Miminashi Ratings and Reviews
We went fora weekday lunch. Only a few tables were taken. My friend’s sashimi order was served without the accompanying dip. The sashimi itself was delicious but at $14 very pricy for a very small plate. My ramen was good but nothing to return for. It had large slices of pork, shiitakes and lots of noodles. Her persimmon salad was quite delicious but, again, pricy. I don’t get the raves about this place.
We were very excited to go after seeing so many 5 Star reviews on Open Table.
It was disappointing. The service is very slow and not personable. High noise level. The food is overpriced and tasteless. The chicken hearts and the white chicken meat were completely blah. Portions were small, with the Short rib being $23 for 6 bites of fat and gristle and little meat. The Ramen noodles were not adequately cooked because the sauce was room temp (not boiling hot to cook the noodles). the reason for the 2nd star is that the waitress asked my wife for feedback and brought a new bowl of ramen.
Popped in on a random Tuesday and so happy we did! Started off rocky because of myself... I forgot to mention my fish allergy in my OT notes and most of what I had ordered had a fish stock or a fish product. However, our server (I believe her name was Heather) and Chef turned my experience around very quickly to a positive one. Heather was very apologetic, which was not her doing at all. She politely pointed out what items did not include fish and luckily there were a lot of things I was able to order! Chef even sent out a special item I would be able to enjoy. Everyone was so welcoming, I think our 9 month old fell in love with the host :) We left happy and full. The food and service was wonderful, we will definitely be back!
We tried the tasting menu. There were a couple of very nice courses. The sashimi was cut rather large, too large. The halibut was utterly tasteless. We were served a hamachi collar(?) there was little to no flesh to eat. If there was I couldn't find it digging around fins and bones with a chopstick and my fingers. HATED IT! The steak course was unremarkable with a layer of gristle that had to be cut from each (pre-sliced) piece and it, too was not very flavorful. The custard and ice cream were the standouts. I will tell everyone that asks not to get the tasting menu at $85. Not worth it at all.
Wonderful food, wild variety and tastes, amazing architectural design, calm, efficient staff on top of everything. We did the omakase 5 course and it seemed like 8 or 10 courses - food just kept coming. The food lived up to the reviews. The architecture equaled the food.
Miminashi 's is always a culinary paradise and our latest time there was no exception. The menu featured fresh local produce and fish and each dish was cooked to perfection. This trip we especially loved the butadon and everything that sous chef Joel prepared on their wood-fired grill. The grilled Japanese eggplant was delicious. But you have to save room for softserve ice cream in a waffle bowl - we had the buttered popcorn with whiskey butterscotch sauce. Words don't do it justice. We love, love Miminashi!
Very good food - but lunchtime server was very annoying with her snarky attitude. Coloured the whole experience in a negative way. Would choose another Napa restaurant next time - there are plenty of good ones without prickly servers.
We met pre- music performance which we stated right off. Service was very slow given our time of 1&1/2 hours. Finally served required us to eat quickly.
We were all put off by the paper napkins. Additionally the table was very sticky and the napkins became our table cloth- which would be a nice addition. Almost too casual and self serve (chopsticks and napkins in a can) for the price.
The salads and fried rice were quite good. The sashimi and skewers ok but not a good value. I would go elsewhere for these.
We had a great lunch on my husband's birthday. The food was very creative and the wait staff was very knowledgable about the why's and wherefore's of foods we were not familiar with. Luckily, we had saved some room so we had some "sweet cream" (read soft ice cream) after the main meal. OMG! It was great. A number of flavors of ice cream, toppings and sauces. It was spectacular. Highly recommend.
Delicious yakitori menu, chicken shoulder is a "must-try." Ramen was great, enough to share and the sake menu is set up for you to try a little bit of everything. Counter eating is set up for a casual feel, and the decor is beautiful. Dressed casual no problem.
From the moment we walked in until we left, the server did not make us feel welcomed and we regret wasting an evening in beautiful wine country with all its great restaurant choices going here. Food was decent, but she left such a bad taste in our mouths that we'll never go back or recommend this place to anyone.
Food and service were exceptional! The only problem was the noise level. Our waitress was somewhat soft spoken and she had to go to both sides of the table (there were 4 of us) to be heard. We went at 6:00, so I can only imagine once it gets later in the evening! Besides that, I would definitely recommend it.
I'm part Japanese and spent many years in Japan, so I'm used to paying pennies for this type of food. My friends, on the other hand, are not part Japanese and they thought everything was great and they didn't seem to mind the prices. So maybe it's just me. It's worth trying out, though, as there is nothing else like it in Napa.
For me, personally, the food was just "okay" and very pricey for what you get. For those kinds of prices, I think the food should be better than just "okay." So I can't really recommend it for every day dining -- okay for a special occasion. Thought the pork belly was under-done -- too chewy; should have been crispier. The shishito peppers were great and I really enjoyed the mushroom gyoza. Beer was the perfect temperature, as well.
The service is great, however, and they really space out the dishes so that you can enjoy each one hot. Great recommendation on sake by the sommelier!
We sat at the bar and had a lovely time with Joel-san the grill master. He really made the evening for us. Our server seemed to have too many tables to handle and was difficult to track down, which was a bit of a drag. The food was outstanding and the quality of the overall dining experience was definitely well worth the final cost. I'll be back. :)
Overall rating is tainted by service. Seated quickly, but then completely ignored until we started craning our necks (4 adults plus 18 month old). No explanation of menu which might have led us to try more items, especially something from the large list of grilled meats. Hostess eventually took our order.
Ramen was good, yakisoba was ok. Little gems salad was good. Nectar plum salad ok.
I love this place! Attention to detail in service, in the kitchen, on the beverage list, and to my table, giving the guest the best experience one could hope for! Please never stop what you are doing with this place! The flavors are genuine, honest and precise! Chef Curtis, Jessica & Jorge are the best!!! Thank you to the Miminashi team for making our 6th anniversary dinner a memmerable one!
