Millie's Ratings and Reviews
We have always loved Millie's but had not been in a while. Went with a large group recently. Took over 30 minutes to get our first drink and over two hours to get our food. Food was not what it used to be, unfortunately. Not sure if this was because they seemed understaffed or overly busy, but we will probably think twice before we go back. There are just too many other options in Richmond these days, where the food and service are better.
We had an outstanding meal--duck, tile fish and sautéed scallops. Service was, as always, prompt, friendly and professional. Millies remains our favorite restaurant in Richmond, and its amazing that the quality has not declined in the many years we have been eating there.
Came for Richmond Restaurant Week. Came in a little early with reservations, was seated immediately. Ended up doing a few courses as well as an app for the table. All the food was great and the dishes were very balanced. Our server was very informative and gave us additional info on any questions we had!
Definitely exceeded my expectations!
We had a great dinner at Millie’s. I had the signature Thai Spicy Shrimp and it was delicious. My husband had the price fixed meal and it was super. The portions were a perfect size for three courses. Our friends had the hanger steak and the fish special and they both stated their meals were delicious.
I was most disappointed for my birthday dinner. Tim was the waiter & he was quite abrupt to the point of rude. My appetizer clearly had a worm of some sort moving on top of it which I declined to consume & sent it back. I was meeting with dear friends as my husband was unable to join us. I felt totally not special & I specifically chose this for my special occasion. While only visiting once for brunch, which we thoroughly enjoyed, I will never return for dinner.
This restaurants has maintained its excellent, and well deserved, reputation for a long time. So this was not my first visit. Non of the previous ones was a despointment. This one was even better than the other ones. The food is more interesting, selection more unusual and taste is a good as ever. The service was excellent and the rest is obviously much less important. The noise level allows to talk and not shout so it is a great advantage.
I am convinced that they would meet any bodies expection for good food
Food and service was fantastic! We ate outside at our request and unfortunately flies were terrible. And, there was no fan to deter them. Prices were a little high but would definitely return for a special occasion. Would also recommend Millie's to other people. They and the food were super!
We so enjoyed our dinner at Millie’s ! Our server was smart, friendly, and helpful. He obviously cared that we were happy customers. He was proud of their food, and rightly so, as it was delicious. We had the cauliflower soup, duck breast and a perfectly prepared Caesar salad. Can’t wait to go back!
One can count on having an excellent meal at Millie's. My grouper was cooked to perfection and served with delicious potatoes and green beans. Simple, yet delicious, and at a reasonable cost. My only complaint is that the music is quite loud and it can be a challenge to converse with one's dining companions at times.
We had dinner here. The first course of mussels was very good. However after that introduction things fell off. It was very dark and impossible to see the food on the plate. We had to just stab at the food and guess what we would get on our fork. Although the duck was perfectly cooked the sides on the plate were slim and burnt. The fish also was difficult to navigate because of the bones and the darkness. The sides on the fish plate were also slim and overcooked.
The cooks on the open grill and broiler were burning off pans while we and other diners were having desert so the entire room was smokey. Overall for the price of the food we would not recommend it.
Another great meal at this Dichmond staple. Though better known for brunch, it's dinner menu is always interesting with something to please everyone.
This time the mussels were amazing, and the lamb chops were perfect. The dessert was a pineapple galette that was a little bit dry and could have done with either ice cream or a creme Anglais accompaniment.
We had faultless service from our waitress who was well informed and prompt, and when I gave my feedback on the galette, she informed the chef and it was removed from the bill.
There is always something at Millie's that you have never had before or in a combo you have never had before. I brought a Belgian gourmand to Millie's and he said the steak was the best he had ever had in the USA and he has travelled a lot in the US. Sunday brunch is always great even if you have to stand in line: then you can watch the chefs preparing all the different dishes as you larrup into a bloody Mary. The waitresses are all very charming too.
I had a lovely lunch there with friends and family, on a weekday and very spur of the moment. We worried that we wouldn't get a table, since they don't take reservations for lunch, but we got a cozy boot near the window very soon after arrival for the four of us. I had the Cajun Mess, a grits dish with andouille sausage, crawfish and plenty of spice that was really good. Friends ordered a range of egg dishes and sandwiches, and everyone was very happy with their meal! Our waiter was a delightful, theatrical woman, and she made sure our every need was addressed while we were there. Will look forward to my next visit!
Had been suggested by a friend who loved it. Upon arrival, was told a/c wasn't working on a 100 degree day. Wish my party had chosen to leave. However, they were so excited to visit again, I stayed with them. Menu was not to my liking at all. Even if the a/c had been working I would have been disappointed. No chicken dishes, no pasta, nothing light. Very heavy fare. Won't return but because of menu not because of heat.
We went there for my daughter's graduation dinner. Waiter was good, we've had him before but he was reluctant to ask the chef to spice up a dish that my husband was asking about ( he wanted to make sure it packed some spice and heat); instead, he told us it was a popular dish, people liked it as is. My husband ordered the dish and found it to be rather bland, waiter did ask how he like the spice and heat level but made to offer to have it fixed to way my husband wanted it. I would say, in all honesty, only two out of six people enjoyed their food; the others only thought it was alright for the price. Overall, it was only an acceptable yet pricey dinner that left most of us feeling slightly disappointed. Millie's is not as good as it once was.
We've been Millie's fans, albeit only occasionally for close to 20 years (however we do live 90 miles away and seldom travel to Richmond, but when we do . . .). Yesterday was the first time my wife had been there together in at least 10 years (although I was there for lunch with colleagues ~6-8 mos ago and it was awesome then, too).
My wife ordered the chipotle chicken soup(although stew would be what I'd have called it) and the spicy Thai shrimp. The soup/stew was delicious and the shrimp was excellent (and indeed spicy, which not all dishes billed as such in other establishments always are). I went with the prix fixe tasting menu and chose the charcuterie (duck prosciutto, pork patè, and blackened Brie, all of which were very nice), the steak (ordered rare and served the same, thank you kindly), and the honey ginger Crème brûlée (good, but not great due to inconsistent temperature). My wife, despite claiming to be full, ordered the chocolate cake and was greeted by a HUGE slice of same. CC isn't really my thing, so my judgement should be take with a grain of salt, but I thought it was good, not great. My wife concurs: good, but not great.
The service was excellent: attentive, but not intrusive. We were seated promptly. Timing was spot-on, with no awkward stretches between courses.
All of which explains why Millie's has remained on our favorites list for so long.
The Chicken Sinigang was a very small chicken leg quarter that was exceedingly overpriced for what was put on the plate. The Pork Adobo was about 3oz of meat and so salty that the sauce was virtually inedible. I don't have a huge appetite but the folks in my party and I walked away from dinner still hungry.
We had the 3 course prix fixe meal and thought it was perfectly sized. Dessert was underwhelming, but other two courses were excellent. Good ingredients, creative, excellently executed. Noise made it a little difficult to hear our waiter, but he was very helpful and quick, even though busy.
We came here during Richmond Restaurant Week. Our waiter was helpful and suggested the best wine pairing to go with our food choices - he did an excellent job. We truly enjoyed our meal. Sadly, when we came back a month or so later; our experience was not so good. Torn on whether or not we will return to this establishment.
