About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
Set at the end of a tranquil tidal creek on the Salcombe estuary, the Millbrook Inn is a hidden haven for those who enjoy good food, great wine and a pint of local ale.

The Millbrook Inn has a long-standing reputation as one of Devon's best gastro pubs. We take great care to source the finest local ingredients from land and sea, including from our own farm, and we prepare them simply and with love.

Our home - the idyllic village of South Pool – is easy to reach from Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Totnes. When the tide is right, it’s only a short boat trip from Salcombe.

Whether by our homely fire or our babbling brook, we look forward to welcoming you to the Millbrook Inn very soon.

Overall - The steak was disappointing and not good value for money. The pub is lovely and has a good atmosphere. The servers are well intentioned, though lack knowledge of their products. We were very much looking forward to trying the beef. We had the ribeye on the bone to share. It was over cooked and the fat was not well rendered making parts of the cut tough or chewy (we ended up giving these bits to our dog). The flavour was good but we’ve had better at a better price. Rather disappointing given this is the signature menu item. On their website it states the steaks come with greens and potatoes, however when we ordered our server said no sides were included so we ordered chips and greens. When our food arrived it came with an additional bowl of potatoes which we pointed out we didn’t order. However, we were still charged for the other sides (£12) which from the online menu it appears we should not have been. We ordered two 175ml glasses of wine. When we checked the bill we’d been charged for 250ml, a size which didn’t even appear on the wine list we were given. When pointed out this was then taken off our bill. Too many unenforced errors to make this a recommendation or to prompt a return visit.

Very enjoyable sunday roast , both had the Beef - Shorthorn ? We were planning to catch the ferry over but tides were wrong so drove. We were seated on the first floor , interesting beamed room with loads of character. Very frendly staff . Only slight downside was loud lady who sat next to us half way through the meal and was a right old moaner! We will be back for an evening meal.

Absolutely great experience - roast dinner was excellent, very nice wine, followed by live music in the courtyard. The ambience, cleanliness, nice toilets, and very friendly staff make it a venue to return to. It is the service that warrants mentioning too - as we had eaten in the restaurant the waitresses continued to bring us table service drinks when we moved to the courtyard to watch the music, a huge bonus as the bar was extremely busy and queues were long. Despite long queues, the atmosphere remained really upbeat and worth it. We had the most enjoyable afternoon and I highly recommend a visit to this pub - you will not be disappointed.

Arrived early for Sunday Lunch to enjoy pre lunch drinks outside. Set lunch was very nice. During our meal an event commenced and the pub got very busy with drinkers. We felt neglected and service was non existent. We will avoid clashing with their events in future.

A real gem, small intimate and full of character. A good range of local ale, lager and cider, well looked after. Friendly god humoured staff who despite being busy took the time to chat with their customers. The menu changes daily and although small focuses on great quality local produce, everything was delicious and very filling accompanied by a good choice of wine. Well recommend

Originally put upstairs to dine with barking dogs and children running around . Asked to be moved back downstairs, we were found a table by an open door with a cold wind blowing in . We had to go to the car to get sweaters . Our wine arrived after we had finished our starter . Our main meal was cold in five minutes due to the draft . We had to listen to staff swearing and shouting at each other over a bell being rung . I could go on . I have been coming here for over twenty years , not anymore . Very disappointed.
