Michael's Tavern & Steakhouse
4653 S. Straits Highway, Indian River, MI, 49749.
Best steak in the area! Such a friendly staff and it is one of our favorite spots to go!
We have eaten here numerous times and have never been disappointed . This Valentine's Day meal was delicious and an outstanding value.
Great Valentines Day atmosphere; 4-course dinner was fantastic.
The food was perfectly cooked, the wait staff is very good and efficient and the restaurant itself is beautiful inside, very warm and comfortable.
We had the Valentine Special well worth the money. We would go back on special events.
Our dinner experience was very good but I wasn't expecting bench seating and no place to hang a coat. It's difficult to find a spot for bulky winter coats, especially if you do not even have a chair to hang it on. Other than that food was excellent and service was very good.
Four were in our group. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. Our waitress was great. We'll be going back!
We have always had a great experience at Michaels. Will definitely be back.
Very good food and excellent service.
Do not waste your money at this greedy restaurant. I understand high end food and this place is a joke. For 29 dollars you get a 14 oz steak and nothing else! If you want potato that is 8 dollars more and if you want a vegetable that is another 7. Everything is al la carte' and way over priced. The steak was delicious, but 29 dollars for just the meat good. Do not order the whitefish or the crab(tuna) cakes. The whitefish has no flavor and the crab cakes taste like bumblebee tuna. Save your time and money and eat anywhere else in Indian River.
Fabulous restaurant. Excellent service. Warm atmosphere. Great food! We will definitely be back.
Great food... Maggie is AWESOME! Even had a server that waited on us before that came over to say hello (Emma)!
Excellent overall. Only issue was with a steak being a bit over done. This was corrected in short order.
My wife went here for our 3rd Wedding anniversary and we couldn't have been more please!! The food, service, and attention to detail was over the top! Not only was the food amazing, we were given a free dessert in celebration of our anniversary, made it a night to remember! We will definitely will be back!
Great to have a nice restaurant in Indian River! Michaels was great. The steak I ordered and whitefish my wife ordered both were cooked perfectly, and prices were very reasonable for the quality received. Hope to see michaels stay here for years to come.
Our dining experience was wonderful! From terrific food and drinks to the fabulous table location to outstanding service, we could not have asked for a better evening!
We also got a visit from the owner/chef, Michael and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the area and highly recommend it. Wonderful fine dining is a lovely relaxed setting!
Was recommended by a friend and so happy we finally decided to visit.
Comfortable, friendly and professional service. This location has come back to life like never before.
Absolutely one of my most favourite restaurants. Service was pretty quick. The food was amazing and when there was an issue it was resolved right away
They even brought free deep-fried Oreos for the birthday boy.
Highly highly recommend this restaurant
The food was good, the service was acceptable, however with the price of the a la carte steak menu I would have expected white table cloths, and proper table settings, instead of bare tables. The server should not ask "would you like a clean fork?" Just bring one. We spent $85.00 on dinner for two, no cocktails, no appetizers, no dessert.
Service was great. Eric was very attentive and informative. Food was great. Highly recommend the cauliflower appetizer. Met the owners, Michael and Maggie. You must try this restaurant. 5 stars!
We really enjoyed celebrating a friends birthday at Michaels. Many of us loved the white fish and the steaks were excellent too. It’s no doubt succeeding with great food and service. We will be back.
My caesar salad had too much dressing on it, and my pork chop was overcooked. Having said that, the recipes were tasty; the salad dressing was quite nice, and the pork chop had a nice rub on it. But both dishes were overshadowed by the fact that they were poorly prepared. My wife liked her beet salad, but the amount of pesto sauce on her hangar steak was overwhelming, thereby diminishing the meal. We dined on Labor Day eve, and I suspect that some of the kitchen staff had already departed for the summer. We will definitely give this restaurant another try. It feels like it has a lot of promise, and I'd like to see if our experience was an aberration. Finally, the dining area is quite noisy. It seats many large groups, and mostly hard surfaces (wood). Dining in the bar area may be quieter.
Becoming our favorite restaurant up north!
Eric recommended the cauliflower appetizer & it was delicious. Steaks were excellent & fried oreo dessert w/ cherry sauce was AMAZING!
Micheal’s is awesome! Worth the drive from Petoskey, Cheboygan, Gaylord or anywhere. It won’t be long before people start talking about Michael’s as one of the premiere destination dining experiences in Northern Michigan.
This was one of the best steaks I've ever had. I've been to 6 or 7 of the "top 10 independent steakhouses in America" according to airline magazines. This was as good or better than an of them for 1/2 the price. Highly recommend if you want high end, delicious melt in your mouth steak (get the Ribeye).
Outstanding food! Really enjoyed the filet and the white fish. We will be back!!
Great spot in Indian River. Unique , fitting decor and ambiance. Food and service were also great.
The food and decor are truly excellent. We sat outside on a lovely late summer evening. The patio is not heated but happened to be comfortable for a 7pm dinner time. The building has a lot of log cabin charm. We had tasty empañadas for an appetizer. We had a petit fillet and the spare ribs, and also asparagus and the baked potato. Everything was excellent. The steak was sous vide and perfect to medium rare. It had one of the best sears I have had in a long time. The ribs were delectable (they're a boneless cut of very soft 72 hour rib meat on mashed potatoes and carrots - for perfection could have had more carrot and less potato). We did not save room for dessert sadly.
The service is not up to the par of the food. It's too casual and Applebee's like, too much dumping plates on the table, etc. - and the wait staff doesn't seem to really appreciate the food or foodies. I don't think it's enough to not recommend the restaurant, but given how good the food is, it could use work because it takes away from the quality of the experience.
Salmon and short rib were nicely prepared. Prices are a bit high for the size of portion. Special salad-Caprese was nice, Caesar appeared to be mostly iceberg type lettuce with some romaine-very sour dressing. Very lovely facility, but not sure we will go back because of the prices. $36. Is a lot for a small piece of short rib on tasteless mashed potato.
Michael’s is a wonderful place for any occasion. Appetizer, salads, entrees and drinks were all excellent. Very fresh veggies, whitefish that melts in your mouth, terrific empanada appetizer—just a great dining experience. Our server was very knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. All in all, a fabulous night!
Outstanding meal ! We will be back again soon!! Really enjoyed the steaks
Great dinner with my son and husband!
Try the blue cheese encrusted steak. Yum!
Charged extra for EVERYTHING - even $2 for “on the rocks” and an extra $2 to salt the rim on a margarita. At those prices, a steak should come with something. Maybe choice of soup or salad. Asparagus featured as a side & in prep yet they were out of asparagus (things happen). No salad forks - just a clunky dinner fork to use (at those prices) That being said, what we had was good. Want to try the bistro menu.
Food was good but a bit pricey.
Steak was cooked perfect!
Fried cauliflower Great
Perfectly cooked steak
love the king crab
We have eaten at michael’s 6 times now, and every time the food is amazing! The portions could be a little bigger. But overall our favorite restaurant in Northern Michigan!
We all had the filet and they were cooked to perfection. The sides were ample, almost enough for two to share. Our server, the charming Miss Grace, did an excellent job of taking care of our needs and the busstaff kept the table clear or any unneeded items. Definitely will return.
