Service was great but food was meh. No taste, bland food. Disappointing.
They beat my expand had great food along with great service. We will be going again for sure. The bao are fatty and much lighter than most. Great job!
Horrible night. Server barely stopped by long enough to ask us ‘still or sparkling’ and the rest of the night we were ignored. Food was ok, highlight was ahi tuna crudo. The cauliflower was horrible. Won’t be going back. Ever.
Was excited to go but wasn’t impressed. Some interesting dishes but nothing blew us away. One dish that had pork belly, the meat tasted like it was a piece of ham from Humptys.
Love the vibe and the food is spectacular!!! All around awesome!
It got really loud really fast! (Are there no quiet restaurants anymore?) Service was excellent. Food was okay. We enjoyed ourselves, but the items they had on the menu simply didn't "wow" us.
Cocktails were amazing, Music Amazing, Service was good but they missed like 2 items and doubled up on 1. Food was just ok.
Otherwise .... drink away!
The service was exceptional! Everyone we interacted with was fantastic and I truly believe this is such an important part of a dining experience that is often not as focused on.
The food was great for the items that we liked, overall 8/10 on the food. The price point was a bit high, but the ingredients are thoughtfully sourced and I can appreciate that. The ambiance was top notch! I love the decor and the atmosphere of the place! Will definitely come back!
Amazing Vegan options! Staff, service and ambiance were great!!! Highly recommend!
Super amazing!! Will definitely be back!!
The servers and the manager were extremely abrupt. We had requested for a high table however we were placed on a side corner table. We were asked to move as the table was booked for another party however after moving to the bar, the table that we made available was not occupied for another half hour after. On our second seating, we requested a glass of wine and we were refused and were asked again that we need to leave the restaurant as other customers were to occupy our table. Will never go back!! Manager's name was Timo - simply horrible and called me a liar.
First time visiting Mister Chen's since hearing about it and it was awesome! We came on a Saturday night around 10PM and the music was great, ambiance very inviting and comfortable, and the food we tried was delicious. Prices are higher than average but the experience is unique.
What a fun night we had! Our server greeted us at the door and walked us to our table like we were old friends of hers. She explained to us how the menu worked and recommend a couple cocktails based off what we liked and they were unreal! One was a green tea tequila drink and the other was an orange bourbon drink. Then she recommended what food to get and described what we got as it came to the table. The potstickers are life changing! It was such a fun, unique experience that I’ll have to come back! Ask for Savannah because she made the night that much better!
Absolutely hated the music, loud rap crap! Doesn’t matter how good the food is, or the service or the nice bartender, loud horrible music ruins an otherwise good dining experience.
Our server fantastic, and the food and drinks were amazing! Fun atmosphere!
Amazing food, with great plating and ambience. Detailed servers who were clear to let us know all the unique elements of each dish. Order the Maison De Grand Cremant to compliment your meal perfectly!
Food was great, service could have been better. When we walked in, the hostess was on the phone but several staff were chatting behind the bar and did not acknowledge us. We debated leaving the restaurant altogether but decided to give it a chance. After we were seated, our server was not very attentive; water glasses were empty and had to request for more water. We also noted that the table next to us had the same request. When we went to pay, had to walk up to the bar to get attention and we found our server texting on his phone. Maybe we will go back but likely not for a few months.
The food was delish, full of umami like flavours. The service was horrible, we had several orders brought to the table that were not meant for us, the wait staff seem to be lacking experience. Music got louder as the night went on, but good tunes. Love the atmosphere and cocktails were great too. I recommend Rumble in the Bronks.
The food was amazing, the drinks were excellent, the ambience outstanding and the service perfect.
Food was mediocre while ambiance was neat though. Service was also underwhelming.
Loved the vibe and decor!! I really want this place to work out because it has potential. Unfortunately the service was not very good and the food was not done well. We ordered the spicy tuna on crispy rice. The rice was so crispy it was hard to chew. We ordered the lam bian dish and our table couldn’t eat it because it was so spicy our mouths were on fire. Ordered the charred cabbage and it was so salty.
