Mission Ratings and Reviews
Stopped in on Monday for happy hour & dinner with a college friend. Overall, we had a great experience — great prices, yummy margaritas, and a really nice waiter. My only issue is that the things that were specifically described as mild (like the guacamole) were too spicy for me to eat. This also applied to things on the menu that weren't described as spicy, so I was kind of bummed.
In any case, I recommend the portobello tacos. They're delicious!
They were out of a number of items which seemed strange for a Saturday night (ginger beer, dark rum, modelo, and a few other things) but the drinks & food we got were good. House margaritas are always good here, especially during happy hour. Transitioned to more of a club scene around 10-11 and the DJ was great.
The noise level made it nearly impossible for conversation... and we were in the back area, which was slightly better than the other. Still needed to shout into each other’s ear. The margaritas had a strong kick, the guacamole was ok. My friend and I both tried the taco trio... each of us had a hit or miss experience. With so many great restaurants in this city, I wouldn’t go back.
I loved stopping by mission, as always! I bring my parents here when they are in town because they love good fajitas, strong margaritas, and a beautiful atmosphere (you have to see the art inside). Mission checks off all the boxes in their book! I get the fajitas platter with chicken & carnitas and its packed with juicy flavor without being too overwhelmingly greasy. This can definitely be shared between two. The margaritas are incredible and they are on happy hour special during the weekdays from 5-7pm. This makes a great deal for working people looking to grab a drink or two after work in the dupont area. My servers are always kind, courteous, and quick with their service. Mission is somewhat loud during happy hour so I would suggest if you have a date night or business meeting to do it after 7pm. However it’s the perfect environment if you’re looking for a happy hour vibe. 5 stars! Follow us on Instagram: eatsandbeatsDC
The restaurant is typically quite noisy although they will tone down the music if asked. The sangria and beer pitchers during happy hour are good when with a crowd. The guacamole is mediocre and bland. The tacos are tasty and you have a choice of flour or corn shells. Everyone enjoyed their food selections .
My husband and I sat outside for Sunday Bottomless Brunch. The weather was perfect and there was a street food market happening while we were eating. The service was excellent. The drinks came timely. The Bloody Mary was not the best but the margarita was tasty. I was upset they ran out of duck after the server offered it and it was only Noon. Overall, good times.
The food was great! Drinks good as well! Our Waitress was nice but not so good at her job. Messed up our drink orders twice and we got ones at the end we didn’t order. Messed up a food order and the accused my friend of ordering the one that came out. They remade it right away and all was well. We still had a great evening.
We made a reservation and ended up tucked in a back room that had a much grittier look & feel than the lovely patio. We knew reservations aren't possible for the patio but didn't expect such a disparity in how the inside would look versus the outside.
Service level was some of the poorest I can ever recall having. After 20 minutes of being seated by the host, we finally flagged the host again and had her send a server over. Server missed lots of important details throughout the meal like bringing cutlery/side plates, clearing the table after our meal (we did this ourselves after a lot of time had passed) and forgetting to offer cream /sugar for our coffees. Not too keen to go back. Pity because I was excited to try it out!
Waiter was attentive, and drinks and food came out without much wait. However, it was incredibly hot and noisy. We were all sweating and uncomfortable, and it was difficult to hear each other around a high-top table. The a/c only seemed to be working in the restroom.
I absolutely love Mission. As a food blogger ive been around the block in DC and I can 100% attest to them having EXCELLENT service, amazing hosts (who are extra accommodating), and definitely the best queso in DC. Tacos are awesome deal too because you get to mix and match and are not restrained to choosing 3 that are alike. This is a huge advantage for Mission because it gives their customers the option to test out 3 styles in one night. Although I've never been lucky enough to say outside-- you've gotta see their adorable patio. Right off DuPont circle.
Wasn't too hungry, so I only got the nachos and was disappointed that they were not as spicy as the menu description made me expect. Service was a little slow because many folk arrived during my early dinner. I kept forgetting to ask that the salt be left off my margaritas and the waitress never suggested it as her counterpart at Cafe Citron did the following night.
This place is great for bottomless brunch. Staff is very willing to make sure you have enough to drink and have enough guacamole in the two hour time frame. The biggest problem with this place is that the tables are SUPER close together and it gets REALLY loud in there.
Would definitely go back for brunch or happy hour, you do not leave hungry or sober.
Food was good. Menu was clearly marked for gluten-free options. The service was very fast--almost too fast. I especially liked the margaritas, guacamole and chorizo taco were delicious, the black bean and plantain taco was good. The carnitas taco was moist, but more bland than I expected. Overall I'd eat here again.
The restaurant was not overcrowded allowing our group to be seated right away. The service was a little slow at first but expected for a group of 9. The bottomless brunch is the way to go. Even though the pitchers are overfilled with ice they were very accommodating with bring multiple pitchers to table.
We went to Mission as we were staying at the Omni hotel while vacationing in DC. Dupont Circle is a lovely little district with all sorts of fun food options. We discovered Mission as we were walking to another restaurant and heard a passer by tell someone else that the Mission is a very popular and great restaurant, but usually requires a reservation. I therefore decided to make a reservation for another night. The food was very good. The tres tacos appeared to be a featured item so I went with those. There were about 10 different taco options so to choose from so to choose 3 was a tough call. After getting the shrimp, steak, and portobello tacos, I could not have been more pleased. The corn tortillas were fresh and each taco packed with flavor. The red and verde salsas served with the chips were also very good. My husband had a margarita which he said was good and strong, which is a good thing for him. I had my usual glass of wine. I would definitely recommend the Mission. The outdoor seating is particularly charming on a nice day/evening.
