Excellent fish and steak and good shrimp and grits. The fried chicken itself was good, but it was totally soaked by the cole slaw juice. My party was initially seated in the lobby where there was a lit of traffic and a very bass-y speaker, but we asked to change tables and we’re generously accommodated. Our drinks kept running out. The bourbon pecan pie was delicious.
Milton's menu may be short, but all of the offerings look very tasty. It was difficult for us to decide what to order. I had the shrimp and grits -- fixed differently from any other that I've had -- and they were really great! My wife had the trout - it was cooked perfectly, and tasty. We'll be back!
Slow getting some food items.
One item ordered (salad) was never delivered and requested that it be removes from bill.
First time guest. Food fabulous. Service poor. A staffing issue for the day occurred so others covered but the service was server dependent- and my server was suboptimal- slow on drinks including water- no coffee refill, no positive energy.
Ate dinner their fish was suppose to be red snapper didn’t have it so they said they had flounder but was not it was. Lettuce was terrible not chilled and in pieces not a wedge. Brunch next day terrible spent $400. On a 40.00 dollar meals
Love this cute place and the food is delicious. Enjoyed something new this time —Green garlic chowder. Others at my table really liked the trout and duck. Cauliflower fritters and chocolate tort were a big hit too. As with most places right now and Covid—staffing is difficult. Our waitress worked hard to run around to cover all her tables and was nice but you could see she was spread thin/harried and we were rushed. Too bad places have to close at 9 pm on a Friday but that is the current state of affairs most everywhere I guess.
As an aside, this is inside an historic hotel that is also a nice place to stay, with a great location near the tiny downtown. The restaurant and hotel lobby have lovely outdoor seating as well as attractive indoor dining and sitting rooms. The GM Curt is very friendly and you can see the pride he takes in his work.
The shrimp and grits was...for me...a near-religious experience. The hanger steak was tasty and plentiful, but pretty much as expected. The service was slow, but as with many establishments, the result of difficult staffing issues, not the lack of intent.
Pickled shrimp were amazing. We also got the deviled eggs - which are some of the best I have ever had. I definitely recommend the Hanger Steak. It was cooked perfectly and the added sides were very complimentary. We sat on the side patio, and it was nice, shaded, and quiet. Definitely will go back again.
Beautiful hotel restaurant. In and out very quickly. Food & service was amazing. Prices in line with other restaurants. Only complaint would be a limited menu, but we understand why a restaurant would do this (especially a smaller scale one.) The food we did get was very good. Trout tasted great. Shrimp & Grits were good, well portioned & a good Cajun kick. The bourbon Arnold Palmer was spot on. Would visit again. We didn’t have time left to visit the downtown area, but it is just outside of downtown, walkable if you want to visit that before or after, two thumbs up.
This was our 5th time eating at Milton’s and they never disappoint! From the friendly wait staff to the cleanliness of the hotel and restaurant. The food is amazing and the local artwork they have hanging on the walls is beautiful.
On vacation in NC and was blown away by the menu. We had the veal and red snapper dishes. Everything, from salads to dessert, was fantastic. Great flavors, perfectly prepared, and on the mark. We would highly recommend eating at this great establishment.
Milton's apparently has a new chef, and we think he is great. The food we had for supper was wonderful. The original great menu has been tweaked, and made even better. For example, the shrimp and grits dish is even better than before. My guests loved their dishes and the service was exceptional.
This was our first time at Milton’s and we were pleasantly surprised by how amazing our experience was! The hotel itself was gorgeous and beautifully restored. When you walked in the front door, there was a gorgeous bar and outdoor dining area (it was raining so we had to sit inside). The employees were really wonderful and welcomed us and we sat in the beautiful, moody dining room. We first ordered cocktails which were great. Then, we order apps (pimento cheese and cauliflower fritters). We also had yummy little cornbread muffins that had jalapeño honey and homemade butter with them. They were all some of the best we’ve ever had! Then we ordered wedge salads which were absolutely delicious. I wanted more when I was done! Then we ordered the red snapper which was fresh and yummy. We didn’t love the sauce that was with it but the fish itself was awesome. We had a glass of a really nice Cabernet and sat and chatted with our server and a couple of the employees. It was overall one of the nicest evenings we’ve had in a long time. We will be back on a nice evening to walk around black mountain and eat outside at Milton’s. It’s added to our list as one of our favorite places in western NC.
Everything was just perfect! We had a reservation but arrived a few minutes early. We were seated within a few minutes in the lovely outdoor area. The waitress Jennifer was very knowledgeable of the evening menu and was very attentive. The food was delicious. We will definitely return.
Another delicious Burger Night with friends sitting outside.
Consistently best food in Black Mountain. Trout, Duck and garlic chowdah were outstanding.
The service here was wonderful.
There is a felling of truly being taken care of.
The food was so delicious and well prepared with an artistic presentation.
Our only complaint which is very tiny is that the bread pudding should have been served warm. And it did get just a little noisy. ….. simply because people were enjoying themselves!!
