This IS a good restaurant and my 2nd time there. Ill be back 🍻
The waiters and maitre de were very helpful, friendly and solicitous. The food and drinks were all very tasty and the portions were large.
Friendly and generous service, with delicious food — we will be back.
Good food, good service. Quiet because it was a Tuesday night. Great outside dining with heaters on the weekends.
Desperate to go somewhere we could wear sweaters after a summer in Southern California we headed up to Carmel for a few days and found the cool, foggy relief we'd been craving. We also found Mission Bistro, where our server, Pablo welcomed us with fresh warm bread and excellent wine recommendations. My wife's Prosecco was as crisp and dry as he promised and, after weeks of cold beer, my Daou Cabernet was like a cashmere sweater at Christmas. It went great with my beef bourguignon, which was loaded with carrots, potatoes and perfectly done prime rib in a red wine stew as tasty as the Daou. My only regret was that I'd eaten too much of the delicious artichoke and corn fritter appetizer to finish the ample main course, or the crispy cheese bread soaked in the stew. But I came close. My wife had the special Mahi Mahi with scallops, again ample and perfectly done. Pablo came by several times, not only to check on the meal, but to add unasked for but much appreciated pours of our drinks. We floated out of the restaurant congratulating ourselves on the good fortune of picking this place for our first meal in town. It's going to be tough to beat.
The prime rib tasted like something off of a buffet. My wife had the fillet, and it was dry. The sauce on top was not edible.
I was surprised as to how empty this restaurant was when I walked in. As I was leaving, I was truly scratching my head as to why.
I had a reservation, and was seated within 60 seconds of arriving. Within another 60 seconds, I had a warm roll with a mustard sauce and a glass of ice water. The server welcomed me with an upbeat personality and a great attitude. I ordered a glass of wine and the Beef Bourguignon. The wine was served within 1-2 minutes. The dinner appeared in about ten minutes, piping hot. An ample portion, it was quite flavorful. My water glass was refilled twice, and was never empty. My wine glass was also refilled prior to it being empty. The restaurant has an open kitchen concept, so I thanked the chef for a wonderful meal, and he smiled and bowed his head to say thank you. Again, not quite sure why this place isn't jam packed, but I know I will return, maybe even tonight!
The food was very mediocre especially considering the cost. The service was very poor, half of our food was served and just sitting cold on the table before the rest arrived 10 minutes later. Definitely recommend going to rise and roam just down the street
Had dinner here while vacationing. The appetizers were good-chips and salsa, Caesar salad and crab cakes. Main dishes were a disaster. Short ribs were ridiculously dry and the meat itself might have been old (inedible bad) and the lobster ravioli cloyingly sweet (sugar added sweet) a leave it in the plate bad dish.
Service was slow took 1 hr 45 min from seating to leaving asap, and we are fast eaters.
Great food, personable service. We left feeling we had a wonderful dinner at an old friend’s house.
Great, generous meals, good outdoor space, pleasant staff.
Awesome food and awesome staff! Thank you for the great experience :)
The food here is consistently delicious and hot! I’ve never had a bad meal here. The service is superb, with caring and charismatic staff. I’ve recommended Mission Bistro to many people and they have all been impressed as well.
Great food . A lot of food. Quiet at first than extremely loud diners.
The food was good—better than we expected. Service was sufficient. The location is good, less than a block off Ocean Avenue. The downside was the noise level. Too loud for us to hear each other talk and enjoy any kind of conversation over dinner. What spoiled it for us was mostly the small group of men drinking at the bar that is right in the dining area. The restaurant owner should somehow address the acoustic issues of the space.
Fantastic service and delicious food! Loved our outdoor table!
Very accommodating. We had our 2 small dogs so we sat in side alley. Had a heater next to our table. Had a nice time.
Worst service ever. Waited 20 minutes to order desert and then another 30 before we could get a waiter to come back to the table. Never got our desert and took another 10 minutes to get the check. Never left a $1 tip before, normally very generous but terrible service. To top it off our waiter was accusatory like it was our fault.
If you like mediocre food and terrible service, this is the place for you.
I have never left a restaurant angry before. Wish I had those 2 hours of my life back.
Stopped here with my daughter while traveling through town. She had the carbonara, while I had lobster bisque and a Caesar salad. Food came out quickly, servings were huge, and everything was delicious. Would definitely return!
Overpriced and my short rib entree was cold. I had to send it back. It returned hot but not at all tender. Very disappointing especially given the glowing reviews for this restaurant.
The food and service were fantastic! They have a great menu with many dishes to choose from. The owner stopped by our table and chatted for a bit about their menu, chef, etc. We really enjoyed our dinner and are looking forward to our next visit.
Mission Bistro was very friendly and helpful, their location on Mission was a bit busy but comfortable and there was good room (we asked for outdoor dining). Food was excellent, everything flavorful and a good selection of different dishes.
The staff and food were exceptional. Many restaurants during/after COVID have had a negative impact with service and quality of food. NOT this one-excellent all around. The owner was present and it made a huge difference in the experience.
Great, well priced wine list. Delightful service and outside tables with heat lamps were great. Artichoke fritters and hurrays salad were the highlights. Seafood skillet delicious. Short rib and lamb shank were dry and not at the same level. Coffee could definitely use an upgrade.
Terrible dining experience. We were sat in an stinky alley, next to the kitchen were we could here the cooks cussing. Waiters didn’t check on us. Worst sitting and service ever.
Servers were working hard, but understaffed. The food was nothing special, but good experience overall
Wonderful experience! Great staff & fantastic food!
We arrived a little early for a 7:30 reservation, and the hostess greeted us and seated us early. The table service was very good, and the food arrived quickly. The open kitchen, coupled with the brick and plaster walls and a loud crowd made the restaurant very loud. The menu was eclectic; food quality was good and portions were ample size. Two people can share an appetizer, salad and one entree and be satisfied.
Food…Even more amazing!!
Banana bread pudding…The Best!
Go for lunch and then you will want return for dinner!!
I'm glad that you could come up with some food from the dinner menu during our lunch visit. Thank you.
Superb service!!! Everyone was welcoming and checked on us often to make sure everything is okay. The Bolognese and Scampi were delish and the Sangrias, red and white, both were great! It would have been nice if they had some complimentary bread.
Excellent food. Good menu wine by the glass is a good value. Very friendly staff
Very nice staff! Nice atmosphere and service. Food very good!
The food was “fine” but not crave worthy. The service a bit poor. We waited over 15 minutes to be welcomed by our server for the first time and it didn’t get much better after that.
Kind and attentive service. Very good meal. Very much liked the banana bread pudding.
Great food, nice setting - sidewalk dining, they were kind enough to call and confirm because it was a little windy - and very professional, attentive service. 6/6 in our group, which was young (4) to old (79)!
Lunch was great!!! House wine was awesome!!!!!
Blackened salmon was outstanding!
