We have eaten here many times before (our friends are Landry card holders) and the food and service has been great, however not this time.
My wife ordered the cedar plank salmon and asked for it to be well done. It was basically raw and had to send it back. Our friend ordered Sea Bass and got Salmon with shrimp and scallops, had to send it back (server admitted she heard wrong). It took at least another 20 minutes to get their food. It was not put as a priority. Drinks were not refilled, unless asked. Nothing was offered in the mean time, etc...
The Manager came over and apologized a couple of times, but nothing else.
My trout was dry and luke warm and the potatoes were cold. I did not bother to send it back, since I wasn't feeling well, but ended up not eating most of it. Only one of the 4 of us got what she ordered and was able to enjoy it.
No amends offered.
This meal & lack of service was not worth the price at all.
It may be a long time before we come back if we do at all. There are a lot of great restaurants in Louisville, so we don't have to settle for this type of food and service. We did give 2 stars vs 1, only because the two meals that got sent back were a lot better the second time around. However, I can not honestly recommend this restaurant at this time.
The quality of the food was on par with a local Captain D’s but at five times the cost. The shrimp was no different than what you would receive at a Denny’s. The andouille sausage rice was like a sweet rice a roni with a small sliver of sliced sausage put in it. My wife’s sauce for her stuffed cod had the consistency of water with no flavor. Very disappointing as we eat here often and quality of the food seems to be worsening with each visit. This will probably be our last.
The waiter was frantic, order came out wrong, wedge salad was wilted and the waiter said he would take care of it but nothing was done. Drinks were empty most of the meal. The waiter was incredibly kind but he was struggling to meet the normal standards of Mitchell’s we know and appreciate.
Mitchell’s was our first time experience. We read all the reviews before going. The reviews were so negative, it almost caused us to cancel.
So glad we didn’t! Our waitress was attentive, informative, and pleasant.
The prices were reasonable , the food was excellent.
My friend had the house salad with ranch, and the seafood platter.
I had the clam chowder, and shared her seafood platter. Our waitress even brought it divided on two plates! No extra charge.
We were pleasantly surprised, and wondered who all the negative reviews came from.
We will be going back!

I would have expected an apology from the floor manager and to be comped for our dinners as would any top-notch restaurant.
Sadly, that did not happen.
The staff is routinely incompetent and unknowledgeable about what is on the menu. Wait times for food is unreasonable most of the times I've been. Management is less than concerned about any issues reported to them. I'm not one of those people who complains to get something for free. I'm someone who complains because eating there isn't free and I should get the food/service I pay for.
The waitress completely messed up several of our orders and it took a long time to get it corrected. The service was poor and the food was very average (not a good value when compared to other similar options in Louisville). I wouldn’t recommend Mitchell’s Fish Market.
Went for dinner here when I found that one of my favorite servers was on the floor. Made my reservation several days in advance.
Arrived a few minutes early and was told that my table was not ready. Strike #1...when I make a reservation, I expect to be seated when I arrive.
When finally seated, we were warmly greeted by Tommy (the afore mentioned server) and after requisite pleasantries, placed our drink order (kudos to the bartender for getting my Woodford Old Fashioned perfectly made) and then our food order of apps/salad and main course for each of us.
My dining companion and I were well involved in our conversation when the food runner showed up with our main courses, no app/salad had been served (strike #2). Since were both rather hungry, we had them nix the app/salad course. The manager came out and explained that there was a disconnect in the kitchen (well, DUH). As a positive to this little OOPS, the food that was served was well prepared and presented...we both cleaned our plates!
Time for dessert....which we order, plus I ordered a dessert coffee (The Luxury) which came with whipped cream on top....well, when I went to stir the whipped cream into the coffee, it curdled (strike #3)! I wound up just having a lovely Port with my Key Lime pie.
I have always been one to give someplace a couple of tries to get it right. And this will not be an exception to that practice. Tommy did a fantastic job of keeping the evening flowing and light!
Mitchell's is a chain. And the events of this particular evening reaffirm my disdain of chain restaurants...with a couple of exceptions.
I will give Mitchell's one more (cautious) try. I've also shared this experience with several other of Tommy's followers as a heads-up if there should venture over that way!
Wanted a cozy spot for lunch with a friend to “catch up”. Service and food were just fine but the piped in music was SO LOUD it was a challenge to converse without shouting . Mentioned this to a server and a hostess - hostess opened a door and found a dial for controls - we assumed she was going to lower volume -nevertheless decibel level remained . Seems incongruous that nice booths with comfortable banquettes and mood lighting has to compete with super loud lyrics from today’s edgy pop music . Doesn’t fit with the ambience that seems to imply a quiet understated atmosphere for a pleasant dining experience . Not sure we’ll be back for awhile unless unless there is assurance that the annoying background racket is gone. Guess a quick solution would have been take-out - we could have gone home to our own quiet space with our entrees ....