We had a delicious dinner at Miltons. We started at the bar inside with 2 delicious cocktails and a great bartender with lots of personality! We then we’re seated on the patio which was lovely. Our dinner tasted fresh and yummy! Our server was friendly and efficient. Had a great time!
La nourriture était délicieuse . Le service exceptionnel. Une très agréable soirée.
Excellent service and food! Prepared food with care for a food sensitivity.
Outstanding Sunday Brunch. Best meal during our vacation to Asheville.
Based on other reviews we were really looking forward to our dinner here unfortunately it was a disappointment. We totally understand the staffing challenges so had no issue with the slow service. Our waitress was relatively new yet very attentive and sweet.
It started going downhill with drink orders. He ordered a kölsch draft beer and when he drank it he told the waitress it tasted like a wheat beer would she check. She came back and told us repeatedly it was the kölsch. Finally someone in the bar said they changed the tap and it was a wheat beer. She apologized as she didn’t know.
I requested the vintage year for two different Napa Cabs, note they were $89 and $100 a bottle. I was told 2017 and 2019 for the vintages so I requested the 2017 and for the wine to be decanted. Waitress searched for decanter then said they didn’t have one so brought a water bottle. She decanted the wine away from the table so she did not show me the wine or confirm it was ok before opening it. Turns out it was a 2018, it was warm and now decanted in a water bottle. Hmmmm. The GM came to our table and explained he’s been there 4 days and they have problems with wine storage and no decanters yet did not offer any compensation on the wine or to replace the bottle.
Wedge salad was very good, the bacon perfectly cooked. Enjoyed the cornbread and butter, note the jelly is jalapeño which is very hot so would have appreciated that being shared before we tried it. It looked like a honey jam spread. Dinner was ok we both ordered the hanger steak medium and both came out totally rare so we sent them back. The food was nothing special.
$240 later we would not go back when there are so many other wonderful places to eat in the area.
Great food with a great staff. Lots of GF choices. Will definitely be back!!
Steak was great. Shrimp and grits too. We will be back.
After a month away we invited our neighbors to join us for Burger Night. Overall, another very good meal. Service was a little less than what we had received in the past. I am sure the wait staff just had an off night. We will be back as Milton's is still our Go To restaurant in Black Mountain.
We sat outside so the noise wasn't bad. Just walking through the dining hall I could tell it would be rather loud for us.
This aside it was a perfect brunch which we enjoyed immensely.
Seasonal menu had an option for all types of diners! Excellent variety in tastes from drink menu to entrees. And the variety of seating allows for a different setting for your dining adventures...really enjoyed the patio on a pleasant evening. Wait staff was highly attentive!
We enjoyed our meal immensely. We all ordered the snapper and it was delicious - loved the fennel slaw. Our server Summer was adorable and made us laugh frequently. It’s always a pleasure to dine when you enjoy the waitress. We will return.
Amazing! Has a great waitress and was a wonderful place to celebrate or anniversary.
We visit Black Mountain at least once a year. Every time we have dinner at the Milton! The food is delicious and the service friendly.
I must say this time the service was outstanding! Our server, Summer, was not only friendly, she also was very attentive and made sure we always had everything we needed, without being overbearing. We were very impressed by her professionalism!
Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, excellent food and drink options! A favorite of ours in Black Mountain/Asheville
Great ambiance, service and especially the food!
Pimento cheese is off the charts great.
Eggs Benedict couldn’t have been more awesome (maybe offer the pork belly instead of the Canadian bacon)
Grits were great.
The Bloody Mary was fantastic too.
Cornbread muffins and jalapeño jam…what can I say!
We’ll be back for sure!
The food was delicious, the hotel is adorable snd our waiter Hunter was amazing!
We greatly enjoyed our dinner at Milton's Black Mountain, with the exception that the bartender did not know how to make a Watermelon Mojito. After we asked the waitress, to bring her out she still thought she knew what she was doing (and had a poor attitude).
We will certainly go back, and recommend Milton's
Great choices in drinks & food. The bar is always delightful. I had red snapper, friends had shrimp & grits, trout. All were satisfied. I gave service a high mark because I know you're a little short handed post-COVID. It will all be better when you are fully staffed.
The only thing I'd ask to be different is mosquito control on the back patio. Dining out there was perfect, but the mosquitos were noticeable and plentiful.
We'll be back, for sure.
Food was average. Prices were somewhat high for the quality and amount of food. Bread plates, but no bread(!) Flavors on entrees didn’t go together
Beat place in Black Mountain for brunch!
Great location for Sunday brunch, especially if you're staying on premises, as we were. Husband loved the eggs Benedict, while I had the Brioche French toast with applewood-cured bacon. Delisious, and the service was great!
Great place to eat. Good food, wine and drinks. Definitely will return.
Outstanding food! Husband had the hangar steak and cleaned his plate. I had the trout and it was delicious. The cornbread with honey butter was a delicious starter. We skipped dessert but had the boozy coffee (since we were staying on premises), and it was great, as was the conversation on the back patio after dinner.
