View Private Dining DetailsThe salmon tartare appetizer was perfect—great texture and flavors. The tenderloin and truffled mashed potato flatbread however was bland—badly in need of more truffle oil! On the other hand, the linguine ingredients were overpowered by excessive garlic. While I wasn’t bowled over by all the food, I really appreciated the thoughtfully presented wines-by-the-glass section of the wine list; it’s rare to have so many good options when you’re ordering by the glass. The server was warm, relaxed, professional, as was everyone we interacted with, and the ambiance was pleasant and inviting. I’d definitely return in hopes of a perhaps more enjoyable meal next time.
This is a beautiful restaurant with outstanding food to match.service is impeccable.would recommend for special occasions as it certainly is on the expensive side. The duck was exquisite with crisp skin and moist delicious meat. Would also recommend artichoke salad and asparagus with crab soup.
The front of house staff were very accommodating. We asked them to change our table of four to a table of six and they did so without blinking. The food and table service were both great.
Great meal all around. Best food in Boston
Appealing menu, but the food lacked refinement. The foie gras was too salty and extremely heavy. Wine list is overpriced.
Overall the best restaurant experience we had over Marathon weekend. The food is excellent, though not quite up to the innovative level of sister restaurant Ostra but the noise level is much lower and the service even better. We'll be back.
Great atmosphere. Tables close together. Got to know the couple next to us. Rack o lamb and foie gras are unbelievable.
My husband and I truly enjoyed our dinner at Mistral. He had beef tenderloin and I had halibut atop lump crab risotto, both of which were delicious. Wine pours were generous and the best part was that we acknowledged at the end of our dinner that our anniversary was the following week and this was a nice way to celebrate and 2 minutes later, the waiter appeared with a beautiful three-flavor sherbert dessert on a plate with Happy Anniversary written on it in chocolate sauce. It was freaky, since we thought he had overheard us, then I remembered they had asked when I made the reservation if it was a special occasion and I had mentioned that. Either way, it made our night to get this delicious celebratory surprise. We will definitely go back.
I thought my anniversary date with my girlfriend to Mistral was decent. Food was great, service was good, they were able to take a special request to write Happy Anniversary on my girlfriend's dessert plate which is nice of them to do!
Unfortunately, I just didn't like our seating arrangement. So let me begin by saying that myself and my girlfriend aren't the types that go to these types of fancy restaurants. But hey, it is a big occasion and we are celebrating our one year anniversary together so let's splurge a bit. :)
We were seated between this clearly wealthy double-date couples (a group of 4) and this well-known man of the restaurant (almost every one who worked at the restaurant went to greet him back and talk to him). Now what I didn't like is how close our table was to these folks. I couldn't personally be intimate with my girlfriend without these people listening to every word of our conversation. I feel as if Mistral might have to work on their seating arrangements and make 'couple' seatings arranged in a different location while keeping group seatings elsewhere.
Overall, we enjoyed our time but it felt like we spent most of our time eating and not enough talking because my SO felt uncomfortable with how close these people were to use.
To those who do not feel comfortable mingling with the "rich", this is definitely not the environment for you. If you've reached an age where you couldn't care less what people think of you and you go to this restaurant wearing a bright pink adidas coat and shoes (which I saw someone wearing on my way out, huge props), then go ahead and go to this restaurant and enjoy their great food!
Cheers.
We were unfortunate to have loud, noisy neighbors, while sometimes this is uncontrollable acknowledgement from staff and an apology I believe is appropriate. While I appreciate table cleanliness, removing my plate while trying to finish my last bite is simply unacceptable. Trying to get the table’s attention should not be by using a forceful and loud voice when there is clearly a conversation taking place. While I don’t expect a traditional french service I also don’t appreciate elbows in my face every time I receive a course. It is my opinion that I think either revise your size of plates or your choice of table as they are not comfortable or compatible. Two of the guests in our party were drinking only water, and had to ask for refills on more than 3 occasions.
Perfect service. Dover sole excellent. Good wine selection but very pricey. Ambience is comfortable and relaxing with lovely colors and tasteful decor. Appetizers are super.
As always, Mistral was lovely. The service was spot on as usual and the food was delicious as always. It is a Boston gem.
Excellent food and ambiance. Excellent service and they didn't rush us to finish. I will return when we're in the area.
This was my first time at Mistral and really enjoyed it. The food was fabulous. The mushroom soup appetizer was delicious. Our waiter was excellent and he made great recommendations like the rack of lamb. The wine list is extensive offering French, Italian and Spanish wines....some bottles going for $2500+.