The food was excellent, well prepared, good portions. Dishes came exactly as detailed but admit I was a little surprised that the Special was fish and only a few veggies - really would have liked some rice or potatoes too! Other dishes came with ample portions of pasta or fries, as indicated. My fault! One in our party was not a fish fan - could only find 1 chicken option. No (really) kids' options. Everything was appealing and completely delicious. Our waitress was the best I've ever had - attentive, friendly, helpful, patient, respectful and not intrusive. She made a very pleasant meal very enjoyable. Only a 3 on the ambiance because it felt like the tables were a little crowded together but nothing NOT to come back over. I would absolutely (and have!) recommend Mitchell's - if you enjoy seafood other than simply fried, this IS the place.
When we arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation we were told there was well over an hour wait for a table. We took to the bar for cocktails to wait out the new seating time. One sip into the wine, red wine was spilled all over my daughter, her tan colored coat and the person next to us by the bar staff. They were quick to apologize (mistakes happen), handed me soda water and a rag and nothing else. No offer to dry clean the coat or comp our bar tab. During the fiasco we learned that three cooks had quit and the kitchen was short staffed. I was extremely surprised that they weren't informing people of the issues and were still booking reservations. We walked out and won't be back.
My husband and i dined Dec 27 and sat in Chris’ section and had such a good experience we told the GM we were coming back with our kids Jan 1. Jan 1 the service was nice but got our order wrong on three different levels (sides, beverages, dessert) but the bigger problem was our kids meals of cod were FROZEN upon delivery! It was atrocious! not only did our food get cold while we waited for new kid food- the mgr on duty barely said an apology and offered no meal discount. having a 6 and 8 yr d kid each wait extra long plus our own meals cold and no mere offer of getting them a free dessert or the offer of a discount was shocking. We just would have appre iated the gesture. The waitress was sweet but not empowered to do anything. We are disappointed as we live close and wanted to make this a new family place but having raw and FROZEN kids meals (the most simplistic!) and the lack of professionalism from the manager on duty leads us to not return.
It's possible that our experience was underwhelming because we visited on New Year's Eve, but my husband and I were very dissapointed in Mitchell's. The service was slow, the sides were unseasoned and bland, the lobster was rubbery, and my steak was served so rare that it was dripping blood. We ordered the 3 course meal and the included dessert was never offered, but we were charged for it. By the time we were offered our check, we were so ready to get out of there that we didn't even mention dessert to the server. The food is definitely not worth he price.
Disappointed is the best word for my evaluation. First, we waited for 20 minutes for any server to visit our table for drinks. I had to go ask for our server. When the meals were served, the servers served the wrong meals to 2 guests. Midway through the meal, we realized 2 guests were given the wrong meals and we informed our server (Chris). He informed his Manager (Patrick). Patrick addressed our table and said he would take care of the issue; no remedies were offered and he left our group.
When the checks were presented to us, there was nothing offered for the issue. I asked the waiter and he said Patrick said the 2 guests ate their whole meal so there would no changes in the cost of the meals. I asked to speak to Patrick.
When I asked Patrick about the issue, he said since both guests ate their meals, there would not be any discount. I said if we knew that, we would have sent back the meals and had the original orders remade and brought to our guests. I then asked to speak the to the GM - Tood Fern. Mr. Fern was very understanding and apologized for the issue. He said Patrick would come see me, apologize and take care of the issue. When Patrick came to our table, he just handed me the check and began to walk out. I asked him to wait until I reviewed the bill. It was a $2.00 discount. When I asked him about the bill, he said that was the difference between the 2 meals and walked out. He discounted 1 meal and did nothing for the other guest.
As I was leaving, I informed the GM about my disappointment of how this issue was handled and he was surprised. He said he would discuss this issue with Patrick and told me to call him and he would take of a dinner for us in the future.
Todd Fern was great but not for the free meal offered but the way he talked to me and listened.
We have ate at this restaurant several times and it has always been great. I hope the Management learn from this incident and this does not happen to anyone else in the future.
Very, very good meal for three. We don't usually go to this restaurant, tho it's in our neighborhood, but we will put it on the short list. Husband's sea bass was tender and delicious, brother's oysters were excellent, and my ahi tuna bowl was the best I've had. Service was prompt and unintrusive. FYI, much of the fish is farm raised.
Having reservations, we were seated promptly. The restaurant was full and there was a wait for those without reservations. The wait staff must have been understaffed because service was very slow. Orders from the bar (wine) were very slow (about 20-25 minutes) and the request for additional bread was not met. One guest in our party found a plastic nip (tip of a squirt bottle) in her salad. The gumbo I had was not good. I remembered it being authentic a New Orleans recipe and it was more like a seafood bisque without rice.
I have enjoyed Mitchell's in the past but will not be anxious to return after this last visit. It was not a good experience.
