Mitchell's Fish Market - Sandestin - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Yevhen was our waiter. He is originally from the Ukraine and studying construction engineering. He was excellent!! I highly recommend requesting him when you make your reservation. He made us feel special and accommodated all of our requests.
The meal was very good. I have eaten at other Mitchell's Seafood restaurants. I would recommend that this restaurant highlight more local fish due to its excellent access.
We had a party of 8 on a Saturday night and the service was actually quite good. Two of us ordered the same dish and agreed later that the shrimp and the scallops were overdone. Very surprising for this "Fish Market" specialty restaurant. I'd probably rather all of the food come out separately than to come out together and some of it be over cooked. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday girl was delighted with her meal and dessert.
I took some people there for a business dinner looking for some good, local seafood. Mitchell's is a very nice place, but it isn't local and it's not what one would call a "fish market" in North Florida.
They did have grouper, a beloved Gulf fish on the menu along with selections from other parts of the world, such as sea bass. They also have flounder, another fish found in the area and it was served with crab stuffing- very good.
All in all, it wasn't a bad place for a nice business dinner. They had an extensive list of unique cocktails and a big wine list. Our server was very capable, reminding me of a waiter in a fine steakhouse. That's the style of the place it is and it worked for us. But if you are looking for a seafood place to enjoy local seafood, this isn't it.
Appetizers were very good. Enjoyed the cocktail of the day. Waiter very knowledgeable on the menu and the specials. Temperature a little on the warm side inside and there was a fairly strong fish smell that all commented on in the party. Found the sea bass somewhat strong and when I brought this up to the waiter, his response was simply that it was a stronger fish. No offer for an alternate entree, etc. overall experience was average which I would have hoped for more given above average price point.
We came for some good local seafood and that is what we got! We had a dozen oysters and then a couple of platters. The batter on the fish and chips was so light that it melted in your mouth!
Prices are on the higher side but the restaurant is in a great location, surrounded by shops and entertainment, so it's worth it.
Service was very good and the atmosphere was nice while not being stuffy. Very friendly.
I would go again when next in the area.
We had a party of 8 so we were put into a small room -alone. It was a bit too warm. The staff adjusted the temperature for us but it was still a touch too warm. The waiter seemed to rush us along. We had a special needs teenager and a child in our group so we needed a bit more time to look over the menu and make selections to accommodate their selections than a table of all adults would have needed. The waiter rushed us through ordering. My husband had to step outside the room several times to get more drinks. We were a bit neglected being out of the main dining room. The food was excellent. We have eaten here several times before and this was the only time I've had a complaint. Maybe it was due to the location of our table.
Table and booth were sticky and had to be recleaned after we were seated. Restaurant did not smell good.
Our server was abrupt and a bit pushy. Our group of four felt very rushed. About the food. Marginal. Fish was over cooked, veggies were undercooked. As far BBQ shrimp...dumping BBQ sauce on cooked shrimp does not qualify as BBQ shrimp and it was not bacon wrapped as described.
None of us would recommend. Very disappointing dining experience .
The food was wonderful & the service was was a little slow but it was worth the wait. It would've gotten more stars if the waiter didn't forget my kids crayons & im not about to keep reminding them, so if that's your job do your job & you will make your restaurant look good.
Waited about 45 minutes for the main course after getting appetizers. By then I had lost my appetite and asked to cancel the main course. 15 minutes later manager comes in to apologize "if there was a delay" and only offers to take off the bill I had already canceled, not the kids meals which were served about an hour into our visit. Never again will I eat here.
Went for a business lunch on July 4th, so the restaurant was very slow which was understandable. Our waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu which was helpful. Great wine selection and very yummy gumbo. I had the cobb salad and it was good except the avacado was way too ripe to serve which was disappointing. I would definitely go again and will try for dinner the next time because I suspect it's a great place to go in the evening.
We have dined here a number of times. This recent experience was very disappointing. Crab legs were dry, pale and seperated from the shell. Manager basically said this is the way they are prepared and seemed confused they were sent back. It was as if they had sat under a hot lamp for quite some time before being brought to the table. Waited forever for bar drinks, water, tea and soft drinks. Had to ask for bread. Dirty app plates not cleared as they should have been. Scallops were dry, chewy and gritty. Other seafood items were greasy. One of our guests found a water pitcher and refilled glasses. All in all not a great meal. Very disappointing as other experiences have been great in the past. Right now, do not recommend.
