Michael's St. Augustine
Had reservations for 8:30. Didn't get seated until a little after 9. Server took 10 minutes before coming over to table. Ordered lobster civeche, it was 4 small pieces of lobster on a bed of lettuce. Horrible presentation. Steak did not come out until 10:30! Overall i think this place would be nice, but the excuse that it was a busy night and the kitchen was slammed doesn't align with such a highly recommended place. Part of being a 5 start restaurant means you know how to handle the busy times and make adjustments.
We had a reservation for 2 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy but we were still sat in 15 minutes. The host and wait staff were friendly. The decor was very nice and unique.
The time to receive food took over an hour from appetizers to main course for a Vegetarian meal and an undercooked steak. Total time was close to a 3 hour meal for two people, no alcohol or dessert, The appetizer peppers were undercooked too. The flavor was average, if that.
For the price and the wait, I do not recommend.
Reservations were 30 minutes late, food took over an hour to be delivered, just to find out that what was orders was “not up to quality control” so we had to order something else. Which was promptly “cooked” in like four minutes, haha.
Could be a good place, just wasn’t in the cards for my wife or I that night, oh well!
This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in St Augustine. The food was of the highest quality and attention is really paid to detail. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable . It’s slightly pricey, but worth every penny.
We enjoyed the chef experience. Think next time we order from menu. Food was very good but too little amounts. Certainly will come back with friends.
I liked the restaurant when it was the tasting room the food was incredible and there was a small band and the ambience was great you felt at home with home cooking. After the flood and the new decor is nothing special and the food was not bad but I had a lot better before.
Difficulty finding the place and nearby parking, and one minor glitch in our drink order, were the only negatives in an otherwise great dining experience. We will definitely go back.
Food was excellent portions where a bit small but still good
Great food and great service. We went there for our Anniversary and were very happy.
Amazing food, amazing service. No doubt my restaurant when visiting st augustine. Highly recommended.
My husband and I came here for my 50th birthday. It was our first time eating here. From the moment we walked in they seemed understaffed and it took a bit to get seated even though we had a reservation. Our server was attentive and helpful. I thought the food for the price was just fair. My steak was over cooked and the creamed greens were odd. The salmon was nice though. There was no bread served at any time during the meal. I think overall I will look for other restaurants to celebrate special occasions.
We arrived about 45 minutes early for our reservation and there were empty tables inside the restaurant but the hostess said that we had to wait to be seated. When it was time for our reservation the hostess did not even approach us to let us know that our table was ready instead we had to remind her that we were waiting. Once seated we did not get a proper server instead we had one of the hostesses as our server. Our server did not pay much attention to us, did not explain the menu and had to ask if we wanted a dish of olives , which they serve at every table, while we waited. We ordered steaks which I thought was the specialty of the restaurant but Food was just okay. The price of entrees was high and were a la carte.
The place was too noisy and had no ambiance. There was no waiting area that people were actually standing by the front door waiting for their table or reservation . Ironically while people were standing by the door waiting there were empty tables in the room.
Overall I do not recommend this restaurant for the food experience, value and service.
The new menu is exquisite! Decor is very nice and service excellent as always.
Summer was a very pleasant, knowledgeable, and attentive waitress. The food was excellent and the atmosphere lively! A great experience for celebrating any occasion!
Too noisy. Unpleasant for small groups. We had a good waiter but could not hear him when he tried to answer our menu questions. Men wearing tee shirts and backwards baseball caps don’t seem to meet your suggested dress standards.
Came for the Denver steak but it was unavailable that night and that was disappointing. Ordered the Kansas City Strip instead and it was ridiculously over salted.
The creamed greens and garlic was very disappointing. Last time it was creamed spinach which was very good. The mixed greens were tough, under cooked? And very difficult to eat.
The Iberian board was very good.
Wonderful food, wine list and service. Both of the steaks we had were cooked perfectly and delicious. Appetizers and sides were delicious as well. Our server was very knowledgeable and professional. Excellent wine list with very reasonable pricing for some hard to find wines.
Our server was amazing. I can't say anything but good things about her. Our overall food experience, however, was very lacking. They were out of several menu items, which made both of us get something that was not our first choice. For our convenience, they comped the dessert we shared, which was nice of them. The server was apologetic, but neither the manager, nor the chef (both of whom stopped at our table to say hi) apologized at all. They didn't acknowledge the issue whatsoever. For the price they charge, I would expect the leadership service to be on point. As a GM of a restaurant for several years in the past, I understand COMPLETELY running out of things. I just don't understand a lack of management involvement. Especially while the restaurant was not at all busy. The hostess was a little cold as well. Honestly, had the manager made an attempt to at least apologize, the night would have earned about 4.5 stars. The server, again, gets 5 stars from me.
One of the finest meals I've ever had. The chef's 3-course selection was inspired. Can't recommend Michael's enough.
Excellent food, sophisticated surroundings, wonderful service. Top notch!
