BRINGIN' THE BEACH TO DENVER! Uniquely named from Victorian-era slang meaning “properly-done,” Bang Up to the Elephant! serves *authentically inauthentic* “Calypso” cuisine with clean, fresh ingredients and no-joke spices and heat. Just like the vibrant menus, the restaurant’s sultry interior passionately reunites the outdoors indoor, like long-lost love-frisky dolphins.

Land-locked Denver islanders can find escape with freshly cracked coconut cocktails and festive beach-shack-inspired foods ...all within a tropical postcard moment. The unusual setting reflects the different approaches found in the restaurant’s scratch-made offerings; vegetarians, omnivores, vegans, and fruitarians will feel equally delighted by the unexpected and island-inspired options. It’s as if the entire restaurant just landed from an unknown alternate-dimension, bringing technicolor palm-trees swinging to crooning bird-song.

Bang Up to the Elephant! is a not-to-miss.

We were greeted by a lackluster host waited quite a long time for our food which taste very very Bland and what's cold.. our server was very pleasant and she took care of us as much as she could because there weren't too many people on the floor as waitresses and waiters so this might have had to do with why we received our cold entrees... drinks for mediocre and I could taste the mix in My Bloody Mary😑

BUTTE has a very cool vibe, lots of plants, fun decor inside. Our server/service was good, but the food was pretty disappointing. The seitan wings (which were big chunks) were a fail - the first batch was so rubbery they couldn’t even be cut with a knife. They replaced them, and the second batch was a bit less rubbery, but still not an enjoyable texture. Mack the knife roti had nice curry flavor, but was mostly rice with a few chickpeas/bits of tofu, and the potatoes in it were very unevenly cooked, about 1/2 were underdone. The plantain/tortilla chips were completely bland, no salt, no seasoning, and cold. If they aren’t seasoned, they should at least be served warm! The sauces with them were fairly one note in flavor. Drinks were fine, although a lot of them looked to be on the sweet side, so I had a hard time finding anything of interest. Curry waffle fries were probably the high point of the meal, if there was one. The fries were crunchy and hard, more like chips, although that made them hold up better to the curry sauces on them. But the fries without sauce were too crunchy, so we found ourselves rubbing the sauce from one chip onto another to try to soften them up. All in all, we felt a bit let down with the meal, and probably won’t be back.

We were very disappointed in our brunch. We had a party of 12 and went here because it claimed to accommodate big parties. The server was rude and didn't take our order after we had been waiting and asked for over 45 minutes (or longer!) Also, the reason we went there was for the coconut cocktails. They didn't have any coconuts.

Came for brunch and loved the atmosphere but man, the service was slow/awful. The girl kept saying it was because it was ‘just her’ that morning but literally it was our table and one other table of two people so...ehhh. Friends all agreed the food was average. Bummer cause the decor is fantastic!

Very casual Caribbean restaurant in Denver. Funky interior definitely designed for late night parties or if you go early could be good with kids as the atmosphere/decor is so different. The eggplant appetizer was really tasty, but it is fried and totally unhealthy. Plantains are fine. I had the Cubano sandwich and it was actually good. The pasta was good as well. It’s all pretty unhealthy and a bit greasy and definitely not fancy. Example, the wine options are red, white, but that’s it - very casual, relatively inexpensive. I would honestly not return, but we were there to see some music playing at a bar around the corner and had a large group so this place could fit us in.

I was super disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I walked in thinking this looked like a really unique and cool experience and walked out knowing I would never go back. It took a server 15 minutes to come over and greet our table and it never got much better from there. The food lacks flavor and again service was poor.

The atmosphere and service was great - a really fun vibe overall. But the food was disappointing. I ordered the coconut French toast and was expecting a coconut crusted bread of some kind. Instead it was a dry, dense, oat/coconut cake with some bananas and plantains on top. I will say the drinks were delicious. We went for brunch but I think the value of this place would be for a fun happy hour.

Hi Erin! Thanks for joining us and contributing great feedback. Our apologies that the French Toast didn't present how you had imagined. You did get it right with what's inside, basically made from our delicious Coconut Bake bread crumbled up and mixed with yummy custard and cast-iron cooked. It is a little dense/crispy -as we want it to be filling & crunchy. But it shouldn't be dry! Sounds we over-cooked! We truly apologize! :( -It's a staff go-to so hopefully you'll give it another go!

Hi there, sorry you didn't love our vegan options. You're correct that a few of our items are fried (deep fried so it's healthier frying), but by no means is everything fried. We really wish you had tried any one of our huge selections of vegan entrees, none of which see the fryer. We're thrilled with the great reception our vegan selections have earned -wish you'd had a similar experience. But, thank you for giving us a go and chiming in on the dishes you did try! Thanks for eating vegan!

The ambiance of the space wwas fantastic! Such a cool space!

