Mistral - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Mistral has been our favorite place to celebrate special occasions. Food and overall experience did not disappoint. I did notice that service was not as congenial or engaged as in the past. I suspect that reflects the tight labor market in the area. Also, we recalled a more decorated space in past Decembers and there was little distinctive in the decor this year. Nonetheless we will continue to return and it is amazing that the restaurant has remained so good for so long.
We were celebrating my daughter's 18th birthday. When it was time for dessert no one ordered anything and I didn't want to order against her wish, but our waiter realized it and brought us a nice tri-color sorbet with a candle and happy birthday written on the dish. It made her very happy! Thanks
This long established restaurant is still one of my all time favorites in Boston. I consistently enjoy the location, great valet service, welcoming hostess, great ambience, great food and great bartenders. I am consistently frustrated however by the poor dining room service.
If they could just fix that - it would earn any easy 5 star rating from me.
My expectations were set very high for Mistral as I had read and heard that the service was very attentive and exceptional. That was not the case. While the service wasn't bad, it was just standard - had to wave at the server to get his attention for drinks, no checking to see how things were, etc. Just the regular take the order, drop the stuff off.
The food was very good - we had the tuna tartare and ravioli to start and halibut entrees. All delicious. They handled my guest's special dietary request well.
The decor is very nice, and it gets crowded.
My Italian friend and I had the dover sole meuniere with lemon & apers, sauteed spinach & onions, and fingerling potatoes entree which was deliciously prepared. Her husband had the grilled Faroe Island salmon with peppercorn & cider glazed Salmon with Kabocha squash Puree, Maitake mushrooms, and kale sprouts which he liked a lot. We all shared three scoops of yummy fruit sorbet.
Best restaurant I have tried in Boston. We had lamb’s lettuce salad, crab ravioli, salmon and halibut entrees. All were excellent as were the profiteroles for dessert. Service was just right - no hovering. The right amount of attentiveness. Would definitely return here.
A great dining experience from beginning to end. Kendall our server was terrific. She was knowledgeable, attentive and professional at all times. This restaurant is expensive but you get great value. We shared a caesar salad which was delicious. We then had the scallop with burgundy trouffle which was excellent followed by the tenderloin and halibut. We received each course timely but never rushed. For dessert we had the warm chocolate molten cake which was perfect. Overall a beautiful dining experience . The restaurant was filled by the noise level was moderate which allowed for the conversation to flow the whole night. I give this restaurant 5 stars.
We dine out often and Mistral is a dining destination that suits all palates. We are big fans of the Columbus Group restaurants. They set the bar high and always exceed expectations. It was our anniversary and we knew we wanted to have a stellar and mnemorable experience. Mistral delivered. The fois gras was out-of-this-world the delectable fois gras sitting on a brioche surrounded by duck confit, Wow! I had the sirloin au poivre--as my main course--sitting on a bed of spinach and onion was enough to feed two, but so good you wouldn't want to share!
I have heard so much about their signature pizzas and can't wait to return to try them as well as a repeat of the fois gras!
Restaurant was extremely busy and the service reflected that. Server darted in and out, and tried to push the most expensive items on the menu. Food was good, but not outstanding for the money. Portions large. Tables rather close, contributing to a relatively high noise environment.
We recently celebrated my wife’s birthday with friends. We’ve been fans of mistral and consider it one of Boston’s finest for the past 20 years. However, last night we had very disappointing service. While friendly, our waiter was inattentive and my wife’s steak , ordered medium rare , was delivered well done. We had finished our entrées before her dinner finally came out. The only thing the restaurant did after I complained was to take our desserts off the bill. Additionally the waiter had added a third steak to the bill which we had to point out.
the manager /hostess was very apologetic and friendly but hope that they address the service issue.
Great service! Good good!
We had a memorable holiday experience with Mistral as they reserved us a fab table for a special dinner.
Our waiter was the best. Young but experience beyond his years. He provided extensive wine advice and wine and food pairing.
Had a dinner with a business associate/friend at Mistral on Thursday night. It was a happening/jammed bar scene with an older age group >50. The food was good but I was looking for some legitimate French cuisine and was disappointed. All of the entrees were highly priced. Probably would not return.
We are, admittedly, a little spoiled by living in the city. I enjoy the ambiance at Mistral. They make great cocktails and the seating is very comfortable. The last two occasions we were there, the food was fair. The other night, I got the halibut for my entree and found it to be a little dry and quite plain. I don't recall what I ordered the previous time, but I remember my husband and I left with a similar impression; we weren't wowed by our meals. Nonetheless, it's a cozy spot and we enjoyed our night out.
So disappointed in Mistral. For such a restaurant I was surprised to not been asked for my coat when I arrived. Also, forget about the dress code on the website as sneakers and sports jackets seemed pretty commonplace. Our food arrived with the sort of speed you'd expect of a diner and our unsubstantial $257 meal for two was over in 100 minutes. While the food was of good quality and our waitress was polite and attentive, I would not judge the greeting, service or ambience to be fine dining. Covers through the door seems more important than the dining experience itself. Very over priced and I can't recommend it.
