The host upon arrival was completely nonchalant and refused to seat us for over 30 minutes although we had reservations and tables were open. We finally went to management and were seated promptly. Should not have had to go thru that...but our server Leslie was great.
New Year’s Eve
Fish was cold, steak was over cooked, glass was cracked, waited long time for mediocre meal.
Our 2017 NYE dinner here was regrettable. Even though we had a reservation we were told we'd have to wait in the bar for 30 min for a table to clear because the diners weren't leaving quick enough even though the restaurant appeared pretty quiet overall. Instead, we found an open table in the bar and requested to be seated there...then I wrangled 3 menus from the unamused hostess. Our expensive entrees were cold and/or had the incorrect side dish per the actual menu. I mean who throws jambalaya like rice down on a plate of $35 stuffed shrimp and lobster instead of mashed potatoes? We asked for the potatoes and 1 new hotter entree and were told the manager would be by. My friend received a brand new hot entree in 15 min while my other friend sat still waiting for the corrected mashed potatoes...finally our waitress went back to grab them 5 min later. By this point in the meal our original food was cold and we never saw that infamous manager at the table the whole night. Our first and only round of drinks was good, but our waitress never even thought to ask us if we wanted another round on NYE. If you still go here and want to salvage your evening , skip their also disappointing shark finn pie for dessert and head to Ale House for their awesome buried treasure ice cream pie or go to J Alexander for their wonderful chocolate martins. This is my 2nd and last subpar dinner here.
Food is not worth for that price. Soup was not hot and salty
Service is pretty much non existence
I heard the restaurant has closed down as of Jan 1st
Service was terrible. We sat at the table 30 minutes before a waiter came to the table. Then it was another 20 minutes before he read the specials to us and by then we just wanted to order and eat. We were there almost 3 hours and not by our choice. We had planned to be out in under 2 hours. Will not return.
Apparently this establishment has closed as of today! No wonder it was not up to par on Saturday.
Service was pretty poor. Brought the wrong entree out for me. Then brought what I ordered- fried shrimp and fries. However; failed to bring out ketchup or cocktail sauce. Waiter never returned to the table to check on us until we were finished. It will be a while before we return.
Worst meal we have had there and staff were fighting amongst themselves in the bar area
We dined at 6:15 on a Thursday evening. There were only a few other tables with diners. Waiter was very kind, but service was EXTREMELY slow. Our three course meal took well over two hours, and it wasn't because the waiter didn't want to rush us. It took well over an hour for our entrees to be served. Lobster bisque was tasty once you broke through the skin on top. Bits of lobster were very over cooked. Calamari was tasty, but you had to remember to keep your fork for your main meal, as only one fork was provided at each place setting. Entrees were crying out for salt.....but who wants to dump the salt shaker on their dinner plate? We were a party of five. The waiter cleared three of the plates. I was almost finished, but intentionally held onto my plate so our guest of honor, who was obviously still eating, wouldn't be the only person with a plate in front of him. This is one of my larger pet peeves in restaurants; to me, removing plates from all but one guest is very rude. The food was surely not worth the cost of the bill. We will not return.
My husband and I have had the pleasure to Dine at Mitchell's Fish Market twice . Once a year for two years, for us it is a place of celebration, conversation, and a strengthening of our love for one another. We have had fabulous visits both times, but our kind Server made the night for us on 12/26/17. She was the most attentive, unobtrusive, and kind server , ever.
Our appetizers, and meal were absolutely superb. The Chef could and should be commended.
We look forward to our next visit with bated breath.
Open on Christmas Day. Great food, good service, very enjoyable dinner.
Had a less than positive experience tonight. Food was served cold and it took an hour to even get served. We had a dirty wine glass delivered to the table and I went to the bar to exchange it...was sent back to my table with dirty glass in hand and was told our waitress would handle this. Food arrived without silverware to eat with.
Food was average at best and it wasn’t at its best because of poor temp control.
Nice place physically and great looking bar...but the food leaves much to be desired.
I used to love going there. But I went in Christmas day, my drink was horrible and food came out cold. The service was ok. That was the first time I was not happy since I have been going there. I don't think I will go back anymore.
We had Christmas lunch at Mitchell's. The service was good in spite of the restaurant being very busy. All of our food was good, except the lobster. I ordered the $55 Surf and Turf, and had been looking forward to the lobster; however, it was gray and mushy. I ate only a few bites. The waiter Chris asked how our meal was and my friend told him about the lobster. He just said he was sorry. So that experience may impact our returning to the restaurant in the future.
The food and service was excellent for a Holiday, very busy. ( Christmas Day) The only fault i have is: when you ask for a glass of house wine, you do not expect to pay $11.00. Have your drinks at home and order water!!!!!! Maybe management would like to explain ??
Nice place for an upscale business lunch or nice dinner. Good food, great cocktails, wonderful ambulance. My go to date night dinner place.
Mitchell's is a great restaurant with good drinks and excellent fish.
Always consistent as I have been in Orlando and Tampa locations and all are excellent.
If you are in mood for Seafood (their steaks are good too), try it out.
