Mistral - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Restaurant was extremely busy and the service reflected that. Server darted in and out, and tried to push the most expensive items on the menu. Food was good, but not outstanding for the money. Portions large. Tables rather close, contributing to a relatively high noise environment.
We recently celebrated my wife’s birthday with friends. We’ve been fans of mistral and consider it one of Boston’s finest for the past 20 years. However, last night we had very disappointing service. While friendly, our waiter was inattentive and my wife’s steak , ordered medium rare , was delivered well done. We had finished our entrées before her dinner finally came out. The only thing the restaurant did after I complained was to take our desserts off the bill. Additionally the waiter had added a third steak to the bill which we had to point out.
the manager /hostess was very apologetic and friendly but hope that they address the service issue.
Great service! Good good!
We had a memorable holiday experience with Mistral as they reserved us a fab table for a special dinner.
Our waiter was the best. Young but experience beyond his years. He provided extensive wine advice and wine and food pairing.
Had a dinner with a business associate/friend at Mistral on Thursday night. It was a happening/jammed bar scene with an older age group >50. The food was good but I was looking for some legitimate French cuisine and was disappointed. All of the entrees were highly priced. Probably would not return.
We are, admittedly, a little spoiled by living in the city. I enjoy the ambiance at Mistral. They make great cocktails and the seating is very comfortable. The last two occasions we were there, the food was fair. The other night, I got the halibut for my entree and found it to be a little dry and quite plain. I don't recall what I ordered the previous time, but I remember my husband and I left with a similar impression; we weren't wowed by our meals. Nonetheless, it's a cozy spot and we enjoyed our night out.
So disappointed in Mistral. For such a restaurant I was surprised to not been asked for my coat when I arrived. Also, forget about the dress code on the website as sneakers and sports jackets seemed pretty commonplace. Our food arrived with the sort of speed you'd expect of a diner and our unsubstantial $257 meal for two was over in 100 minutes. While the food was of good quality and our waitress was polite and attentive, I would not judge the greeting, service or ambience to be fine dining. Covers through the door seems more important than the dining experience itself. Very over priced and I can't recommend it.
We were very disappointed. Terrible service. Bartenders where inefficient and rude. Did not make eye contact. Server and food runner made it worse. Food runner was rude and unprofessional, server made us feel rushed trough out the entire experienced. Lack of motivation and knowledge. Server never checked on us, only to rushed us trough ordering. I will feel enbarrased to bring business people over, nonetheless a significant other for a special occasion. Tumbs up for the hostess at the door, the only people doing their job right. Good food but With so many great options around the area Will probably not going back.
We really loved celebrating our anniversary at Mistral. The service and ambiance were fantastic and we enjoyed the food. Although, we were not impressed with the cheese plate, the foie gras was phenomenal and so was the chocolate torte. The beef entree was very good as well. Overall great experience!
The food is fantastic as always, however the service this time around was horrendous. I went here for a birthday dinner with my girlfriend (I called ahead to let them know) yet we were left waiting for long periods of time without any attention from our server. She was actually rude at one point because we did not want to buy a bottle of wine and opted for a glass instead (It was a Tuesday night) Very unfriendly and at times, rude. Sad to see this since I have loved dining at Mistral for several years. They certainly did not live up to the highest level of service I had been accustomed to.
We were there for brunch. Very poor service left a bad taste in our mouths. I requested a side order of broccolini and it arrived after I had finished my meal. We didn't see our waiter for 20 - 25 minutes at a time. Had been there for dinner at least four times. Now we wouldn't consider coming back.
Very noisy ambiance. Table was sandwiched next to a large column that made serving awkward. The service was erratic and a bit unprofessional, including spilling a greasy spoon on the back of my sport coat (restaurant immediately picked up the tab for art cleaning). Food was generally OK but not great. Duck was on the bone, tough, hard to carve, and gluppy. Halibut was good but not exceptional. Ditto for the sword fish and salmon. Overall, our experience was that Mistral has the potential, but failed for us, to meet expectations.
The food was some of the best we've ever had - prepared to order, arrived hot, tasted wonderful. The service was reasonably good - a bit impersonal. However, the experience was ruined by the earsplitting noise - it was beyond loud and after a while we stopped shouting at each other to be heard because we were getting hoarse. We won't be back.
Seriously couldn’t have been better. I was able to order a custom cake for my girlfriends 30th Birthday. They took care of my friends 199 different allergies. Gave us a great table. Couldn’t have been more accommodating to me and my family on a very very important night. Mistral, you have my business for life. Thank you isn’t enough.
AMBIANCE-a first impression, was aesthetically pleasing, but the noise level was so high, making dining conversation difficult for normal level; the space perhaps could use some elements for sound absorption. Hence, not a great date night or romance spot.
SERVICE-well to begin with the reservation request for an "end" of banquet seat was ignored, even though reservations were made way in advance and plenty of end seating was available. Trying to ignore that; our server was excellent, introduced himself, communicated well throughout and timed our meal courses wonderfully. The server assist, brought bread and spread but neglected to tell us what the spread was we had to catch and ask. The runner brought our appetizer order without so much as a hello, just put the plates down...
FOOD-Bread was excellent, cocktails-limited by measure and pricey (why must restaurants place such a markup on cocktails (?) considering it an appetite stimulant---the cost of 2 cocktails could have bought a bottle). Ahi Tuna tartar was good, a solid appetizer with Asian flare, Dover Sole, a rare find on a menu was prepared well, served a top sauteed spinach ($60). Wine list ample, desert menu could be more creative, nothing special there.
OVERALL-While I have read from other reviews that Mistral could compare to Deuxave; I would beg to differ and say Mistral is not in the same category. Some training could be useful for service with recognition of requests and service staff engagement. This is an easily accessible restaurant in an area of high competition, and considering the menu, noise level and price point; I would say it was OK, nothing special.
