First time visit, the chef zucchini soup they offer was amazing, the drinks were okay, the calamari appetizer was delicious, the chicken wasn’t that great, I thought of sending it back thinking it would get better, but just ate the veggies around the dish, my husbands steak was amazing, our server was amazing, super helpful and attentive. Didn’t save room for desert, the crowd is definitely a variety, intimate place. The booth is nice, however the chairs are super uncomfortable. Aside from the chicken that had no flavor, the hostess might need a bit training, to question my reservation for being 3 minutes late on a super busy weekend, is ridiculous question in silence and then bring it to my attention if need be.
We very much enjoyed a quick meal at Mise en Place before attending an evening program at the Henry Plant Museum across the street. We told our server, Lisa, that we had only an hour, and she was extremely accommodating. She took our order promptly, brought everything we ordered at the proper pace (given our overall tight schedule), and was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine offerings. Thank you, Lisa! The food was well prepared and delicious. Although we enjoyed our experience overall, we did note that the decor is starting to look a bit dated--it seems quite dark when compared to some of the newer notable Tampa restaurants. Perhaps some updating is in order?
Premiere visite avec mes amis. Deux d’entre nous avons commandé menu dégustation avec vins d’accompagnement. Menu comprenant entrée froide de homard servie sur un lit d’asperges et edamame pas trop goûteux suivi entrée effilochée de lapin vraiment très bonne. 3 eme service de cotelettes d’agneau(2) servies non pas rosées mais saignantes....cependant, bien apprètées et bien présentées. Je dois dire que l’accord mets/vins était bien fait et apprécié.
Le dessert quand à lui ,selon mes amis qui l’on consommé, gâteau au fromage praliné au caramel était très bon.
Bref j’y reviendrai surement dans quelque temps mais ce n’est pas wow!
My husband and I went for our anniversary. The food was heaven! It might be one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The lobster poutine is out of this world. We split an entree and my husband wanted rack of lamb. It is not usually on the top of my list, but to my delight, it was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever tasted! Our server was wonderful and although the food is pricey, are server was not stuffy in the least. Extremely down to earth and knowledgeable. She gave us champagne to celebrate our anniversary. We spent about $200 on the food and wine. Worth every penny for our celebration!
Mise En Place is always enjoyable. We routinely dine here with friends, but tonight was our 30th wedding anniversary. The wait staff treated us exceptionally well (as always) and they ensured our evening had extra special touches like champagne and "Happy Anniversary" edible signs in our dessert - all without any input from us. Chef Blitz's tasting menu can't be beat. Maryann Ferenc's establishment is absolutely the best in Tampa.
An underwhelming experience for both food and service. While the foie gras was good, our main-dish orders of venison, the seared tuna and the lamb chop were disappointing. I have eaten venison before and enjoyed tremendously, I would not say the venison was prepared with any imagination or even cooked to a good taste. The lamb chop had too much seasoning and crust on it, also a disappointment. Service was spotty and the server seemed focused on other issues other than keeping our table attended to. This was not the dining experience I expected, and was disappointed.
The food and service were great as always. The parking is terrible and is going to stay that way as they have lost their parking lot to a condo. I know the have valet but that is still not a s good. You have to tip them and you have to wait. I'm sure they did all that they could to keep it out but this is bad. It will discourage patrons from coming or going at night.
I have been going to this restaurant since they were on platt st. Also loved their Mac dill av location while it lasted. Has always been a fav go to place through the decades. And???? Sadly. For my husbands birthday? Worst meal I’ve ever had there. Worst table I’ve ever gotten there even with a week ahead of time reservation. Our server was a very inexperienced bar tender who had been given a few tables near the bar. Nice young man. But not quite ready for table service? And certainly? We will be back. But. It might take a while
A fairly frequent diner at Mise en Place, we had a great meal. We like specific tables and are usually accommodated We also love Annette our server who is ‘knowledgeable about the food and very helpful. She is a valuable part of the experience. Is Place is not cheap but really a great dining value all in all. We will be back soon. W
I have dined at Mise en Place many times, the food and drinks are always top notch. On this recent occasion I was with a party of six friends for our annual Christmas dinner night out - this is not the first time we have picked Mise en Place for our outing and as always the dinner was a treat. Unfortunately about 2/3 of the way through the evening our waiter started ignoring our table to the point of rudeness. Although we witnessed him spending 10-15 minutes chatting with nearby tables we had to flag him down for additional drink orders, etc, and then finally for the check...which he had to correct twice and was less than pleasant in doing so. The service towards the end of the meal put a big damper on the evening for us all. As I stated, this wasn’t our first experience at the restaurant so we know this is not the restaurant’s normal standard of service. We will be back and we will continue to recommend the restaurant to others as one of the best in Tampa Bay.
