Mille Fleurs Ratings and Reviews
Have heard about Mille Fleurs for years but it's off the beaten path and out of mind until I saw it on the Restaurant Week list. My friend and I went for lunch and the experience was lovely. It is everything that is expected with a great reputation--over-the-top service, great food and lovely surroundings. The surprises were that the lunch offering described as $20 for Restaurant Week on Open Table and the SDRW site, turned out to be a $28 offering of three courses--a soup or salad, an entree (3 choices), and one delicious dessert. There was no $20 menu so I'm not clear why it's wrongly advertised on two sites. The other surprise was that none of the 3 preferred entrees were French--chicken schnitzel (German) cioppino and ravioli . The 18% gratuity was added automatically (not sure why) but was appropriate for the considerate personnel. With a 4% surcharge and normal tax this was a $70 lunch for two. I guess there is a reason it's in Rancho Santa Fe.
My primary criticism is that it was hard to access for my disabled wife. They did allow us to exit out the side door closer to our car. The service was slow (we were told that they hoped we weren't in a hurry but could really enjoy the meal, as if enjoyment and staff being attentive were mutually exclusive) but enthusiastic and unusually knowledgable. The room(s) is lovely, old fashioned and comforting. The food was quite good across the board, if just short of marvelous. We would come back in a snap, and will make a point of returning when we get back to the area.
