sushi | ceviche | waygu steak | tapas | full eclectic bar | happy hour | outdoor dinning
MiKaza offers a unique mix that centers on sushi, yakitori, ceviche, alongside traditional Peruvian meat dishes offered in an Izakaya ‘tapas’ style. Guests will enjoy a selection of specialty cocktails featuring Japanese Whiskey and Pisco, along with Japanese and Peruvian craft beers. Happy Hour at MiKaza is one of DTLA’s most fun and exciting locations to explore. Just a stone’s throw away from the Arts District, and in the Historic Core, MiKaza is in the center of today's DTLA activity. And yes, there is lots of patio seating! Nestled in the Spring Arcade Building, the expansive outdoor seating area will be one of the largest in DTLA and hosts one of DTLA’s most popular murals, created by world renowned artist Robert Vargas.

We went on a Saturday night to celebrate out anniversary. What a disappointment, we got 2 rolls and causita sampler and it took over an hour and a half to get anything. The only things I could say was the drinks were good. We got the Lomo Saltado before the sushi. What a disaster! The table next to us just got up and left because they never got the food and they were there before us. The funny part was the guy who got to the restaurant after us got his caustias and another appetizer before us. We just ate the lomo and then left.
This was our second time at Mikaza after being thoroughly impressed our first outing but man something was off. The service was terrible. We had a party of seven and everyone was served at a different time over a 2 and a half hour period. The birthday girl was kept waiting 2 hours for her sushi. Our server told us that there are only 4 sushi chefs... that should be more than adequate to service the 50 or so people for dinner. I watched as the substantial serving staff ran around haphazardly delivering dishes in a seemingly random order to guests. Get it together, there is obviously something broken with your staff communication. It was frustrating to sit and watch our table’s steak get cold waiting while your sushi chefs moved at a snails pace.
all about the fusion! amazing! Food quality is great, taste - sensational. everything we ordered was delightful
Great sushi and great vibe. The Peruvian influences really pair well with traditional Japanese style.
I am looking forward to going back!
It’s a winner!
The food was good, the service was poor as well as the drinks, over price for a not so well experience during this pandemic, a lot of cigarette smells around
Grilled octopus is so good, so does the volcano
Very good food and always a great experience. Highly recommend this restaurant, hands down one of my favorites
The service was good to average. The night that I had went - there were issues with timely food service due to unforeseen circumstances. Our waiter was very nice, he kept us up to date with what was happening and what was happening in the kitchen. It is not a great place for traditional sushi but does have good fusion type dishes. For the price, I would say that there are better choices but if you're really curious about japanese-peruvian fusion type of cuisine - it is probably worth a try. I would suggest going for early dinner to avoid the potential chaos during the later night hours.
It was extremely loud. We were unable to have one word of conversation. It felt more of a bar feeling than dinner with music.
Incredible food! Location is a bit dystopian on a weeknight - the downtown arcade location would normally be buzzing and full of energy, but with COVID, it’s a bit dreary. However the service was excellent and the food and drinks were excellent. The Entrana Buns are mind-blowing, and the sushi is extremely fresh and tasty. Who knew pisco, carne, sake, and sushi went together so well!
Food was amazing, owner was very gracious and hospitable. Overall I would totally recommend this place to my friends!
The service was amazing! Very attentive server and bussers. They knew the menu and what to recommend. The owner was very friendly and asked for feedback. He shared live music video performances with us. Definitely returning when they have live music!
The Operating Partner Wayne was great he had excellent recommendations and definitely sold the place to us, a skill that I feel is rarely used now a days and I can appreciate that. Also the service was on top of it. For a place that’s opened up for only 3 weeks, they’ve really handled business the way businesses should during this time of Covid. The live music was great as well, I would just say maybe turn the music down just a tad bit, because it’s hard to hear yourself when you’re sat right next to them. Other than that we tried over 15 different items and all were great and nailed it.
Enjoyed the good food and was able to talk which was good..
Sushi was subpar and the servers were not communicating. We asked for water no ice and on three separate occasions from different servers they brought us eight waters with ice lol. We waited for our drinks forever. The best thing about the restaurant was the blowtorch. 😫😫
Everything was amazing. The lomo soltado was out of this world, best I ever had and the Halibut Taritado Carpaccio was equally amazing. You can't go wrong with anything you get. From drinks to food, hands down you are in for a treat.
They're only two weeks old but the big problem is they're trying to be too many things.
Food, food presentation, staff and service are great!
But they had a tuneless dj playing music way too loud and she occasionally did her own rapping with some awful audio f/x which may it sounds like she was screeching and yelling. Plus noise on the street from firetrucks to loud motorcycles created an unpleasant environment.
As it stands currently, the outdoor doesn't have any ambience. But once indoor seating opens up, it looks like it would be much better. This is not a good date spot while dining outside.
I really want to go back for the food though but not until the music part gets sorted. I hope they work that out soon.
Everything we ordered was delicious! I had a great experience from the moment I was seated. I look forward to having more friends enjoy this hidden gem with me.
Even though the food is tasty and the presentation was nice the amount of fish they put in the sushi or the actual expensive ingredients in a dish we’re borderline downright cheap
The dinning experience at Mikaza was incredible. The Mikaza team is friendly and knowledgeable about all their dishes and happy all the time. So happy to find a sushi place so near by and get quality fish and great ambiance as well.I’ve taken 3 friends on different occasions and got great reviews from each one. My advise , make a reservation
Came on a Wednesday. It smelled really badly of trash from the homeless people pulling bags of trash out of the garbage on the street. Decided not to stay very long but ordered a couple of yakitori items and a couple of beers to be polite.
Chicken yakitori essentially came out well seasoned but raw. Vegetable yakitori was uneventful. However, during our meal, a few homeless people came to say hello and ask for change as we were sitting on the edge of their "patio."
Service seemed a little inexperienced. Wouldn't go again.
Although they just opened, Wayne and team (yes we are on a first name basis with the owner now) are superb. Great service, food is INSANE and cocktails great too. Any little kinks will be worked out in time. We truly had no idea they had only been open a week. Can't wait to go back.
Best nikkei food in town very friendly staff and the drinks are amazing had the tiradito de lenguado con yuyo excellent i totally recommend it and las Conchitas a la parmesana are a must had a great time will be back pretty soon
Great food and ambience. Peruvian Nikkei concept is one of a kind and only one in This area. Loved the drinks too and live music.
This new place have potential but the service was bad. We did not got food for 2 hours. We ordered 4 plates only got 1 and cold. The drinks were really good.
