   Excellent food and service staff. I highly recommend Minton’s Playhouse to anyone looking for the best in dinning and jazz.

   Nice looking spot, but the food was HORRIBLE. Very nice staff. Nice jazz. Unfortunately, because of the food, I would not return.

   Great food and the Jazz was even better! Definitely a hidden gem in the middle of Harlem in a nice area with great service and the music is what you’d expect in New York City! Classy and elegant as well as great acoustics and the largest jazz band I’ve ever seen! Will definitely go back again next time I’m in New York City!

   The music was great, everything else was not. When you go out to a jazz club or an expensive restaurant, you expect the person that greets you at the door and seats you to make you feel welcome. The person here makes no effort whatsoever to do that, you are treated more like an unwanted child rather than a guest. I know they have to keep order and keep things moving, but other places do that with a smile instead of a grouch. The same person has been at that job for at least a couple of years, I remember from the last time I was there. I have to imagine, he is related to the owner, otherwise anyone could see he does not have the personality to do that job. The waitress service was more friendly and competent. Before the music came on, we had to listen to a long sales pitch for a local jazz festival. I like being informed of other jazz events but I didn't think the guy was ever going to stop talking. Before each set, they played a video about the history of the club. The video is also on their website. It is an interesting and informative video but how many times do I have to watch it? It is like getting on a plane and having to watch the safety demonstration over and over again. My date was a vegetarian and her grilled vegetables were very good. My dish was supposed to be gluten free but I had a gluten reaction to it the next day. My first drink was very weak so I switched to wine. The neighborhood is now very lively and eclectic. We did not feel uneasy or unsafe, in any way, walking from the subway to the club. The club has a very good sound system which fills the room with music without sounding distorted or fake. Despite all the negatives, I still rated the place good because I loved the music.

   If you’re looking for a one of a kind New York experience Cecil’s restaurant and Minton’s Jazz club are the places to go. The staff is incredible, the food is delicious, and the music is phenomenal. I had the calamari in Cecil’s which was prepared with jalapeño peppers, and the fish tacos in the club. That night I listened to JC Hopkins Biggish Band, a perfectly packed stage, and two singers who are absolutely incredible, their scat brilliant.

   We were very excited to dine and listen to live jazz where all the greats have played. However, it seems we picked the wrong night as a group of 20-30 women graced us with their annoying and loud presence and chit-chat. They were at times louder than the performers, which really sucked for the couples like us there who wanted to enjoy the music (and we were two tables from the stage). The ambiance is perfect, the food was great, our server tho overwhelmed with that group was very pleasant and professional. The music from what we could enjoy was wonderful. This group caused a 4 rating. We will def go back and try the experience again. What’s the likelihood of an obnoxious 30 top again while we’re there?! 😂

   My friend and I have been meaning to go to this spot because of its historical significance and reputation and we were over the moon by our experience. The decor is vibrant, the drinks are very good and the musicians we listened to (I don’t recall their names) were spectacular!

    We booked dinner and jazz and ended up being told the club was reserved for a private party and we needed to go next door to Cecil's. Once there, they didn't have a reservation for us at all. They had no music, and instead we were seated with very loud dinner guests. The reason for this book was to listen to music with dinner which we did not get. If we knew there had been a private party in the jazz club, we would have gone somewhere else. The food itself, was average or below; ordering fish tacos, usually the tacos are soft, but these were very hard and stuffed with nothing great. The server was very pleasant.
