One of our favorite places but sad to say the new menu leaves quite a bit to be desired.
Great food and service. It was noisy and difficult for conversation. That’s my main issue.
We have previously been hesitant to dine at Mikette’s because we were waited on by the same, pretty rude, server multiple times. This time we were lucky. We had the most wonderful server, who made sure we were well taken care of. He even came after us out to the parking lot with a pair of readers he thought to be ours, which they weren’t! How thoughtful and sweet!
100% thumbs up for Mikette this time:-)
How do you change from a French Bistro to “Mediterranean Flare”. A terrible idea. The whole experience has changed and not the reason we fell in love with the restaurant. No oysters? No Kale Caesar? I hated Kale until I had that salad and still dream of that salad. Very disappointing. Wish you well but we won’t be back.
We decided to meet some friends in Ann Arbor for dinner at this restaurant. I was pleased to find how easy the restaurant was to get to and it had free parking.
The inside of the restaurant was very nice. I liked how there was even artwork on the ceilings. The wait staff was very pleasant as well.
I was kind of disappointed as being a vegetarian, although they were vegetarian options, much of the vegetarian food is fried in the same fryer as the shrimp and other meats. I think it is important for a restaurant that has vegetarian options to realize that people do not always eat fish, or may have a fish allergy. This limited options. I was also kind of shocked that for a Friday night, which typically is a busy night for people to go out for dinner they ran out of the one vegetarian skewer, the mushroom and onion kebab. This meant, that my main meal would be a salad.
We ordered three different spreads with bread, the cheese fondue salad and apricot gelato.
The cheese fondue was amazing! Definitely worth to have.
I was underwhelmed by the spreads, although the pepper spread was very good. The bread is grilled nicely and delicious. The beet spread with feta cheese lacked flavour to my liking. I also found the white bean hummus wasn't as garlicky as I would like it. The apricot gelato was very underwhelming as it did not have a robust flavour that you'd expect with gelatos. I would say it was more like an ice cream.
The flavours of all the food are mediocre at best and not as flavourful as full as I would expect Mediterranean food to be. Also, some of the appetizers were definitely oversalted.
The drinks are good, not overly overpriced.
Worth to try but I don't think we'd be back.
All the food from the new menu (Mediterranean) was awesome, except the lamb kebab was overcooked/dry. I went with a group of 6, and we all loved the food and atmosphere.
The menus has changed. This restaurant was a French bistro with an interestingFrench oriented menu. Now it has a decididley Middle-Eastern menu. I, personally, and my wife, have little to no interest in Middle-Eastern food. And a big change for me: no more oysters. I doubt we will frequent Mikett as often as we did before this change.
Sad decline in menu. What happened to salad with lardons? To the seafood cocktail tray? To the scallop ceviche? The chocolate mousse wasn’t richly, deeply chocolatey. Menu is much more pedestrian than at first. Very good onion soup! But for a quite pricey restauranrt, you seem to have shed dishes that made it a festive destination. It is still expensive but you are serving lentils instead of ceviche. I do like the fried chicken. Why only on Sunday?
We've eaten here a few times before. It's a little pricey for our middle-class income, but the food is consistently outstanding and the entree portions are satisfying. They frequently change the menu, so there's no guarantee that they're going to have "that thing you loved" last time you were there. But I haven't yet found a menu item that wasn't fantastic. Even something as simple as a green salad. You'd think "Okay, it's a standard green salad. No great shakes." And you'd be wrong. The ingredients are always fresh, the particular vegetables they use combine well, and the dressing just makes the whole thing an experience for the palette.
Slight markdown for how expensive everything is (and of course, it's a la carte, so you're paying separately for everything you consume) AND it's usually kind of loud. We're not talking Buffalo Wild Wings loud, but loud enough that ambient noise is always present and can drown out the person across the table from you that you WANT to hear. But it's still well worth it. We'll be going again.
A great place for a date night or group outing. The new menu is excellent and the service is always great. If you make it to dessert, go for the chocolate mousse!
Mikette just changed its menu to be more mediteranean and I think it does very well. The idea of people can order different types of kabobs to share is awesome. We had salmon, duck and pork tenderloin kabobs and each of them has a different sauce that works well with the meat. The side of couscous is also yummy. We had a great time.
While we enjoyed great service by our server, the host initially was brusque in placing us at our reserved table for 4 in the middle of a racket, then after prodding, offered a quieter spot on the cool outside area, which we declined in favor of the original spot. The food was OK. Tzatziki was the best of the appetizers (also tried beets, and white bean hummus). Shishito peppers were improved by our dining companion sprinkling a big of salt. Bravas were limp and unappetizing. Cauliflower were too sweet. Salmon kabob was appreciated. My onion/mushroom was not pleasant. The Moroccan eggplant was better, but heavily breaded. I was expecting more heart in Mediterranean fare. Dessert of 1 scoop of gelato was actually 2 scoops (supersize me, USA). Practically $200 for the meal -- a bit extravagant for what we got, including a gin / juice, 2 ginger beers, and a mocktail. Best for flavoring up the dishes. Would love to have a quieter space (just add tapestries or fabric on the ceiling). Buena suete!
Way to loud in the main dining room!! I will try again to see if the patio or other room are less noisy . Deserts are so so .
The apps and main courses are very tasty.
portion size was on the smaller side but flavors were excellent. Loved the sangria!
The food was amazing. The waiter was a little slow, but that is not a big deal. He was more than helpful and amicable. Thank you for accommodating our celebration! The food is said to be french and expected french food, but it was more like Spanish tapas mixed with some middle eastern foods.
New menu is great, value has gone down as prices went up!
Buffalo Cauliflower was different and tasty; Chicken Main was also tasty. Good service and a nice atmosphere.
