Mitchell's Fish Market - Louisville Ratings and Reviews
I have visited Mitchell's many times before, and have written positive reviews. Unfortunately this experience was extremely disappointing, and it may be a while until we return. Our server was very nice, and apologetic throughout our dinner, however she seemed unable to do anything to resolve the absurd length of time it took for us to be served. After ordering (for four) at 7:00 we waited for our first course, two clam chowder and a Caesar salad, At 7:45 an assistant manager came over to explain they had run out of clam chowder, but we making more. We ere happy to substitute something else, and would have gladly done so 40 minutes sooner if given the chance. We did substitute, and received our first course. At 8:20 the same manager came back to explain why we had not yet received our entrees, but other than apologizing had no reasonable answer. We finally received our food - luke warm and overcooked at 8:25. It was an hour and 25 minutes after we ordered. The assistant manager did reduce the cost by 50% of each entree, but still charged for beverages and dessert.
The morning following our visit I received a call from the Interim General Manager, who apologized, asked for information of what happened, and offered to "do something special" for us when we come back. Not knowing exactly what he has in mind, and not having confidence that our next experience will be better than our last, I don't think it is likely we will take advantage of his offer.
We'd been wanting to try Mitchell's for some time, as we love seafood. We were immediately seated at a cozy booth. There were several large tables of patrons, but the noise was more energetic than uncomfortable. Our waitress seemed distracted by something, although she took our orders quickly and efficiently. She seemed disappointed that we didn't continue ordering drinks, as she asked several times if we wanted another - we didn't as we were driving - although our water glasses were empty and that seemed to take a lot longer to fill. I had the New England clam chowder - rich and warm, with lots of clams - perfect for a chilly evening. My wife had the spinach and goat cheese salad, which she quite enjoyed. She had less luck with the entrée of seafood pasta. The shrimp and scallops were small and limited in number, although properly cooked, but the pasta and sauce were gummy and not appealing. A bit more liquid might have helped, plus a more generous helping of the seafood. I had the spicy crispy shrimp appetizer as my main, which was very nice. I would have preferred a bit more spiciness in the dish, but I ate every shrimp (except a couple that my wife scooped up!), so not bad at all. The plate was sided with some steamed white rice and a marinated cucumber salad, so it was well balanced. With these things in mind, I think the pricing was a bit high, given the quantity and quality of our dishes. Overall, I was pleased with Mitchell's, with a few tweaks of the food it would have rated 5 stars across and the price would have been very acceptable.
Server failed to place 1 order of our group of 4. Mgr came over apologized & comped the dinner we never received!!! And attempted to make it sound like he was being generous & gracious!! Ignored multiple dinner & salad plates that should have been cleared from table after each course. Server did not write down our order, I am much more impressed with assuring our dinner was correct that his inability to remember our order. $100. Dinner for 3 a terrible experience!!
I MUST SAY I WAS QUITE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE HOSTESSES. I HAD MADE A REQUEST FOR A BACK CORNER TABLE AND THAT IT WAS MY WIFE'S BIRTHDAY. THEY CALLED ME EARLIER IN THE
DAY TO CONFIRM WE WERE STILL COMING AND THE CORRECT SPELLING FOR HER NAME FOR A
SPECIAL MENU OR SOMETHING. WHEN WE GOT THERE I TOLD THEM MY NAME AND THEY SEATED
US RIGHT AWAY. IT WAS A SMALLER BOOTH TABLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM AND THERE WAS NEVER A MENTION OR OFFER DURING THE COARSE OF THE DINNER TO BRING ATTENTION TO MY WIFE. WHEN I MENTIONED SOMETHING TO THEM UPON MY EXIT, THEY LOOKED AT ME AND LOOK DUMBFOUNDED AND SAID WE ARE SORRY WE NEVER SAW THE REQUESTS.
We have always loved Mitchell’s but their food quality has diminished. Fried seafood platter was over cooked. Stuffed cod had funky tasting shrimp and lobster in it and the cod was dry and tasteless. The asparagus was hard and bland. The cod came out luke warm. The sever over charged us for our side items and we had to ask him to make the correction. He also did not do drink refills or clear plates timely even though there were a group of servers sitting in the corner talking in a booth, which seems odd in an upscale type place like Mitchell’s. We were here on a Sunday at 1:00pm.
