Mildred (Mimi) Bluestein Kosene. “Mimi Blue”. Born and raised in Indianapolis. Back when downtown was the only town. When people got dressed up for the theater and restaurant dining was a luxury.

Mimi Blue Meatballs is a tribute to our mother “Mimi Blue” Kosene. Mimi was a Lady, endowed with manners, taste, and an easy social grace. She loved good food whether dining out or cooking for a hard-working husband and three sons. Every home-cooked meal had to satisfy the whole family, as well as any friends who often stopped by. Cooking was the way she brought us together, kept us healthy, and showed us Love.

At Mimi Blue, we make the kind of food Mimi cooked for us at home, but we serve it in the type of comfortable urban setting that Mimi so much enjoyed. Like Mimi herself, our meatball dishes are classics. Each recipe is rooted in culinary tradition, but refined for the modern palette.

We were the only customers (2) for the first 15 minutes, our server brought our menus and returned in a couple of minutes to see if we were ready to order. We asked for another minute, then we watched as she filled a to to order (grub hub?). It took about 10 minutes for her to come back.

On the choose 4 I asked if we could.choose 3, she said yes. 4 were $12, I ordered 3 thinking it would be $9. I was charged per meatball, when I inquired she said that individually they're $3.25, but I was charged $3.50.

It was a strange luncheon

My second visit, and unfortunately I still wasn’t impressed. I had the chopped romaine salad which the waiter recommended, but it was tasted like it was poured out of the bag, including the shredded carrots. Chopped pecans were minimal and tasted on the edge of old.

I also had the turkey meatballs with spicy cilantro gravy. Truly nothing special about the meatballs - pretty bland stuff that was not overly tender. Liked the cilantro sauce though.

My husband had the standard spaghetti and meatballs for $18. Was decent, but no originality and definitely not worth the high price. The bright spot was the excellent service that we received.

We love the food but it was $100 for four of us without alcohol. Since everything is a la cart it gets really expensive.

This was my first time. I will certainly be back and cannot wait to bring my friends. The food was great. I had a reservation and was seated right away. The restaurant was full at 6:15 and there appeared to only be two servers on. The server let us know she would be right with us, but was explaining the menu to a couple other tables. The manager ended up greeting us with water, getting a drink order, and getting us the sauce plate. He ended up explaining the menu to us and entering our order, as well. The server checked on us once but the manager did all of the dropping of the check, clearing the table, finally picking up the check (after we called him over), and offered a friendly good-bye. I don't know if someone called out, or your servers typically have 7+ tables. The staff was working hard and never stopped moving, but I think you could have used at least one more server.

Again, I will certainly be back. The food was awesome.

Our daughter first brought us to the Carmel location and we loved it. Excellent food--many choices and the meatball salad I had was truly one of the best main course salads I've ever had. So what? We live in Chicago's gold coast and eat at many James Beard winners and the huge variety of ever-changing new places. Compared to those, this restaurant is one we'd put in the "everyday" food category. Instead of the marinara on the salad, I substitute the garlic cream. Outstanding!
We've been back whenever we're in town visiting and last week went with the grand daughters. Everyone was very happy with their choices, including the meatballs with a couple of the sauces they regularly enjoy and my husband loves everything from the meatballs and linguine, and the meatball salad as well when just the two of us went for lunch.
Service is exemplary, the conversation is audible (we hate noisy restaurants), and the food is a very good value. If you haven't been as yet, you must. It will be your favorite stand-by.

Mimi Blue has become a must stop when we travel to the area for swim meets. The food is fabulous (and thank goodness we saved room for desserts...or rather forced ourselves to fit dessert in). Everything is fantastic. The service has always been absolutely wonderful. I wish I could remember the name of our waitress on the evening of Saturday April 6th because she was so kind and took such great care of us. Our kids kept saying “mom and dad, give her a great tip, she is awesome.” We will be back at least once a year. Only wish it could be more.

We went on a whim and were very pleased with this restaurant. The vast types of meatballs and sauces were nearly overwhelming. It was a bit pricy by the time we each got an entree, drink, appetizer, and sides, but we had some sides left over to bring home. We had 2 servers who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We'll go back for sure.

We celebrated national meatball day aT your Carmel location. I made an opentable reservation for the bar. The table before us was lingering which is fine so we sat at the bar for drinks. The manager apologized twice for the delay seating us and offered an appetizer for the inconvenience. That was a class act gesture. The app was good and then our table was ready. The bartenders waited on our table and on us when we were at the bar. They were very attentive, personable and wanted you to have a nice time.