We have enjoyed coming to this restaurant in the past. This latest visit was a bit disappointing. One of the dinners, the flank steak, was way underdone. This was very odd as that dinner came much later than all the other dinners. The person who received it does not like to send things back so he left most of it. The manager took it off the bill without being asked - which was very nice of him. The other thing that I was not happy about (being the host of this event) was the changes to the menu. I always thought of this as mostly a French restaurant. That seems to be changing as they have added a lot of more Mediterranean dishes - like a whole list of Kebabs. They removed my favorite - the French dip. If they get rid of the Beef Bourguignon my wife will not want to come back!
Very rude server. Food is no longer French but Mediterranean like so many restaurants in Ann Arbor. Disappointing.
Mikette has become one of our favorite destinations. Great food and service with fair prices. The french onion soup is outstanding.
Like the restaurant, but would love some healthy options. Also, a stronger Cosmo would be nice, considering the price.
Insanely good food. Not overpriced either. Had a great Valentines Day dinner here and my wife and I absolutely loved it. We’ll be back.
We loved our first time at Mikette. We went for Valentine’s Day . My husband had the steak frites and I had the big green salad. The salad was more exciting than it sounds...it had lettuces, string beans, avocado, grapes and a few others but the items made an unexpectedly delicious and hearty combination. We both had the bourbon smash to drink - delicious. And the creme brûlée for dessert was one of the best I’ve had. The space is adorable. Our server was excellent - helpful and attentive but not overbearing. A bit loud but that’s fine. Will definitely return.
Great place. I don’t like the new seating arrangement - the high tops by the bar were much more elegant!!!
Excellent food and waitstaff. I liked the smaller feel of room and it was relatively quiet for the size. It is a bit hard to determine how much to order. We were told that that portions were progressively larger as you moved down the menu. That is generally true but there was quite a disparity between portions across categories.
We had an absolutely delicious and very relaxing meal! Everything from the cocktails to the cappuccinos was perfectly prepared and seasoned, and our server and the other staff were friendly and helpful. One of the best meals we’ve had in ages. We’ll definitely be back!
The food and service were excellent. The changes to the inside structure seem to have made it less noisy which was a problem in the past.
Lovely bistro-like setting. Fun unique cocktails. Inventive menu.
Love the atmosphere and the friendly, competent and relaxed service. Getting the meals out was fairly slow this visit. The modest size breakfast and lunch menus offer nice variety and presentation.
I’m always delighted with the ambiance and drinks with Mikette’s. This time I tried them for lunch with my cousin. She really enjoyed her food, and my side salad was delicious but go back to the drawing board for your selection of the hamburger you serve. There are so many good grass-fed or Kobe burgers that are of higher quality. I’ll be back !!! JTRC
Hadn’t visited Restaurant since shortly after it opened. We were very pleased with everything about our experience. The food was great and our server was excellent.
Ordered from restaurant week menu; french onion fondue-very good. moroccan meatballs-very good. chicken dish-very good and plentiful. steak bistro- too much balsamic vinegar, very small portion, no sides.
Value-not so much.
Have been before and food very good, noisy.
Not on my "got to go back" list.
Worth the visit. We went for restaurant week. The food was delicious.
We enjoyed our Restaurant week dinner very much. Nice to try things we have not had before. Liked the openness with the wall removed. I would prefer tablecloths as it would help with the noise and bistro feeling. Also for a French restaurant it was curious that no baguette or bread of any kind was presented. Will be back for happy hour as that seems to be a great deal. Thanks
Dinner was fine, all the food is prepared with high quality ingredients. My only complaint is the portion size, it seems not to be in line with the dish cost. Other than that, great food.
An average experience. Food was ok but the service wasn’t great and the hostess was clueless. We had a reservation and she couldn’t seem to figure out how to do her job.
Excellent happy hour food choices. Adding a vegetable to the choices would be nice. Wine and beer choices were also very nice. Waitress is very friendly.
Restaurant is always busy (good sign). I've tried to stop in without reservations and was informed of a long wait, so this time in town made a reservation. I was not disappointed. The atmosphere is casual and fun. The décor is interesting and engaging. The space we were seated in seemed in very close proximity those around us, yet we did not feel we were inadvertently including anyone else in our conversation, so it remained open and enjoyable.
I will say the drinks were very creative, but too busy for my taste. Next time I visit (and there will be a next time) I will likely not order off the drink menu, but rather ask for exactly what suits me.
The Crispy Calamari appetizer was very good. Nice light breading on the Calamari and both garlic aioli and Thai chili sauces complemented the dish excellently.
My guest's meal was the Steak Frites, which is a New York strip steak with fries. Sounds very simple, but the flavors were complex. On sight I thought the meat undercooked to my preference, as I thought the rarity would bear on texture, which is important as well... Then she suggested I sample it... Wow! The steak was prepared perfectly pink medium rare and tender with a garlic seasoned sauce that bursting with magical flavor!
My meal was the Beef Bourguignon, which is braised short ribs and root vegetables. Let me rewind and say that the presentation and aroma of both of these meals was wonderful... but the flavors were (I'll use this term again) magical! The beef short ribs were exquisitely flavorful and the meat just melted 'like butter'. There were other nice things in there somewhere too, but I cannot get past expressing how great they cook meat.
After dinner at Mikette Bistro, my guest and I, who had travelled together to Ann Arbor for work, vow to return on future visits and sample as much of this menu as we can.... The quality of presentation, texture, and flavor of the entrée's truly made this and exceptional experience for us both.
Quiet restaurant with potential, but as it stands, it is fine-dining prices with beer pub service.
Always a delight, Our server was well informed about menu and offerred good advice. Dinner was well prepared.
