After nearly two decades of cooking at local institution Anchor Oyster Bar in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood, veteran seafood chef Freddy Gamez left his post as head chef to open his very own restaurant: Mission Street Oyster Bar. Situated in the vibrant Mission district, the inviting restaurant serves several varieties of oysters and generous portions of the freshest fare from the sea. Classic dishes include cioppino, Dungeness crab cakes, caesar salad, prawn pastas and creamy Boston clam chowder. Local fish specials and oyster offerings change daily to ensure premium freshness and quality. Choose from a comprehensive selection of beer and wine for the perfect accompaniment to your favorite seafood dish.

Everything was really good, except the server was taking really long with the bill, our Uber was waiting outside for five minutes. I had to stand up and ask for the bill twice.

We didn't stay for our reservation, the restaurant smelled bad (dirty) and we couldn't get over that.

No host to greet us. Many guests waited a long time after us to be greeted. Insufficient wait staff personnel, compounded by their poor service skills. The wait personnel were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. There were only 3 of us for dinner. I finished my dinner before our 3rd guest was served his entree!!! Inexcusable. They forgot his appetizer: a simple oyster shooter. Although the waiters were apologetic; they were completely forgetful. My entree came out in 25 minutes; the 2nd entree came out 15 minutes later; the third entree came out another 25 minutes later! This really happened!!!! The cooks were in such a hurry that they OVERSALTED all the entrees. If it hadn't taken so long for our food, we would have sent it back. What happened here???

The oysters were fantastic. The other dishes were good, but a bit disappointing in comparison

I truly enjoy every visit to Mission Street Oyster Bar; their are several oysters options and they are fresh and shucked well. I generally come for the local Dungeness, which on my latest visit was huge and roared up all buttery and garlicky. The space is loud and a bit cold, but the service is friendly and attentive and that makes up gif it.

My hopes were high for this restaurant given that the owner was the chef at Anchor Oyster Bar. The crab and oysters were great, but the service was terrible and the place was not very clean. It was also very expensive, and small things like bread were not included. If I'm going to drop $150, I'd sure like free bread. Too bad, as there is a lot of potential for this restaurant.
