Mitchell's Fish Market - Livonia Ratings and Reviews
We had a larger group so I know the dining experience can be different than dining for two, but the restaurant simply is not as good as it has been in the past. We had two servers , neither being very experienced. When I asked about salads and soup selections the server referred me to the listing on the left side of the menu rather than verbally reciting the selections, saying there were many to choose from.....there were only 4! I requested to be seated in a more private area of the restaurant, and we were seated in the middle of the busiest area of the restaurant. Very disappointing. Food was good but unremarkable. Service rather slow. By the way, we were dining on a Sunday evening....not the weekend. I don't think I'll be returning.
Mitchell’s always has excellent dishes. Example, we had some excellent fish in a seasonal squash broth. On this occasion our waiter was a little scrambled and was Early with some items and late with others, but all food and drink and the ambiance were typically excellent.
Food was very good! Server had a large party seated after we were. We never got silverware, napkins, or bread plates after warm bread was delivered. We informed the server. She said she told the busboy, but never followed up. My wife never got her tea . Our appetizer came late ,server said she never heard the order. Later, the manager came over to apologize, and deducted the price of the appetizer, which was appreciated, as it was finally delivered, and quite good! Never had service issues before. Would come back!
This was our second year going here for Thanksgiving. Last year we had excellent food and service so we were really looking forward to going back again for our holiday. This year the food was still excellent but the service struggled. I tried to cut them some slack since these folks are giving up their own time with family on Thanksgiving to work but the two managers on duty didn't seem to have a good handle on how things were running or do much to jump in an help. Our server forgot a salad that was ordered, never offered drink refills and after cashing us out and dropping off dessert basically disappeared. I had to go hunt down someone to get some carry out boxes and we all left thirsty. Bummer!
Our server Brian was not good. He came to our table to take out order, left and did not come back until I flagged him down for the check. Someone else brought out the food and we had to ask for silverware 3x. We did not receive drinks or refills of water. Also, he did not check on us in between waits for our meal or during the meal. Our meal was decent at best. However, we received a mini scoop of vegetables and a medium piece of fish. We were looking for the rest of the food. I’ve been to Mitchell’s several times and this has to be the worse. I was highly disappointed because it was my husbands birthday and we were not satisfied.
I got an email informing me that in honor of " Sandwich Day," they were featuring a lobster /shrimp sandwich with fries and slaw for only $9.95. That convinced me to go and I did not regret it. The sandwich was great. I think they do this a couple of times/year.
The service was very good and the restaurant was nice and very clean. The food just wasn’t up to par for the price. Vegetable sides were sparse and over cooked. Portion size was small. The fish was fresh and cooked well. The food is not as good as it use to be.
The salmon was under-cooked and raw, and not well-done as ordered. Several utensils still had food stuck to them when the table was set. Many food crumbs had not been cleaned off the booth seat and table. The glass for drinking water was very dirty and did not look like it had been washed at all.
Mitchells is a great restaurant for any occasion. The wait staff weren't hovering but perfect. Our food was the steamed sea bass - we asked for it from the dinner menu. Aside from the price being a little steep at $36 for a 7oz portion with sticky rice and steamed spinach it was amazing - truly delicious. I know that the fish is a pricey one, and we said we didnt' mind getting that portion. As it was a business meal it wasn't a big deal, and it was so delicious!!!
