Mill Valley Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Mediocre food. A "side salad" I was charged for was no more than some lettuce leaves, some slimy, sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Salmon burger was actually tough (!), the bun tasted store bought. Nothing special or tasty in any way.
My low grade to the question of whether I would recommend Mill Valley Kitchen to friends is based upon my knowing that friends of mine prefer to dine at less "energetic" restaurants. The seating arrangements are very close together when there are no booths available - and the overall noise level makes it difficult to engage in quiet conversations. If diners enjoy this type of energetic ambiance, then the food and hospitality of the servers would make dining there worthwhile.
This place does such a great job. Really tasty feel-good food in a pleasant atmosphere. Excellent kale ceasar, sesame carrots, duck breast and short ribs with exceptional cheddar grits. I forget about this place because its tucked out of the way in an apartment building but it's worth seeking out.
A last minute decision to dine out posed no problem booking on a Sunday night as there were few patrons. This was probably due to a forecast snowstorm and/or a Minnesota Vikings playoff game keeping most people at home or in sports bars. The cucumber salad was crisp and tangy, the Pho noodle soup piping hot, and the generous serving of the Grain Bowl well seasoned and dressed with small Brussel sprouts and other interesting tidbits. Dessert was a very nice apple crisp. We thought the price of wine by-the-glass was a bit steep as was the extra charge for "protein" (chicken) in the Pho soup but this restaurant is a gem and will please discerning diners.
Very pleasant ambience, more ambitious food presentation than the usual suburban place. Noise level: medium to medium-high, depending on how full it is; at half full it's fine. Plates are not huge--no worry about overeating--but everything on them is very good. Prices are in line with other restaurants of this type, but you are buying quality rather than quantity.
We wish there were more than one vegetarian main course option.
I have eaten at Mill Valley Kitchen twice for birthday celebrations. We were offered a free dessert on both occasions and it was served with a burning candle. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and was accommodating of food allergies offering suggestions for modifying a menu item. The service was fast. The sea bass and the chiopino were great at dinner and the happy hour afforded a chance to enjoy premium wine at reasonable prices. The lunch we enjoyed was very tasty. I used valet parking, a good option in cold weather. It’s a great restaurant.