Our favorite restaurant. Always pleasant and very good!
Great food and service. Knew it was our anniversary. Complimentary champagne. Very helpful waiter. Parking a challenge in old downtown St. Augustine.
steak was chewy macaroni and cheese dry ,mushrooms and wine were great
Way over priced for the value of the ambiance, the quality of the food and the service. The Denver Steak in particular was the quality of a tough Flank Steak. One of the sides ordered with the steak was never delivered. Had to request bread with the initial wine service. Very disappointed as a birthday celebration!
The filet mignot is delicious and the atmosphere was great. A little disappointed in the value. The other similar restaurants in downtown St. Augustine offer the same quality food, but come with sides unlike Michael's. Michael's charges about $10 per side and the options aren't great. They also don't serve bread while waiting for your food, which is a bit odd. Overall, the food was overpriced for the small portions. Unfortunately, my husband left hungry which never happens. I would recommend Michael's for drinks and desserts instead of dinner.
Spectacular, top notch, food and service were on point. Flavors were absolutely amazing! Best in Saint Augustine
Lobster gnocchi was delicious and the wine list was very extensive, lots to choose from. Would love to eat there again.
Our anniversary dinner!! Loved it. Our server Erica was excellent and even helpful in recommending places to hit up while we were in town.
The restaurant was understaffed. The steak was mediocre at best especially for the money. It is extremely noisy.
Highly recommend! The food was amazing! Service was top notch. Celebrated my daughter’s 18th birthday and the gave her a delicious piece of tres leche cake for free without us even asking or announcing it was her birthday. They had just asked when I made the reservation if we were celebrating anything. Everyone from the owners mother who was hosting to all the of the waiters told her happy birthday. Wonderful evening and right in historic downtown.
Horrible dining experience. Food tasted old and everything was over cooked.
This place was the perfect romantic spot for our second year anniversary. We got complimentary champagne at the beginning of the meal. The hostess and the server were both cordial, friendly but not over bearing. The restaurant itself is classy with beautiful decor. But the star of the show is definitely the food. We got the lobster gnocchi and the steak and fries with chimichurri for our main dish, both of which were beautifully plated and tasted in par with any high end European restaurant. We had the key lime pie cheesecake for dessert which was the perfect dish to finish our wonderful meal. And they also have an impeccable wine list.
Incredibly disappointed in the service. We were really looking forward to having a nice dinner at Michaels, ordered a bottle of Faust, and filets. The plantain bacon appetizer was good. I ordered my filet medium to medium well, when it came out it was very rare. I am not the type of person to complain or send food back, but it was just too rare. The server did not come back for a while, and when I could get her attention she looked at me as if to say, "what?". I said that my steak was undercooked, I actually apologized to her....and she said "cook it more?" and took my plate. About 10 minutes later, she put the plate down on the table and walked away. I cut the steak, and it was still rare. She came back about 10-15 mins later and said "are you done?". At that point, I asked to talk to a manager...and someone came over ended up taking the charge for my uneaten filet off my bill, but overall just a disappointing experience with such a rude server.
Amazing food, service, and ambiance. We love this place and feel excited every time we go. The menu is always changing but the food is constantly delicious no matter if it’s an appetizer or an entree!
We loved this place! Just felt a little rushed by server, but she was nice, efficient and courteous!
We were treated like royalty. Bozard provided us with a Date Night. We had a private cozy table in the corner, a waiter who was so attentive and informative, a chefs tasting menu that already has us planning our next dinner there. The accompanying wines were perfectly paired ( the wine list is extensive).
Have been a few times now; Michaels is always a joy. They have changed the menu to more entrees focused and less tapas style, but the appetizers, salads and "starters" are excellent and worth sharing. This most recent visit I had the aged NY strip. Now, we raise our own beef (hobby farm) and I usually don't order beef at restaurants because I usually cook it as good or better. However, the dry aged beef was amazing and worth the high price. They have an awesome wine menu, service staff have always been wonderful.
We had a very nice date night at Michael's Tasting Room. It had been a while since we had been there and found some new menu items but the same great service and great food. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
We have dined at Michael’s many times and always have had a good experience. My only complaint this time would be with the beet salad. The beets were sparse at best. It should of been called a salad with a beet garnish. Everything else was wonderful.
We chose to eat at Michael's based on a recommendation from our travel agent AND it was close to the Cathedral of St. Augustine where we planned to attend a concert by the St. Augustine Music Festival.
The food was reasonably good, but it was certainly not outstanding. It is a lovely restaurant.
We were put off by our waiter basically encouraging us to order the most expensive items on the menu. However, after chatting with him, he became friendlier and not so aggressive.
It was ladies monthly night out. We all enjoyed our wine. We ordered the asparagus caesar salad, empanadas and the provolone cheese with sun dried tomatoes. We loved the ambience! We ended the night with pineapple tres leches cake topped with merengue which I’m still dreaming about!