We were seated in the front area of the restaurant - a section with tables along the walls with the exception of 2 small tables squished in the aisle of the smaller area of this section. My 6'6" BF and I were seated at 1 of these small aisle tables. These meant we were privy to the constant back and forth of staff and guests and had butts in our face for 70% of our 'experience'. We got to enviously look at 3 tables along the walls that were open for the entire 2 hours of our dining experience. We also watched another unfortunate couple get seated right next to a loud group of 4 while those 3 lovely tables sat empty waiting for some 'more important' ghost guests without reservations to possibly appear. Does Mise en Place not want parties of 2? My recommendation to the owners - sit through an entire meal at one of the uncomfortable 2 top tables on a busy evening and evaluate if they are the experience you want to present to your guests.
Server was not as polished and familiar with the menu as I expected. Food was good but not completely unique and amazing like i expected.
Failed to meet my high expectations.
If this had been my first visit to Mis en Place it would have also been my last. However, since I've been patronizing this restaurant for the entire 30 years of its existence, I know that they are capable of producing outstanding food. Our last experience was pretty awful overall.
We went for a late lunch, arriving at 1:30. There was one harassed waiter servicing the half dozen occupied tables. My husband and I decided to split an appetizer and salad so that we would have room for dessert as it was my birthday. Many of the appetizers sounded delicious but we eventually settled on fried green tomatoes. Big mistake. The tomatoes were supposed to come with a buttermilk sauce and a pepper sauce . It was hidden under the tomatoes and there was so little of it that it gave very little flavor to the dish. By the time we got the waiters attention and asked for additional sauce, the dish was cold and greasy. The coating fell off as we were eating it and the tomatoes were barely cooked.
The salad which was billed as a Peruvian potato salad with shrimp grilled with some spicy seasonings turned out to be a huge pile of arugula accompanied by 4 shrimp and a tostone (fried plantain) that was fried so hard that I couldn't cut it with a knife and had absolutely no taste when bitten into. The shrimp tasted of iodine. When I complained about these two things to the waiter, nothing was done. There was no offer to replace the items or even an I'm sorry. The potatoes were diced so small, they were almost impossible to find among the arugula and they were rock hard. The salad dressing was decent but neither of us finished our portions.
The only redeeming grace of the meal was the dessert which was layers of crispy filo dough sandwiched with a lovely chocolate mousse.
I expressed the statements above to the waiter at the end of the meal, he did get permission to comp the green tomatoes. Definitely not one of our better experiences there.
Currently parking is a huge problem. After waiting for ages we had to ask the hostess to have a waiter come over and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Waiter said he was waiting for our fourth to arrive, but we three were thirsty and the fourth didn't make it after all. My shrimp salad was disappointing. Three lovely shrimp lots of arugula but no ceviche anywhere and no dressing. This was my first bad dining experience at Mis en Place. Hopefully parking will improve.
Very nice ambiance. The food was great. Everyone in our party loved everything they ordered. The waiter was very pleasant and understanding that we were on a time constraint due to a show. Traffic was awful and we were about 25 minutes late for our reservations. The food came out in time and we were off!! We would definitely go back, hopefully, for a more relaxed, longer experience.
W have been eating at Mise en Place for years and have never been disappointed. Saturday was no exception. The cheese course was great. My wife enjoyed her venison and I have trouble getting past the rack of lamb. Crème Brulee was magnificent. This is a wonderful dining experience.
