, everything was perfect. Corina was our server and she was top notch! The food was very fresh and prepared to perfection. The visit prior to this was less than desirable. As I said it seems to run hot and cold. I will reserve judgement on recommending to my friends until one or two more very good days.
Server was very attentive and efficient. Wife ordered a Filet medium. It came out well done. Was sent back then came back rare. On the third try it was medium well but we decided to just cut our losses. Manager did comp the item. I ordered the stuffed flounder. It was average. Clam chowder was good. Probably will not return.
When you arrive, be advised, the valet is not comped by restaurant. $4.00 before tip, not sure why; Capital, Fleming’s, Ocean Prime, and Eddie Vs are all comped. The service was excellent, our waiter Hernan did an excellent job. The calamari was outstanding. I was surprised though, the clam chowder was poor. Only 2pieces or clam. My sea bass was excellent t and my wife had the lobster and it was great. Overall the food, service, and experience were very good.
