Been to Mitchell's in Birmingham multiple times. Great food but the service is just plain bad each time I go.
The latest was New Years Eve and it was not extremely busy at 9:30PM. We had TWO waitress. Had to ask for water and never received any bread (every other table received bread). Never came back to the table after we received our food. We also wanted to order a second round of drinks but they never came back until I approached one of the waitress when she was walking by. Then we never received the drinks until I asked 20 minutes later. They said it was secondary to the bar being busy. When I walked to the restroom 5 minutes later the bar was empty.
Not sure why the service is so bad at this Mitchell's
Disappointing at best. Service was slow where we had to ask to have table cleared after each course. Had to ask for drinks - even water.
Scallops were overdone and had to be sent back. Rest of diners were done eating by the time food came out again. Bread pudding dessert was nuked so much it was stiff. Replacement wasn't much better.
Great Food and Great Service with a unique Ambiance.....after a movie we walked over to Mitchell's and were seated right on time for our 6 pm dining reservation. We really enjoyed the Surf and Turf special for New Year's Eve. A wonderful way to end the year!
A bit pricey for lunch, but fish was good quality. We enjoyed the meal overall.
Enjoy this place's solid fare and reasonable prices. Sorry it's now closed if that's the case.
Food was fair at best. Waitress continued to ignore the request for no scallions on food. First bread basket under done second overdone. Not surprising that there were maybe a couple dozen people in the restaurant for a Saturday night. Only benefit was that it was quite and we could have conversation.
The best waiter we’ve had in a long time. MITCHELS is not always consistent but jake made it great. So much so we’d ask for him again
A fine seafood restaurant. Nice selections, lots of options for preparation, even meat eaters can find good choices. Lovely restaurant. Enjoy!
Mitchell's was busy on Christmas Day. We had a lovely meal. Tried the shrimp bacon appetizer, clam chowder, the apple salad, along with lobster/shrimp stuffed cod. I had a few of the quaint Baptist church across the street. We would do this again. A very nice Christmas meal. I strongly recommend reservations for Christmas Day.
Mitchell's is always a great place to go for good seafood and great service.
Excellent service and food!
Got the lobster & shrimp stuffed Chilean sea bass. It was not very hot and was mushy. Potatoes were cold and look liked they were sitting for some time. Very disappointed this time.
We've been there several times before and really liked both food and service. This time we had to wait a while to order, then quite a while longer to get our, some if it was not hot when it arrived. :
Very attentive service, professional. Fish was fresh and delicious,
Food was good. Portion of cedar plank salmon was small. Crab cake a bit too spicy for us. Service was excellent. Everyone very nice and friendly. Bathroom was chilly.
Our Waitress was frequently AWOL. It started with the Appetizer, we asked for what was the fastest item and it took 20 minutes. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was forgotten until we asked again. Twice they brought new servings and we had to ask to take away the used plates.
It took about 15 minutes after we were seated for any member of the waitstaff to even say hello. I finally got up and complained to the maitre d’ whom, I think, spoke to the manager. A few minutes later a waitress appeared. From then on the service was fine. I might have been more patient if the restaurant was busy but it was not. There weren’t more than 6 tables in use.
Food was mediocre. Good appetizers but my entrees was dry and somewhat over-cooked.
It would have been nice to have a good dining experience because the restaurant is walking distance from our home.
One last thing- the sound track was inane. They need a new musical director.
Took 1 hr 25 min to get our food. People who sat down after us left before our dinners arrived. The waitress said all the right things and did her best to get the food out, but she can't wait tables and cook the food. Manager said all the right things too. He picked up our dinners. The manager and waitress did the very best they could with an uncooperative slow kitchen. We have enjoyed their food in the best, but nothing tastes good after such frustration. I hope the kitchen gets straightened out. We will give it a good long wait and try it again.
We went for Happy Hour and were not disappointed. There were lots of selections and the food we picked was plentiful, very tasty, and very reasonably priced. We had the shrimp pot stickers, the Margarita flatbread and the lettuce wraps. It was almost too much food for two people. The total, with one glass of wine, came to only $22! We'll be back.