One main reason we went was to gluten free options for my daughter. She called and talked to someone earlier in the day who assured her there would be nothing crossover between her gluten free food and food with gluten. That was a good comfort level and the time he took to talk to he about it was going above and beyond.

On to the food. The classic meatballs were phenomenal. Great with marinara, garlic cream and especially the cilantro cream sauce. Excellent! My daughter liked the gluten free veggie balls with cilantro sauce. You should bottle and sell your cilantro sauce! Hubby had the meatballs on pasta and love it. The side were amazing. Who knew a Brussels sprout could taste that good. Those are Not your mamma’s Brussels sprouts that you need to hold your nose to eat. Buy and try them. No nose holding required. The dirty mashed potatoes were good and polenta was perfectly cooked. Hard to find polenta so it was great to find it and find it well done.

Beer and wine were both consumed with wreckless abandon. The beer pours were good and the prosseco Cassie and I had was just right. With dinner we had a bottle of Primativo. If you’ve considered it, just it do it! It was smooth right out of the bottle.

The ambiance is great. The seating and decor look nice and upscale. The staff and manager were tremendous, the scene was vibrant. We will definitely return. Soon I hope, Thanks for a wonderful evening!

We were having celebration for my father in laws 80th birthday. We had family in from Texas and Ohio. Everyone raved on how everything was. It was a wonderful evening.

We were asked to dine with a candidate who was being interviewed at our congregation for a very important position. She and her husband are from St Lois and she is a vegetarian. This was the perfect place to give her lots of options and show them a local restaurant for a reasonable price. They both loved it!

I would recommend, but you'd have to like meatballs. The marinara sauce was excellent as was the garlic cream.
I felt very crowded as tables were close to each other. Would try again but would not sit in table for as they are quite small. Not enough for all the food we ordered.

Our server Stephanie was great. She explained everything since none of us had been there before. We had friends in from Chicago, and they loved it too. We all would definitely go back! I didn't think I liked brussel sprouts until I tried these!

Valentine’s Day dinner with my wife. We have been here many times and always love the food. Mimi Blue was the first restaurant we ate at when we first came to Carmel before we got married so it has a very special place in our hearts.

Our server did a great job considering all the people she had to serve. We felt like they were a little unprepared for the night as the food took significantly longer than usual. Regardless, it was still a perfect night.

This was our first time there. The service was very good. Our waitress was excellent and very friendly. She gave several suggestions on the menu. The food was really delicious and great size.

We went to Mimi Blue for their Devour Indy menu, which was a dinner for two that included four meatballs each, one side to share, and two banana mousse.

They seemed short staffed when we were there, with only two servers, a bartender, and a manager (I think?) running the entire front of the restaurant. All four of those people were rushing around helping each other and hustling the whole time we were there, but none of them seemed harried or stressed. Even though we had to wait a little longer than usual to be seated, to get our drink order taken, etc., we didn't mind at all because it was clear they were busy, and the service was still really good.

It goes without saying that you probably want to be a meatball fan if you're going to eat at Mimi Blue, but I'll say it. My husband and I always love going here and mixing and matching different meatballs and sauces. I prefer the classic meatballs, but he likes to try different kinds, and all are good. I think I've had all of their sauces at this point, and they're all good. If you're not an adventurous eater, you really can't go wrong with the marinara.

There are a lot of sides to put under or on the side of your meatballs. This time we split the mac and queso. Delicious. Hot, melty, and definitely enough to share.

The banana mousse is a dessert that is always available on the menu, but we had never tried it until this visit. It's basically a banana pudding with vanilla wafers crumbled in it and some whipped cream. It's REALLY flavorful and delicious. One probably would have been enough to share. The color was a little off-putting...it looked exactly like dijon mustard. But the taste made up for the weird color that I'm sure was the result of the tasty ingredients.

We would--and will--eat here again.

This was my first visit. Tried the classic meatball with creamy garlic sauce and the beef with marinara. Both ere yummy. Bressell sprouts were delicious and shared by three of us. Can’t wait to go back.

Great food different options from the normal burgers and fries. The sauces are unique as well as the meatballs. Salads are great. Good for small groups, dates, or Sunday Brunch.