The food was bland... we felt like everything needed a bit of salt or seasoning. With no salt or pepper shakers in sight, there was nothing to do about it. We loved that they're trying to do something different with the menu, it just wasn't great food. It took a while to get a drink, but once we did, the drinks were great!

Bland!?!?! What a bummer you felt this way. Not the typical reaction we receive. Usually we hear it's too spicy! We love your palette of steel though, so thanks a bunch for your great feedback! Glad you see we're trying to go out on a limb food-wise! We're always wanting to improve though, so thanks again! FYI, we always have a few salt / pepper shakers available if you ever need them -we'll bring them right over! 🐳

Unfortunately we were the only table dining on there this Monday night... which we think would translate to more attentive service. Our server was very friendly and nice but also not a frequent presence at our table. The food, while really tasty, was inconsistent. Our wings came out ice cold (and we had to track the server down to even notify her,) and the dessert—doughnut balls(?)— had a strange rubbery texture. Drinks were great, the atmosphere is fun (I imagine it would be more fun if there was a lively crowd) but it was just an empty restaurant for us with good enough food and spotty service.

Ya, sometimes an occasional Monday is a bummer, sigh... Regardless, it sound's like we dropped the ball with you and for that, we're truly sorry. Often times servers give extra space on slow nights as the vibe can't help but feel more low-key and casual. Apologies we got it wrong however. We do appreciate the feedback on food and service -and intend to be better for you next time you're in. Be good! :)

Despite being excited about dining here, our experience was one that won’t bring me back.

Unfortunately, when we got there, we were told that brunch had been sold out and that they were only serving the happy hour menu. The host quickly disappeared and continued to ignore us until we called him out. Once seated, we continued to be ignored by the entire staff for 15 minutes, in which time they sat and greeted two other parties, pouring water and engaging with them about the menu. When he finally did return to us, he slammed the water jug down and walked away, no words no nothing. He never came back, so we took our business elsewhere.

This restaurant added an element of fun to our evening. All senses are engaged here! There are tons of visuals to take in, the aromas and taste of the food are unique and delicious, the furniture is not the standard restaurant tables and chairs, and the background music is full of energy. The food and ambiance here is AMAZING, but unfortunately the service has not been the best the last few times I have been here. I went with a large party (15 guests), and at the beginning of service I made it clear to the server that we will be splitting the check and she agreed and had no issues with that request. Unfortunately, the food came out sporadically - with our appetizers arriving after main courses, as well as our drink orders taking up to 20min to come.

At the end of our meal our server told us "she could not keep up with splitting checks", which was frustrating, but being a server myself at one time I understood. All the guests told her what we ordered to help speed up the payment process. After everyone paid, the server came back and told us we still owed $125 - but items that people had told her they paid for were still on the ticket... It was more frustrating that the server did not seem to care because gratuity was already included. I added up all the receipts and the total equaled what we owed, so we were quite confused. I asked for the manager, who gathered up all the receipts to add up. He was gone for at least 30-min, with no communication to us during that time. The manager did comp one of the checks and send free shots, but afterwards he complained to one of the guests that "we got $250 worth of free food", when that was not the case at all. It was a frustrating experience to say the least, because it was a birthday party and we had plans after dinner that we missed due to the time it took to work everything out.

If the server had told us at the beginning we couldn't split the check the guests would have been prepared and this issue would not have arisen, but since she told us it was not a problem we were not expecting to have to work out what we owed and all the confusion to happen.

I highly recommend the food and ambiance here, but they need to work on their service, food/drink times and communication to customers.

Went for Denver Restaurant Week and the three courses choices had a wide range of variety. A fairly new additional to the Cap Hill area and overall was an enjoyable experience. I love the warehouse feel and different styled bathrooms. The down side was uncomfortable seating all chairs and benches were hard wood along with the staffing. It seemed to me our server had a lot of his hands but managed the stress well, my concern was that I saw lots of staff members cleaning tables or standing around while my server(maybe the only one?) was working hard. May need some work. Worth going once most likely wont return.

My boyfriend and I came here for restaurant week and we had a really positive experience! The restaurant itself is so funky and unique and we loved it. The set menu had some tasty options to choose from and we really enjoyed our dishes. We got the curry fries and the scotch bonnet wings. The curry fries were really good. If you don’t love curry you won’t like them but we loved them! The wings were very spicy and had lots of flavor. For our main courses we got the shark bake and the chow mein. We both liked the chow mein more but I’m really glad we tried the shark! The dessert was the only thing I wouldn’t recommend. It was supposed to be a cheesecake but I’m not really sure what happened with it. It was melted and they said it was a deconstructed cheesecake which I give them points for creativity but it wasn’t the best. Lastly, I can say hands down one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had was the “heavy wet flummit” from here! Overall it was a really fun date night and we will 100% be back!
