Mimmo's Italian Village
Mimmo's Italian Village was started by Vincenzo "Mimmo" Gaglio, originally from Montelepre, Sicily. Before arriving in San Diego, Gaglio sharpened his cooking skills in Tunisia, New York City, Ontario, California, and finally, San Diego.
There are lunch and dinner menus at Mimmo's Italian Village. For the former, you can choose items like the eggplant parmesan, fettuccine alfredo and spicy shrimp linguine. If you stop into Mimmo's Italian Village for dinner, you can enjoy popular options like the stuffed mushrooms, calamari fritti, specialty pastas or any of a number of traditional pasta dishes.
Absolutely amazing food with a wonderful atmosphere. A very romantic setting.
Good value for money, portions are big. The ambience of a old traditional Italian place, feeling like in an old Italian home. Relatively inexpensive. Food was good mostly, not mind breaking but solid good. To the negative comment - There is only one sink in the female restroom for females and there was a huge line. I think it’s definitely not enough and should be changed, the place is big and there are many customers.
The service was good, the ambiance was great and the food was the best Italian we’ve ever had!
Great service. I reserved my table on Open Table. I made a special request for a certain table and they made it happen. They were ready for us when we arrived. It was great! Our server was amazing and food was delicious
Even though we had a reservation we had to wait 10 minutes for a table, at it was a very small table in the back. We each ordered one of their "specialty" dishes, eggplant parm and cioppino. These took 45 minutes to be prepared. Although the menu just says eggplant parmesan, the dish is almost a pound of linguini topped with four round slices of eggplant! The cioppino was OK, but it took 20 minutes to extract the seafood from the shells, the shells were very hot and full of red sauce. In relation to other restaurants in the area this is overpriced for what you get. Go elsewhere for better food at a lower price and without the long wait.
Our initial risotto appetizer came out cold. We sent it back and had to wait for the cook to re make it. Otherwise the food was pretty good , however the service was a bit slow.
The food was AMAZING and our server Ignacio was very attentive and friendly
Appetizers and meal were delicious but the temperature in the restaurant was so hot
Great service with ample portions. Definitely will be back again!
We were looking forward to this meal. Unfortunately, food was extremely disappointing. One pasta dish served COLD (literally) and others over cooked. Sorry, maybe just a bad day in kitchen. Service fair. Ambience nice.
Great food that was worth the price. Setting is amazing and kind of places you somewhat in Italy with the lighting and decorations.
I love Mimmo's. The food is always amazing. I recently went for a going away dinner and our party was placed in a nice private room. The only thing I can complain about it the lack of ventilation. With a big party and hot food, the room got pretty toasty making it uncomfortable to sit there for a long time.
Amazing experience! From the food to the service! Highly recommended place to get some Italian food! Me and me family couldn’t be happier!
Amazing food. Pasta is homemade and perfectly el dente. Sat on back patio where service was a little slow but friendly. Will definitely recommend to friends and go back again.
The appetizers were great. The food, not so much. The Oven Baked Lasagna (meat - pork and beef) was way too much meat, not very tasty or flavorful, and not enough noodles for balance, it was like eating a meat lump with cheese. The tomato sauce was much too sweet, overpowering the entire meal. I was hoping for a really great Lasagna, and still hoping. However, the appetizers were phenomenal! The Bruschetta was to die for. Absolutely one of the best I ever had. The Charcuterie Plate was excellent.
The food was fantastic, the service was too notch and Mimmos helped me and my parents celebrate their 40th anniversary in a memorable way. Cannot wait to come back after my wedding day in oct!
We had a wonderful dinner on the back patio by the fireplace. It was quiet and secluded from street noise, beautiful evening with friends! The food was amazingly good and the price was very reasonable. The eggplant parm was delicious, baked instead of sautéed and a huge portion. The service was fantastic, warm, friendly and very helpful with suggestions. We would recommend to anyone in the area!
We had foreign exchange students and a friend from out of town. It was great!!
Food was excellent as well as the atmosphere and service. We went for dinner and sat on the patio in the back that included heaters. Plates were large and yummy. Highly recommended!
