Fantastic evening with friends. Oysters on the half shell from CPB were delicious. Shanghai Seabass was delicious as always and I paired with the blackberry margarita! Service was perfect.
The restaurant was only about half full yet it took 45 minutes after we placed our order to receive our food. One of our meals was served warm at best.
The food and service was excellent. We ordered the cod dinner with smashed potatoes and vegetable medley. The occasion was an early birthday celebration. When I jokingly remarked to the waiter that I was turning 39 (actually much older), the waiter said, Again? His comeback was priceless and put the icing on this special occasion.
We went for our 4 year anniversary. The food was great and all, but everything was just too expensive for the mediocre taste of the food. This is why I highly dislike certain chain restaurants. We would've been better off going to a steakhouse, honestly. They just need to work on the food being more authentic.
We are Landry's select club members so we've used our membership at Mortons Steak house, as well as, McCormick and Schmick's. And, while those are great restaurants, Mitchell's is better in my opinion. And the price point is much better. I love the Chesapeake Bay oysters, twin lobster tails, cedar plank salmon and the lobster bisque is amazing.
Food was dry good but waiter failed to tell one of us that there was no halibut until he brought all the other meals. So she had to reorder and wait for it! While we ate. The house salad with house dressing was exceptionally good.
There was kind of a sickening fishy smell upon entering the restaurant - that should have been the red flag to leave immediately. Lobster bisque was good until I noticed a black hair in it, they did take it off the bill. Scallops were fishy and overcooked. Overall, food was extremely sub par for the price. Felt sick to my stomach and had numerous trips to the bathroom after our visit. We won't be back.
It was our 8th anniversary and we will always come back. It’s always delightful to come here.
We sat for over 15-20 minutes. No one ever came over. We left and ate at 5guys. 5guys was delicious
OVER CHARGED AND TERRIBLE SERVICE I WONT EVER GO BACK TO MITCHELL FISH MARKET “EVER “ the worst restaurant ever
Anniversary which was noted to Mitchell’s but NEVER acknowledged
We’ve been to Mitchel’s many times - sat outside with excellent service - poor service tonight. No bread, never got soup, waters showed up for dessert, crab legs seemed a few days old . . . . Luckily - ambience was great- outside on river -several people left without eating. Very disappointing for 39th anniversary dinner . . . We’ll go back but might be a while . . .
Our food was amazing! However the Decour is very old and the floor was under construction from issues that happen in the winter. It's June. It was also very warm in the restaurant on a very hot day. Felt like the air was not working. The floors were so sticky and the ladies bathroom was unacceptable. The only reason I would return or recommend this restaurant , would be for the amazing food and drinks.
Server spoke too much. Did not listen well. Drinks were expensive For the quality of bourbon snd scotch ($10 for crown royal;$12 for Elijah Craig, etc). Lobster bisque was extremely sparse as yo lobster content. Plank salmon seemed to be the best dish. Crab dip app was done well, crumb top snd baked highly recommend.
Had a great experience our second time at your restaurant! Our server added to the great experience that we were seeking. We will be back again soon!
We have always enjoyed Mitchell's for the food, service and location on the riverfront with a great view. This time, my husband was disappointed by the fishiness of the chilean sea bass. It's my husband's favorite fish and the most expensive item on the menu but it was unusually fishy. My lobster and shrimp stuffed cod was fine.
Service was slow and they failed to offer any dessert or coffee after the meal
Delicious Food! Outstanding Service from Courtney! My son and I had an amazing meal on our vacation here to your area. I would recommend to anyone and everyone.
Pretty good food at a nice location not far from downtown Cincinnati.
I have to say, we have been going to Mitchells for many years, but the last two times we went the quality and quantity of the dinner but mostly quality was sorely lacking. Two months ago we were there for my wifes birthday with our three sons, same thing, the food was bland at best, not much warmer than room temperature, the tartar sauce tasted like pure mayonaise, the trout I had was overdone. My wife had scallops which we had there a little over a year ago and THEN they were quite good. My son had Cod and it wast tasteless and room temperature, my other son had the clam chowder which he compared to Progresso from a can, I have to say I don't think we will be going back, I suspect they are going cheap on ingredients or something. It was mothers day which is a very busy restaurant day and suprisingly the place was half empty. NOT a good sign, too bad, we love seafood and have enjoyed going there over many years, but just cant justify the cost not if the quality is quite frankly going to be no better than applebees. Too bad, it was a good thing while it lasted but I can no longer recommend Mitchells at Newport:(
Overall we had a nice experience. Our waiter was interested. For example he offered us bread, then never brought any. We asked for some, it didn't appear he remembered speaking to us about it. When he brought back drinks, he asked a couple at our party "did you switch places?" They had not.. He came to take our order, when we started, he said Oh I need to take the order at the table next to you first they were already here, I was just coming to greet you. Remember we already had our drinks... Later he took my moms food to pack for take home and forgot to bring it back. Finally after we left he ran to the door with it, so I guess he did remember.
Just strange behavior, although that made our visit interesting and funny.
