Mise en Place Ratings and Reviews
We're old customers, though we hadn't been to the remodeled restaurant until last Wednesday, November 8. We liked the decor, though the room was a bit dark. The service was exemplary, the bread delicious, and the main dishes, satisfactory. However, the oyster appetizer was disappointing. We've been fortunate enough to enjoy superior oysters, so the small ones we shared compared poorly. All in all, it was gratifying to see that this fine establishment was celebrating a 31 year anniversary. Truly a remarkable achievement.
We were in town for one evening and it was our anniversary. The restaurant was delightful.
There were so many things we wanted to try, so we ordered 7 apps instead of mains.
Our server immediately knew what we wanted and took great care of us. Also great wine list.
A wonderful evening. We’ll be back
Tradition dictates that I take Mary, another Breakfast Goddess, for a birthday lunch in Tampa even though we reside in St. Petersburg. I know in the past she has been hesitant whenever Mise en Place has been mentioned but off we went. We were a few minutes late but no problem with the reservation and we were seated immediately. Service was spot on and the food was delicious. We shared a Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer and there was some left over for the birthday girl to take home to her husband. And they were accommodating about the amount of heat in the sauce. The sandwiches were plentiful and again leftovers were available. On short notice they put a candle in the White Chocolate Almond Cake. Most importantly the noise level was low. My daughter tells me that I always complain about the noise level in most restaurants but this was perfect, just enough to let you know that others were around but not so loud that we could not hear each other. After the meal, we discussed our impressions and it was decided we would come again and bring our husbands.
Based on the reviews my group was disappointed in the food and the presentation. The interior is very nice but we felt like we were dinning in a library. Tampa has many good restaurants serving an upscale menu with interesting choices and great food. Mise ne Place falls short of their competition with the menu items. The food quality fails to match the high end price of the entrees on the menu. I was disappointed with the wine by the glass selections. It appears they short pour the wine by the glass as mine was not the usual 5.5 oz of wine by the glass. There are too many restaurants in Tampa serving better food at better prices. Based on this experience a
return visit is unlikely.
Food was excellent for the most part. I think it is one of the best restaurants in Tampa, and I just realize why we don’t go more often. It is so old school stuffy as far as the vibe and ambience it seems to be going for. ( and we are old!). We believe that we actually had to wait a while before being seated, even tho we had a reservation, because we were dressed casually ( button down shirts and khakis for the men and a nice outfit that I would wear to work). And then, we were seated in a back room with others more casually dressed. Those in the main areas of the restaurant were wearing cocktail attire. I truly believe more people would go there more often if they toned that whole suit and tie thing way down. The food is so good and creative! I bet Marty Blitz does not want to put on a jacket when he dines! This is Florida and this is 2017. Lighten up and we will come back.
Culinary delight! Every course was unique and extremely tasty. Presentation of food was beautiful. Only critique was that the table was a bit small for four adults as it was against a wall which took away valuable elbow room when dining. Will definitely return (but will request table which offers more elbow room).
We typically get the "Get Blitzed" tasting menu created by the amazing Chef Marty Blitz with wine paired for each course by on-site sommelier Katie Povey. Once again, Chef Blitz's creation gave a hint of Autumn with hearty comfort food tones throughout each perfectly constructed course. If you're a foodie who desires the most well-rounded dining experience, Mise is THE Place to go. Chef Blitz changes his tasting menu frequently. Every couple of weeks is something completely different.

Took my niece to this special restaurant before a concert at the Amalie Arena. Appreciated that they asked if we were attending a show and what our targeted departure time would be and that time was met. We shared several appetizers for our meal and all were delicious and well presented—beef carpaccio, seared scallops, and fried green tomato salad. The bread was nice also. Split a reasonably priced bottle of Chalk Hill. Wait staff was attentive and professional. Thank you for the perfect send-off for Bruno Mars!
Mise en Place never fails to please.
The food is “spot on”, the staff is superb, and the ambiance is perfect for anything from proposing to birthday celebrations, to “just an evening out”.
If you are interested in fine dining, this is a restaurant that should be on your “bucket list”.
Food is WORLD CLASS as normal. Was SEVERELY overcharged by a server for drinks.
I expect to pay a lot for Mise En Place... I’m ok with that. The FOOD is certainly worth every penny. I do not expect to be taken advantage of and cheated over something as meaningless as cocktails. It’s sad to have such a rookie mistake ruin a whole evening.
Expect amazing food, it never disappoints. Check your bill very closely.... my server added-in extra fees to boost the bottom line hoping to increase their 20% tip.
Quick summary: food was great, service was mediocre at best.
I have eaten at Mise en Place numerous times -- usually for dinner, but also for lunch as well as after dinner desert/drinks. The food is always creative, well-presented, and delicious.
That said, the service during my visit this Friday was less than stellar. I had made a reservation about a week or so in advance via OpenTable. In the comments I mentioned that I would be celebrating my anniversary (20th!) and that I'd prefer a table with a view.
We arrived a little before our reservation time and were seated at a small two-top that was literally in the pathway of anyone who needed to get by us. While most of the tables are adjacent to a wall, this one was literally in the middle of everything. Not comfortable, not romantic, frankly it was ridiculous. After sitting for a moment, we requested that we be relocated to a two-top that was cozier and right next to where we were seated. Our waiter (who we have had before) was kind and complied with our request.
We wondered if we were the only ones who had a problem with the table, but literally the next couple who was seated there did the exact same thing...requested to be moved and were moved.
After we were moved, service went downhill fast. We waited a full 25 minutes before our new waiter even took our drink order. No description of specials, talk of menu, recommendations or even really pleasantries. We asked to share a starter, then bring out salads as a second course, and then our mains. The starter came out with my wife's salad. Then my salad came out. Then the mains courses. After desert/coffee our first waiter brought over two glasses of champagne. A nice touch that would have been more appropriate at the beginning of the meal.
Everything was tasty, but the rhythm of the evening was off and the service was below expectations. Not sure I will be rushing back, which is a shame in that this is one of the few inspired menus in Tampa.
I was looking forward to dinning here all week. The service was great and I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant. The food, however, was lackluster. For the price, I expected the food to be more creative and flavorful. The seared scallops were way too salty, but I did enjoy the hot/cold mixture served with the scallops. To be fair, everything was cooked perfectly and the food presentation was lovely. It was only the lack of flavor that was disappointing to me.