I ordered the Bourbon Salmon and it was drenched in a sauce that was way to sweet and overly saturated the Salmon. I thought it was a marinade or a light glaze. It was a nice healthy dish turned completely unhealthy. I would have been better off ordering the fish & chips if I wanted all of those calories.
Eddie is the only reason the meal was enjoyable.
Mitchell's called me during the day to ask if we were celebrating a special occasion, and I let them know that it was my husband's birthday. They said they would do something special, but they never mentioned it. We were initially seated right behind a large party despite many open tables, so we waited a few minutes to be greeted. When we weren't, I walked up to the hostess stand and asked if we could move. After we moved, we waited about 20 minutes before we were greeted or got water or anything. However, after that, food and service were great.
Mediocre at best. This used to be one of our favorite restaraunt to go to but it has slide down hill. Pretty evident something was wrong when the restaraunt was only half full at 8 pm on a Saturday night. Had reservations for a birthday dinner and indicated it was for a birthday. Although we were not looking for anything free for the birthday - there was no recognition of the occasion at all. Seated timely and server was cheery- but that was the only real positive. Took a long time for drinks to arrive. I had asked for an extra glass of ice- which I got about 4O minutes later after asking 3 times for it. Oysters were tasty but had been pretty hacked up- like the shucker did not know what he was doing. Wedge salad had a minuscule amount of egg and bacon - not even a mouthful- but lettuce was crisp. I had cod shanghai style which was watery and needed salt. Husband had shrimp pasta dish and shrimp was overdone and pasta was over cooked. Server forgot to offer bread - finally got bread and butter after meal was almost over when another server brought it and said " here is your second plate of bread". I corrected her and said it was our first plate of bread. For $100 I know we can do better. Sad to see since we really used to enjoy this place.
Good friendly service. With dependably good food. We like the gumbo and house salad. They always have fresh oysters too. I like to get the cedar plank salmon or the shanghi style fish. This tine they had twin lobster tail special with asparagus and smashed redskins that was not only a great deal but delicious!
We had a group of four on a slow night, and were able to sit outside on the patio. The food was awesome, and everything we ordered was prepared correctly, was hot, presented well, and tasted great.
The service was a little bit unsteady, as our server seemed to lack confidence and/or training. He was not sure which beers were available on Happy Hour and had to go find a menu to show us what we already told him was on the sign outside the front door. He also held a tray of drinks above my head for an extended period as he removed one at a time, and made me believe at any moment I would be soaked, which luckily did not happen. More importantly he did not remember who had which drinks, first course or entree. It worked out fine in the long run, and would not prevent us from returning.
Will not be returning to Mitchell's Fish market anytime soon for probably just anytime. We were very unhappy again that the same problems that we have complained about in the past just continue to occur . The problem is it involve service which this time was fine and food quality which this time was the main problem. My wife's dish was not presented as ordered and when brought to the attention of the staff was taken back into the kitchen messed with and then brought back out to her instead of preparing a fresh dish. This was unacceptable and was brought to the attention of the manager who apologized and did take it off our final bill. But these are the kind of problems that continually occur at Mitchell's and have made us decide that it is not one of the restaurants that we will continue to go to. We could understand if this was a busy weekend night but this was a weekday night and the restaurant was the same Pretty empty except for people sitting on their patio.
Have been here many times before for lunch and dinner. This is the first time I got the rib eye.We arrived at 5 pm and there were very few people dining but tons of servers. I feel that we waiting a long time for our dinner to arrive. I asked that my steak be prepared medium. But in fact in came well done. I surmised that is why we waited so long. In my opinion a medium cooked steak still has some pink in the center this was cooked through, no pink any where. While the flavor of the meat was good, it would have been so much better had it not been over cooked. I was not even asked if I liked how my steak was prepared. We waited so long, I didn't want to complain and then have to stay longer were I offered another steak.