Mimo's has been a great place to have a nice lunch or dinner at. Ive been going there for many years, I miss the salad bar during lunch though. I really enjoy the lasagna, I used to get the steak sandwhich. The dining area is a bit stuffy. I don't really enjoy sitting in the middle of that area. I do like the outside seating.
Loved the lasagna paired with a Venetian red wine. We sat outside by the street which was bustling with Saturday night activity. Loved the vibes, service, and food. Can't wait to come back!
1) tried to change reservation from 4 people to 6 people and was told there was no room. On arrival and for the following two hours there were an abundance of tables available that could seat 6. 2) risotto was gummy and pasty--terrible. 3) slow service 4) chicken marsala was dry and tough. 4) ceasar salad was bland, no taste.
This place is apparently surviving on its past. I have no idea how this place received great reviews unless those reviews were written by people that think Olive Garden offers great Italian food.
And I rarely write negative reviews
Great service. Friendly staff! Hopefully we will be there!!
We were able to make a same-day reservation for our family of thirteen at Mimmo's on Open Table and had such a great experience. It's placed perfectly in Little Italy and was within walking distance from our hotel. We had a great server, an Italian woman, who recommended great food and was very attentive. The food was good and we had a great time.
we really enjoyed mimmo's. Was looking for some great marinara and was not disappointed
This restaurant is right in the heart of Little Italy in San Diego! They have 3 types of seating; street patio with fun people watching and heart of the action feel, inside- great dining ambiance, or intimate and quiet back patio. This is our family’s special occasion go to restaurant! Great food! Take a stroll after dinner through beautiful Little Italy!
My brother-in-law was visiting from Austin, TX. Originally he worked downtown near Little Italy and would have lunch at Mimmo's at least once a week. He was anxious to dine there again as he said there just is NO restaurant like Mimmo's in Austin. Agreed!
Food was served cold, shell fish was not fresh and ingredients were not high quality
Food, ambiance, service was impeccable. Highly recommend.
The food and service was fantastic!! I believe they made do with the space available but the outdoor seating was warm and in direct sun for many tables. The food - wow!!!! We arrived 10 mins prior to our reservation time. They brought us right in and took our order quickly. The wine selection was awesome as well. The eggplant parm was my favorite eggplant Parm yet!!
One of our favorite places to eat in San Diego. The food is always amazing, and the bread is amazing as well. 😊
Great food and great service. Every time we are in San Diego we come here for dinner!!!
Was there to celebrate my birthday and was very disappointed with our experience this time. The waitress did not attend to our table and when she did was not very friendly. It took 25 minutes to just get some bread and then 40 minutes by the time we saw the waitress to take our order. The food took forever to receive and when it did come to the table the food was not very hot and presentation was poor. Not sure what was going on and disappointed that my birthday experience turned out this way. The restaurant was moderately busy but not slammed.
Took 20 min to put in drink order but then it was ok after that
Food was delicious !!!! Waitress was so kind and helpful. Wonderful experience for our family.
LOVE this place. wish it was closer to my home, not 2 states away. it is now on my MUST do list the next time i am in town
Best Italian food in Little Italy. Very attentive friendly service. Very fair prices for excellent food quality great visual presentation and ample portion sizes. Sidewalk patio has great people watcbing.
this place is now my FAVORITE place to go to in San Diego.
i wish it was closer to my hometown, so i can go more often.
This is the 3rd time ive been to mimmos and im sad to say i was very disappointed. When we ordered our appetizers the pizza came out burnt and hard, which being in the industry i would of known not to send out. Afterwards our dinner showed up and we had to return our 1/2 our dinner b/c they were cold, other 2 plates were just warm. (like if the server forgot about them).. Overall I was upset with the service and what made it worse was i was bragging about how good this place was to our visitors from out of town. Possibly recommend to not go on weekends that might help..
We requested an outdoor table assuming the table would be outdoors at front of restaurant, however without knowing that they have an outdoor area in the back of the restaurant upstairs which had a nice ambiance and beautiful music playing in the background. Service was excellent, friendly and professional. Food was superb, everybody enjoyed their meal! The only thing that needs a little improvement is cleanliness of flatware, glasses and dishes. I would recommend this place to a friend most definitely!