This place has lots of potential if they can improve food and service!
The food was great, a little over priced for potion size though.
The server was great! My friend and I were having a long overdue chat, so we were not in a huge rush to order or drink - the server was patient and engaging throughout the whole experience! Even though it was a busy Saturday night, we didn’t feel rushed or pushed out.
Thanks mister Chen’s!
Most excellent food and service. Can’t wait to go back
Great but wine was over priced.
Can’t go wrong with any of the menu items, we tried the fried rice, wild boar potstickers, octopus tacos, ahi tuna crudo, scallop and salmon sashimi, cumin lamb biang biang, mushroom wonton. All great hits.
The unique decor, service and cocktails made the experience that much better.
The service is really what would keep me coming back. Great waitress, free dessert, friendly staff all around, and amazing cocktails by the bartender.
Had a dish that was quite oversalted, but everything else was enjoyable. Would return.
On Valentine's Day the food took forever to get to the table, drinks slightly less than forever. Ordered three Bao, they brought one out, then the other two took 30-45 minutes. Manager comped us two other appies we had ordered. The Bao was really good, to be fair, and the food prices are reasonable. The other food was fine but not really my type. Very loud bar type restaurant, so conversation is a bit forced. Cocktails are Paris/ London level expensive; taste good, but it's less likely to catch a buzz at $16 per. Tip prompts start at 15% with a handy shaming guide (good/ better/ great/ amazing!) to force you to tip more for the wait staff that has recently received 30% raises. So on my poor service, i was basically forced to tip 15%, which should be the new standard in the $15/hr minimum wage world, rather than the floor. Doubt i'd go again on purpose cause the food isn't my type and the service was spotty. But it is a "cool" place to buy overpriced cocktails, so, whatever.
Great cocktails, superb service and amazing food. It is very noisy but that’s what a full house sounds like!! Love going there!
My Wife and I had Valentine’s Day lunch at her suggestion - she had heard about Mr Chen’s. Service was very good- very engaged and knowledgeable waiter. Food was pretty good but not outstanding 3 of four of our dishes were quite good - would try it again based on the food alone. That said, the music was terrible - they were playing foul rap music which was completely out of character with the restaurant concept and vibe of the place. A management was there (or at least he appeared to be a manager) and seemed oblivious to the issue (apparently he was the one who was playing the music) - maybe i am not the target customer but I just don’t get it. For a restaurant with that cuisine and price point, their choice of music was terrible. I think they will have to pay better attention to who their customers if they want a shot at making it.
Great experience at Mr. Chen’s. The food was all expertly prepared and tasted great. The cocktail list is fun and there is some good value on the wine list. I will be back...hopefully soon.
Amazing food and lovely staff !
Simon was amazing! Food was incredible! Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambience.
The ambiance is good. We arrived early and left before the DJ. Noise level was really loud around 8:45. The food was mediocre. We have done quite a bit of enjoying fine dining in Calgary , so have tasted the best. The hot and sour chowder was ok. It was not hot and really did not have a taste. The tomahawk short rib was nothing special. We waited over 3/4 of an hour for our banana spring rolls that came way after our tea arrived. We got about 1/C of hot water for tea. All in all not great. We were expecting something new and different and did not find it here.
We had heard great things and were looking forward to all the hype and “ vibe” and wow what a disappointment. Our waitress was clearly under the influence.. of something she would join the table and force her favourites and talk over questions we had about the menu while dropping causal F bombs. She was sitting on men’s laps and acting like a call girl. She was a mess to our table and the table beside us .. wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend it.
Lovely little spot! All the food was delicious and service was fantastic.
We loved all the food with the exception of the wild boar potstickers. The flavour and texture was not the best though they all were eaten. Best fried rice anywhere in the world!!
