Mim’s Restaurant - Roslyn Ratings and Reviews
It was very crowded and we were seated in the bar. I asked if we could wait for a table in the restaurant and was told no and if we did not take this table that was it. The bar was so loud we could not talk to the other couple and it was cold as we were seated by the door in the back of the bar
The waiter came over to check how the food was and if we needed anything after we were pretty much finished
I have always loved going to Mims as the food is great but
am really going to think about it now or at least never go on a Saturday night which is a pity as we love to take Friends there for special occasions
Food was very good. The service was acceptable but it took an hour to get our meals after our apps. The waiter just avoided us after we asked how much longer. I will go back to give it another try. The food was very good and judging by the crowd, it must be consistently good food.
Dining experience was just OK. Food was generally fine but two dishes had to be sent back because they were cold, and two others were also not served at the proper temperature. The waitress was professional however during dinner no one asked if everything was satisfactory. Noise level was high but I guess that's to be expected on a busy Friday evening.
My expectation was based on the reviews that I read and the price of the meal. There were issues from the onset to the end, some small, some large. I went there with my wife and we waited a long time despite having reservations - including being passed twice by people who walked in, seated a table that wasn't cleaned with dinnerware which wasn't properly cleaned (still had particles of food on it), extremely slow service (long wait for food; finished my drink and I didn't see the waiter until the end of my entree before he asked me if I wanted another). And it wasn't all that busy in the restaurant either. Acceptable for a hole-in-the-wall type of venue, but not a place where entrees run $25pp. Pretty disappointed
Took the entire family after going to Old Westbury Gardens for the "Rise of the Jack o' Lanterns! Had a real down home kind of meal, the Chicken Pot Pie, and it was everything you'd want in this perfect "comfort food"...absolutely delicious!! The entire family was thrilled with their choices...very enjoyable end to the evening!!
My third time here, which is why I am peeved at the experience after so many other good ones. Food is good. Server was attentive. Restaurant was so busy-meals were served wrong which were corrected. Bread service was delayed but eventually served.
We wrapped up our evening & went to our car parked on the street. We'd parked there due to a completely filled lot. We've parked on the streets before, but apparently—SATURDAY NIGHTS, specifically from 7pm -midnight, there is NO PARKING. Who would've thought? I wish the restaurant would've divulge or warned patrons of this phenomenon. ROSLYN county police are out to score $$$ from unsuspecting patrons. The police car was right behind us when we parked--apparently following us(in hindsight), instead of warning us, he waited till we got out of the car & into the restaurant before striking. The incident soured our evening experience . MIMs, please warn your patrons, especially if your LOT is FULL. Patrons, think twice before parking on the street. I don't even know how much the ticket is so this MIMs meal is $$$$$.
I have been going to Mim's for years and my family and I have always enjoyed the food. Very good value and nice options. Good wine list as well. Service was ok this past visit. I haven't dined here in over a year so I think a lot of the staff is different. Our waiter came to the table a lot about ordering and I felt a bit rushed, yet the restaurant was pretty much empty at 5PM.
Have been to Mims many times, mostly because of convenient location to meet friends and the food is good. However, the last few times the kitchen has been incredibly slow. On this visit the server came promptly, took our orders and we received our drinks and salad promptly. We then waited an hour before our entrees were served. The server did not come back to us unless we called him over for refills. When we asked about our food, he responded with "I'll send over the manager". The manager came to us promptly, and apologized for the delay, and miraculously our food appeared. The manager did the right thing, taking some money off the bill and offering dessert on the house. We really like this place and continue to come back, but please do something about the kitchen.
The food was good, but we could have used a bit more attention from our waiter. We asked him several questions that he had to inquire further, so maybe he was new. I had to find him to give him our money so we could get out of there. I do like the ambiance here, it’s a nice family restaurant with many choices on the menu.
I selected this Gem in Roslyn for my Birthday this year with 4 friends...Most of the them had never visited this eatery before...We chose to be seated rather late 9:00PM on a Sat nite but the place was still very crowded....Our table was ready and the first thing I noticed was the Oktoberfest menu as a supplement to the standard menu...We ordered drinks, a few appetizers from both menus and everything that came to table was delicious...Our entrees came next and again there were no complaints from anyone....Lastly, we ordered the Dessert sampler and the Smores for four was alot of fun to eat.....At the end we were all stuffed and everyone thanked me for choosing such a solid place to eat...
Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Mims. The best part was the service. The host and waiter were friendly and helpful. Service was reasonably quick, but not rushed. The food was very good, but not exceptional. Portions were large (except for the cheesecake, which was more a sliver than a slice). My steak was well seasoned and cooked exactly as I ordered it. My wife said her sole was a little under-seasoned, but I tasted It and found it to my liking. Be forewarned, this place is very popular. You will need a reservation, and it will be crowded and noisy. Unfortunately, we were seated next to a screaming baby, which certainly put a damper on our enjoyment of the meal. Not the restaurant's fault. Mims is very popular with families and groups. Nevertheless, if I was in the area, I would eat there again.
This was our first visit and the hostess seated us in a booth in the bar when there were plenty of tables in the restaurant. Since we were meeting old friends we would have preferred a quieter table so we could talk and not have to compete with the football game in the bar area. The food was good, good service and good value.
Decent but not outstanding. Service was excellent, food was good but not great. Appetizer portions were very small, especially the fried calamari and shrimp cocktail. Of the main dishes, the roast chicken and sole oreganato lacked flavor and were borderline overcooked. Not bad enough to send back, but we wouldn't order again.
In general, it was a pleasant evening, but not as special as we were hoping.
