Mitchell's Fish Market - Livonia Ratings and Reviews
After wanting to eat at Mitchell's for a while, the overall experience was less than stellar. The unenthusiastic hostess set a mediocre tone. Our server was amazing, though, and that was a plus. The calamari app was very good...crispy, light and tender. The stuffed cod was not bad but not great. The grapefruit basil martini sounded more interesting than it tasted. My husband liked the salmon but was not impressed with the vegetables.
We went for New Years Eve. We’ve gone on holidays before and it’s been excellent. This time it was just ok. Our server wasn’t very good or knowledgeable. It was sort of like ordering at a cheap chain, not an upscale place. He didn’t have suggestions, couldn’t answer questions about the menu. Didn’t bring stuff when we requested it. The food was tasty, but expensive. We recently went to another restaurant and our bill was a little less than Mitchell’s but the food and overall experience were far superior.
Tuna was a bit too done for my preference even though ordered quickly seared. Bread pudding dessert was luke warm in spots and room temp in other spots Expected much better - it’s probably been at least 5 years since I’ve need to Mitchell’s; not as good as I remember - the saving grace was the service where the waiter was very patient with my son and myself - did all he could to support our requests.
Our server was Heidi. Right from the start, she appeared rather pushy and wanted to get us through dinner and out the door. Her voice was very loud and she was rather condescending. All of us were taken back by her mannerisms. The order was not properly executed, either by her or the chef, as the filet was over cooked. Hence the other parties had to wait for me to finish.
We wanted Walleye and they had it on the menu. There were three in our party we each ordered the walleye. Two out of three had good pieces of fish and the third didn’t taste good. We sent it back and they made a new one, which was fine. Fish is tough. It has to be fresh. You’d expect that at a fish restaurant. Calamari was good, but ordered it with cocktail sauce instead of the sauce it came with. A much better choice. Parking it tough. Used valet. It was hard to get car after dining, as there were so many people trying to get their car. Overall it was fine. Nothing special.
We had a larger group so I know the dining experience can be different than dining for two, but the restaurant simply is not as good as it has been in the past. We had two servers , neither being very experienced. When I asked about salads and soup selections the server referred me to the listing on the left side of the menu rather than verbally reciting the selections, saying there were many to choose from.....there were only 4! I requested to be seated in a more private area of the restaurant, and we were seated in the middle of the busiest area of the restaurant. Very disappointing. Food was good but unremarkable. Service rather slow. By the way, we were dining on a Sunday evening....not the weekend. I don't think I'll be returning.
Mitchell’s always has excellent dishes. Example, we had some excellent fish in a seasonal squash broth. On this occasion our waiter was a little scrambled and was Early with some items and late with others, but all food and drink and the ambiance were typically excellent.
Food was very good! Server had a large party seated after we were. We never got silverware, napkins, or bread plates after warm bread was delivered. We informed the server. She said she told the busboy, but never followed up. My wife never got her tea . Our appetizer came late ,server said she never heard the order. Later, the manager came over to apologize, and deducted the price of the appetizer, which was appreciated, as it was finally delivered, and quite good! Never had service issues before. Would come back!