Great place to try if in area
Our server was excellent and made good recommendations for some additional sides for sharing. The drinks were very tasty! Each year a couple of friends from Palm Coast come for a Christmas dinner and we like yo choose a nice restaurant such as this one.
Office Xmas lunch
Our experience at this particular Jacksonville Mitchell's Fish Market restaurant was terrible! The server was ill-trained, food was bad, & late, place was nearly empty, and even the men's room was filthy.
Did not expect with reservation to be seated with my child in bar area. Other patrons were loud and not what I want my child to hear. Food was good, server was slow with waters, desert was late in coming staff seemed distracted by their surroundings and socializing etc.
Great servixe
Cost to high for first date. I could have spent half the money and had better food. Flashy look good for first date honestly would only go there for business now.
We were celebrating my birthday and Mitchell's was my choice. I am always impressed with the food and the excellent service.
Had a great time at Mitchell's with my customers. The food was excellent and the service attentive and knowledgeable without being intrusive. Starters and main courses were all excellent but I was a little disappointed with the banana bread pudding dessert.
FILET ORDERED WELL DONE, WITH TOUCH OF PINK; SERVED 'RARE'
I was very disappointed on my last visit to Mitchell's in Jacksonville, FL, especially since it was on my birthday. My wife & I ordered cocktails and when my waiter, Kyle, who was very good, took our orders, I ordered a Filet Mignon, well done, with just a touch of pink inside, and an add-on Lobster Tail. My wife ordered Sea Bass, w/Lobster & Shrimp stuffed. When served, my Filet had blood running out (Kyle said my goodness, that’s rare), necessitating a re-order; meanwhile my wife ate dinner alone...very unhappy. When my meal was served again, my wife was almost finished with her meal. She is Filipino, and an expert on fish; however, she doesn't like to complain; later, as we were driving home, she told me the Sea Bass tasted "tough"), which I took as being overcooked.
When the check arrived, I noticed the $25 Birthday Reward was mentioned, but neglected to see where it was taken off the total. When I asked, I was informed that a percentage of each item was discounted to equate to the $25. That's the oddest way I’ve ever encountered for applying a reward; as every restaurant I've been to simply takes $25 off the total. Very strange. Basically, the evening dinner was a total disaster. We have doubts on returning anytime soon, as there are many other restaurants in the area that are excellent, like Capital Grille and J. Alexanders. On a good parting note, the "Shark fin Pie" was excellent.
The service was terrible, there were only 6 tables seated, the wait staff was slow, and had spurratic contact with the customers, had to flag down the server to get refill drinks. Food, I had the seafood special, fried food was dripping in oil, too greasy. Wife had the sword fish which she said was the best she has had. Found the service so bad I won't go back. Valet parking was efficient and friendly. The ambiance was ok, but a bit too dark, very hard to see and read the menu. Cost on the high side for the quality of food and service.
Outstanding food and service, neighborhood gem and great for special occasions or just a night out.
Bathroom could have been much cleaner. Makes me wonder about the kitchen.
Even though the restaurant is marketeted on upper spectrum of pricing -it is very limited if asked to adjust preparation for special request. The vegetables served with fish entree were over cooked to the point of almost blackened and dry. There are no vegetarian entree on minu nor the kitchen /chef can prepare a vegetarian entree on the fly. Most of the side dishes are prepared ahead of time with very limited freshness or taste.
Mitchell's was excellent from us booking them through OpenTable, the experience at the restaurant handling a large party, and the service throughout. The staff worked as a team they were extremely efficient and pleasant. The entire restaurant and staff gets 10 Stars across the board. Our party consisted of over 10 people and they made everything go so smoothly. Definitely will remain one of our top restaurants.
I was very upset. I should have called the manager but I looked and saw after they only had 3 Stars. While the service was stellar the food was NOT my whole family went straight to the bathroom lol we woke up the same way. My daughter went to look at her food cut the fish and it was raw... and had uncooked batter... I’m a little upset for the money that was spent :(
I️ had the fish special and can say honestly it was the most delicious meal I️ can remember eating. Amazing! (Lobster and shrimp stuffed sea bass)
Awesome dining experience as usual. Food, drinks, and service were spot on. No Chiliean Seabass the night we went (disappointed) but our server recommended the swordfish and we were just as pleased with the dish. Great place!
Wonderful food in a great atmosphere. Wait staff are very professional.
This was my first time at Mitchell's and it did not disappoint. The menu is varied and it was hard to make a choice. We started with a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir by the glass--a happy surprise. My friend and I both ordered the spinach salad and the salmon in a maple bourbon sauce. It was delicious! The salmon was served with cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and other veggies also sautéed in the maple bourbon sauce, which were as good as the salmon. The portion was large and I had leftovers the next day and while I am not a fan of leftover fish, the salmon was still tasty the next day. There is definitely a return trip in my future.
Amazing food and choices available on the menu.
Love this place waiter was super busy she really needed help overall it was alright
Food was good but we sat in the bar area which was loud (happy hour). Food is expensive - $90 for 2 and only drink was one glass of wine at happy hour prices ???
