We arrived early for brunch but were quickly accommodated. Waiter was friendly, responsive, knowledgeable and helpful with menu suggestions. Service was prompt, food was beyond expectations and we were surprised by an anniversary dessert we did not order! Excellent value for the money. We look forward to returning frequently!
Very nice place in the Back Bay. On the negative side, the menu is a little old (note: boring) school and the bottles of wine are insanely expensive. On the positive side though, the service was exceptional and the food itself is top notch. We ate every last delicious morsel and were too full to even contemplate dessert. Definitely recommendable and we'll be back for sure.
As I was sitting there enjoying my meal I thought to myself "Why do I eat anywhere else!" And this is an honest and genuine feeling I have for Mistral. One of the best in Boston no doubt! Everything from the service, ambiance and of course the cuisine. Thoughtful, innovative, creative and amazing is what comes out of their kitchen. Can't wait to go back.
Mistral is a stalwart on the dining scene. The menu is diverse and covers all palates. Certain selections are so popular they have remained on the menu since opening 20 years ago. In a time where restaurants come and go, there is a reason for Mistral's longevity--they have the right recipe for a successful dining experience. The staff is knowledgeable and efficient, the portions are generous and the plating appealing to the eye.
Overall we enjoyed our dinner very much. The duck was excellent and our waiter helped us pick out an excellent wine. The salmon was fresh and good but nothing extraordinary.
What we didn’t like was that we felt rushed. We were surprised at how quickly our meals were served. When the waiter brought dessert menus and asked if we were interested, we said “yes” but that we didn’t want them right away, which he respected. The coffee was ok. Not strong enough for my taste and the steamed milk was nothing like what you get in Europe. I would have preferred cream. Finally we got the dessert tasting plate and all were excellent except for the profiterole, which tasted like it had been in the freezer too long.
Food was extremely over priced. No love. No attention went into presentation. Cheese platter. Thumbs down. Escargots sauce was good but that was it. Local cod entree. Its was just okay. Duck..i would feed it to my cat. As I said there was no love no professional skill put into the food whatsoever. I'm a local Boston chef and I wouldn't go back to that place if you paid me. And the dessert was terrible and dry it out something serious. Save your money.
I was so happy with the service and experience I received at Mistral on NYE. Our waitress was awesome and very friendly, very impressed with the scotch and bourbon selection I had a great 18 year aged scotch that was spot on. Our meals were served with excellent timing not to late not too early or grouped together. The quality of food was just as good as the sister restaurant Sorellina. I could’ve even finish my desert ! No room left in my belly as the meals were perfect size and cooked to perfection. I’m happy that Mistral was able to find us a very nice booth as I requested for a more quieter Mistral experience and they did not disappoint. My fiancé and I would definitely come back here again! Teatro, Mistral, Sorellina, all under our belt now !!
Food was good but our server started off strong with drinks and spa took the entree order and we didn't see her for another 40 minutes. Food was brought to the table by runners she never came back to ask us if we wanted anything. We had to go to the bar to get more drinks. When she did come back after we got the manager we ordered dessert and 3 came 2 didn't so they just took those 2 desserts off the bill. A manager came over again and apologized but really you can't apologize for bad service at the end of a 800 meal. Not impressed
This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend and while the the photos make the restaurant seem very intimate I was surprised that is actually very large. At first we were taken to a table at the very front of the restaurant near the door (it was freezing outside and this would not have been comfortable plus all of the action was near the rear of the restaurant) so I asked if there was anything further back and they were kind enough to reseat us. I would say that the appetizers were the highlight of the meal at this restaurant. We split the seared foi gras and the tuna tartar. I got the dover sole meuniere which I typically love as it is simply prepared dish and delicate (it was priced at $68 but is usually well worth it). It came served on a huge lump of sauteed spinach and onions, not very French at all and not your typically brown butter lemon sauce merely enhances the delicate flavor of the fish. And it was slightly over cooked. Very disappointing. My husband had the steak au poivre. The sauce was great but again the steak was over-cooked. (medium) even though he stated he preferred it more towards medium-rare to rare. I would say the service was in general good but not "great". The server did no ask for instance why 80% of my entree went untouched. Beautiful restaurant but maybe go for the appetizers and skip the entrees.
We loved the Mistral! My girlfriend and I went for our annual Christmas date and had an amazing time. We were never rushed, the cocktails were delicious, the food was amazing, and our server was a pleasure. She got an Espresso Martini and I got a Manhattan - the best we have had in Boston. The Wine List was impressive and the entrees were to die for! We especially loved the Prime Sirloin and Braised Beef - cooked to perfection. The attention to detail (the food, the drinks, the table service, and the atmosphere) at the Mistral was what made this experience the most noteworthy - we look forward to coming back.
We dined last month for my birthday. We were seated at a corner booth, per my request. Our waiter was very professional and showed just the right amount of attention. All of the food was delicious. The portions are a good size and most of the prices were more reasonable than I thought they'd be. The ambiance is very relaxed. We will return.
My boyfriend and I went for our 2-year anniversary. He had been wanting to go for the longest time and with our anniversary and Christmas as the next big celebration, we chose to spend it at Mistral and we were not disappointed. We were promptly seated upon arrival and our server, Edwin, provided a very fun and light-hearted experience. The food and service were both exemplary and we will definitely return in the future.
An absolutely delightful dining experience; Mistral has it all. Inventive takes on clsssic dishes, superbly prepared and highest quality ingredients. I had the Roasted Duck which I paired with an excellent half bottle of Chateau Nuef du Pape - excellent wine list and first rate service
To begin with, we do not like brunch. Unfortunately, in Boston that is all there is on Saturday and Sunday mid-day. However, Mistral one of our favorite restaurants at other times, gives us hope. Even for brunch haters, the menu was diverse and interesting and the quality of the food and service was superior.
Food and service both excellent. Missed 5 stars dues to high noise level - it was a busy mid-week night but it was still hard to hear each other sitting across a table that wasn't large. The wine list was extensive but also very expensive - lacking in moderate priced selections.