We took good friends visiting from London, as we think Mistral probably has the best food in Boston! Mistral is always popular and booked, so I got our reservations far in advance. We enjoyed the Maine crab ravioli and cornish hen. Chocolate sorbet for dessert was also delicious. My only wish is that they would offer more special options, as the menu was exactly the same as the previous time we visited. There was only one special on offer that evening - linguine with clams, which was excellent.
Perfection, everything was so delicious and gorgeous! Treated like royalty, one of my favorite places.
I liked every aspect except the fact that the restaurant did not have my reservation. I got the confirmation e-mail some 15 minutes before the time (9 PM) and, as it seems, the restaurant didn't have it. They managed to accommodate us (a table for 2, Sunday evening, 9 PM), not much of a problem. Other than that, flawless experience.
Great service, food and evening
Great food and great ambience. A very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Happy birthdays on the menus were awesome. Personalized touch
Went here for a birthday celebration. The food was amazing and worth every penny. The service was great as well and our server made sure everything was good for us. I would definitely come back again for a fancy meal!
You will never find a better rack
Of lamb!! It was huge and succulent; service was great
I do not usually post reviews. However, my experience at Mistral warrants my posting. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. The ambiance is wonderful, the staff attentive and the food great. I had the baby artichoke salad and the half duck. My wife and daughter each has the salmon tartar appetizer special. They both thought that it was the best that they ever ate. They then shared the Osso Boco and duck.
Were were all thrilled with the quality of the ingredients, the taste as well as the presentation. A definite jewel in Boston.
Nice meal and experience, as usual.
We always have such a great experience at Mistral. Food is fantastic & the service works very hard to make you feel special.
Edwin and the experience are always fantastic!!! Thx!! Randy
Dover sole CRUSHED
We thought the place was totally overpriced and our waiter was slightly condescending.
The food was decent; the experience was just a little disappointing. We both thought the restaurant was pretentious, in music tastes as well as food descriptions.
Will not revisit.
Overall a VERY bad experience. Starting with the service, the quality of food ... we reserved a long time ago to celebrate a special occasion. They sat us on the very first table where you could feel the cold breeze every time the door opens. The service was REALLY BAD, and the food was just ok...
Probably the best rest. in the city for the money. Started with Escargot & Foie Gras. Both absolutely outstanding. Whoever does the sauces should be kissed full on the lips! Some of the tastiest reductions I've tasted in a long while. Went on to the Tenderloin. Usually I do the Dover Sole, but had my fill recently on an Oceania cruise. Filet was tender & grilled to perfection. Richard had the roast Duck, probably his favorite entrée there. We also got a side of house fries. Nice to see homemade, as opposed to those purchased from Sysco type vendors. I had the Profiteroles & Richard had the Lemon Tart. Both were excellent, but Richard being a pastry chef can blow their Lemon Tart out of the water. We plan to venture back again when it gets warmer. Might try the Brunch. We do like the brunch at MOOO(one of their sister rest.)
We were in town for a convention and this was our first time at Mistral. Wish we lived closer so we could return. From start to finish it was a memorable meal. Brian, our young waiter, provided outstanding wait service. When we shared the rack of lamb, it was split in the kitchen and the presentation for each of us was as if the dish was created that way. Escargot and mussels to start were both high quality and full of favor.
I ordered a beef filet cooked medium. It arrived and it was grey all the way thru. The waiter agreed it was way past medium and replaced my plate within 5 minutes. The replacement was the same, way past medium. I didn’t want to wait again, so I kept it. It was mediocre at best. That was the first time I ever sent a meal back anywhere. Very disappointing.
Love their duck risotto—my go to menu for sure. Wines are decently priced.
Excellent food, service and ambiance, would recommend to anyone looking to dine out for a special occasion. High prices are worth it for the quality of the service, food and drinks.
Loved our dinner there, both the delicious food and the great service.
Always excellent food and service
Service and food were both exemplary. The atmosphere was electric and up lifting..the perfect place for a celebration! We had a wonderful time! The table was available when we arrived which was indeed the icing on the cake!!
Very excellent as usual...
I've been going there for years. Never a bad meal!!
The crab ravioli appetizer is my favorite, I get it doubled as an entree. The beet salad was light and refreshing, and the profiteroles were tasty. The Pinot Noir was excellent, and my boyfriend enjoyed his Cod entree. We went for a birthday celebration, and had a nice night!