Wasn’t impressed with the food
We went here for Mother’s Day yesterday and I’m not impressed with this location. The service was bad and our food came out cold. I will say that my sea bass was good, probably amazing if it were even room temperature. My sons fish was so dry you couldn’t really eat much of it. My moms lobster tails were mushy and she even questioned if they were cooked fully. The waiter didn’t refill drinks well, so he obviously didn’t ask how our food was. I don’t send food back out of fear what they might do. Glad I wasted my money. My advice, go to a different location, maybe it’s better.
Service was very slow and it was not busy at all
Went to have a nice meal at a place we enjoy. Food was great, service not so good. Hopefully it was an off night. We were seated by hostess but no one came to service us for over five minutes. Each time something was brought we had to ask for what should automatically be there, like plates to eat the appetizer on, napkin and silverware to use. Server would be gone for long periods of time. Refill of water. All annoying things.
Gretchen, our server, made the experience!
We all enjoyed our dish, wine and company. Mitchell’s never disappoints.
Although I made a reservation on Open Table, the hostess said she did not have the reservation in the computer. I had received a confirmation from Open Table.
We chose Mitchell's based on availability and reviews for other open restaurants at the time we needed before an event we were attending. The food was very good; we had a fun mix of appetizers to share. The service was not good. We were slow to be acknowledged. Our first appetizer came before we had received our cocktails or water and we were seated in the bar. It was early in the evening and there seemed to be a lot of confusion on who was responsible for our service. Overall, it was a good experience because of the food and the drinks, when we finally received them.
This was by far the worst service I have ever had in my life. She was slow and at first she didn’t even know we were her table.... we literally were there for over 2.5 hours and it was all because of her. She was awful
With having reservations I would expect a better table than what we had...a 2 top between a wall and a pillar. No problem, we can deal with that. Once the server came, it took 30 minutes to get our drinks. We ordered two appetizers and one came out completely cold, as in no heat what’s so ever. After sending that back and being assured it was handled, it came back hot. Within 3 minutes of getting our hot appetizer, our food came. My wife’s food came the exact opposite of the way it was described to her. My rice was refrigerator cold, which made the shrimp that was laying on top, cold. Once my wife’s replacement food came out, I had already eaten most of my cold food. The manager came over and didn’t know what to say....asking me what I wanted him to do. No...you’re the manager. That was our last chance with Mitchell’s on the Levee. I’m a big Tillman fan but this is ridiculous.
Food was outstanding. I had "The perfect pair" of stuffed lobster tail and stuffed shrimp. It was excellent. My husband had the Shark with cabbage - excellent again. This happened to be a very busy night with prom weekend so the service was NOT what I typically experience here. Service was slow, I had to repeat requests for minor things (water, utensils, drink refills, etc.) which I expect to be anticipated. I hope this was an isolated incident as I have eaten here many times previously and always had great service before. I would still highly recommend this restaurant.
Mitchell's has a wonderful location on the Ohio River, easy access as there is nearby valet. Bar area was friendly with a good happy hour. Dinner was excellent, one having a fried seafood platter while another had a pan seared fish of the day. Bread was served upon arrival and the waiter was very personable and friendly, knowledgeable as well. Enjoyed our experience.
Right across the river from Cincinnati, we walked across the bridge to get to the restaurant. Food was delicious particularly the NE clam chowder and the shark fin pie!
Rough night for our two families at Mitchell’s. The server must have been brand new as she did not know how to open wine with a corkscrew. She was clearly above drinking age but certainly not trained. We helped guide her to figure it out. Double lobster tails were terribly over-seasoned to the point of being nearly inedible. With our poor service we didn’t even try to send it back because it would have taken too long and we were already dealing with a meal that came out wrong. No manager ever came by to check on us despite us being there for about two hours. Not at all what I expect from a nice restaurant. First time at this location. We have been to the Cleveland location a couple times and received a much higher quality experience.
Other than the service being a bit slow (our three course restaurant week lunch took well over an hour, most of it spent waiting for the entree), this restaurant was quite enjoyable. The food was very good, and the staff was friendly.
I took my grandmother out to eat for restaurant week. She rarely gets to go out and so any time we do, I try to make it special. I was slightly disappointed to see that they already had a regular featured special that we could have got any time. The hostess didn’t read my note on the reservation until after we’d sat down and then offered to move us outside. The server was friendly, but seemed as though she would have preferred to be somewhere else. We got fresh, warm bread and it was delicious. I ordered the crab cake sandwich that came with French fried and Cole slaw. My grandma ordered paella. I was not impressed with my meal at all and though my grandma loved her paella, it was not the best I’d had. We shared a Creme brûlée, which was very good with fruit on top. Overall, I’d give it a 3. Not in a hurry to rerun.
Always tasty food, excellent service and very good ambience.
It took 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us at the table. The table behind us sat down 10 minutes after us and had appetizers on the table before we even had a water. Drinks didn’t come until 30 minutes after we were seated. Server never acknowledged us having to wait or anything. No manager ever stopped by. The food was good, but we will never be back due to TERRIBLE service. I can deal with having to wait but don’t ignore the issue. When leaving the host and manager was standing at the host stand and they all just stared as we walked out and didn’t say a word.
